An apprentice mechanic is lucky to be alive after he escaped from beneath a 14 tonne bus which fell on his head as he was attempting to repair it. He was examining the vehicle when part of the bus's air suspension system failed and the single decker bus fell on him. Other worker rushed to help him, tipping the bus so he could wriggle free.
He needed 20 stitches and doctors inserted a metal plate into his forehead and anther one to straighten his nose. It is believed he will make a full recovery.
Luckily the rubber cylinder of compressed air which split and caused the accident did not completely deflate and bounced back up which provided a split second for him to avoid more serious injury.
Health and Safety officials are investigating the accident which happened last Monday morning. Nobody at Stagecoach was available for comment.
The article does say just where this happened except to say he was initially treated at Barnsley Hospital before being transferred to Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital.
