That article doesnt mention Arriva workings on 685 to Carlisle as passing to Go-Ahead. Mistake, or is the 685 operated from elsewhere?

That article doesnt mention Arriva workings on 685 to Carlisle as passing to Go-Ahead. Mistake, or is the 685 operated from elsewhere? It does mention the 685 quote "Arriva will retain the 685 Newcastle to Carlisle route, but it will transfer the operating base from Hexham to Newcastle."

On that note, it doesn't actually mention the 602 Hexham-Newcastle, which competes with many GNE routes at present. I'd expect that to be the key route they'd want.

Go-Ahead are effectively the winners here. They launched competitive services from Newcastle to Blyth then bought out independent Northumbria at Ashington. They are handing these over to Arriva, who were the dominant operator in the area, in exchange for Hexham, which Arriva are losing as a result.
I would like to see Arriva give up their share of route 685. Handing it to Stagecoach Newcastle would make it all Stagecoach. Handing it to Go-Ahead would simplify operations in Hexham.

This has now been given the go-ahead (ahem!) and will be effective from 28/03/10.
