I heard a rumour off a HJC driver today that Transdev are wanting to take over First Halifax, I don't know if it is true or not but it all makes sense really considering the amount of services First are cutting or wanting to cut in the Halifax area.

If that is true will First transfer all the old and non standard buses coming up for withdrawal to Halifax from the other depots in West Yorkshire and exchanged them with newer buses in time for the transfer to Transdev just like Stagecoach did when they sold their Burnley and East Lancs operation to Transdev then Blazefield in 2002? Anyway one good thing that may come out of this could be a regular service between Keighley and Halifax

I thought it was a merger between the 2 rather than a takeover? Although I'm not sure what difference it would make anyway....

I heard that Halifax rumour go round K&D depot about a month or two back, but heard it was a (malicious!) rumour started by a guy not interested in transport and generally unreliable and a gossip merchant at the best of times. We were informed of a planned merger between the two companies about 6 weeks ago, but there has been little said on the subject since so don't know what the situation there is except the merger was supposed to be a 50/50 deal.

On the subject of the 502, whilst it is good that TJ Walsh provide a 504 connecting in/out of the 697 at Denholme, wouldn't it be a better idea to retime it and extend it to Cullingworth to connect with the 727/729 as well as the 696/697? Or just run it through to Keighley?

Is the 504 operated commercially or contracted by Metro? Id guess by extending the route it would require an extra vehicle which could make the route unprofitable

It is partly funded by Metro because the two Solo's they got, I think Metro paid half for them especially for 504 and local Elland routes.

have been hearing rumours about Transdev and Halifax for some time and nothing has come of them yet

Although a rumour, It would make sense for Transdev to want First Halifax operations as Halifax is squezed between Transdev operations in Keighley and Burnley, thus Halifax would give Transdev a much bigger operating area. Bearing in mind that the operating area in Harrogate is connected to Keighley and districts operating area, admitedly through the subsidised x59, and the York operating area is connected to the Harrogate operating area through the x54, it will make Transdev's operation in the North look massive if the rumour is true.

I can see how Transdev might be wanting the routes operating from Todmorden depot, as the links to Burnley and Keighley would conveniently fit into their existing operations with Burnley & Pendle plus Keighley and district. Not too sure though, that First would want to give up the 589-594 routes which I believe are profitable services and maybe Transdev should be cautious in running into Greater Manchester from this direction. Any further news from members on this interesting news?

Transdev will never buy HJC as the management there would not intend on selling up to large companies.

I can see where the irony is as HJC sold up to Centrebus (someone bigger) with Transdev eventually buying these ex HJC operations of sorts.

It is a little strange to say Bradford though as they are really only a minor operator in Bradford, they would have been better listing this as the airport. I assume this is the slip Deerfield was referring to. I don't think there is a First Bradford takeover imminent.
