I've always said the situation at the station is ridiculous. The number of times that even the freecitybus cant get round cos the taxis are right up to the juction and there's more of them or a delivery truck parked on the yellows on the other side completely blocking the road. Why not use the area outside the exit at the station for the car parks by wetherspoons and mcdonalds for taxis and clear them away from the bus station?

The situation on Boar Lane is the worst with taxis using the right turn lane onto New Station Street as an extension to the taxi rank. This causes delays to services such as the 95

Does he mean outside the train station? If so, I can't see Metro supporting this idea. Glad its been mentioned though because it is causing some serious disruption its been worse than the Christmas rush in recent days.

The major problems started when Leeds City Council allowed for a significant increase (can't remember by how much) in taxi licences awarded last year. This policy should really have been blocked by those with brains so clearly nobody with authority in the licensing department knows what they're doing. The soloution (although expensive) would be to pay compensation to taxi drivers and de-licence at least half of the current taxi's. Also, how about First and Arriva get together and sue Streamline, City Cabs plus all the other black n White taxi firms for lost revenue caused by taxi disruption, after all when a bus is in a jam it runs late throughout it's route so can't take it's full potential number of passengers. These lost passengers will either return home or not go into Leeds and do something locally.

Wouldn't it be the council they would need to sue as they awarded the licenses? From what I saw last week some buses didn't run at all and some were running short - a 757 was only going to the Airport rather than Otley. It really needs someone from the council or Metro to see for themselves how bad it is

Sorry folks but this thread title was like a red rag to a bull when I saw it as Taxi's (and private hires, although I acknowledge they are not the culprits in this case) are the biggest pain in Leeds and I for one wouldn't miss them if every single one of 'em went!
I was pleased on Tuesday when I got my point across to the moron who blocked the entrance to New Briggate whilst his 'buddies' blocked the 49/50/56 stops further up the Headrow.
The facts are there are far too many and it's alright the YEP saying it would be harsh to trim numbers of those drivers struggling to make a living, I'm sorry but in the real world where supply is far exceeding demand then cuts have to be made as in any other business.

The situation was a lot better today with a combination of a traffic officer and council parking warden stood at the junction of the Headrow & Briggate telling taxis to move on if they were causing an obstruction. ;D

Its not just a Leeds problem here in Sheffield we have the same problem as the drivers insist on coming out to work even though they know that passangers are scrarce , we have specific problems around the railway station as well , when certain London trains are due in the taxi come out and que round blocking both the station entrance and the general highway. Enforcement officers seem reluctant to issue tickets when an obvious obstruction is been committed
