For anyone like me who is strangely fascinated by the over-excited announcements guy on the class 333 Airedale and Wharfedale trains (Welcome! To the Bradford Forrrrster Squaaaare Train, don't forget your belongings even though you've only just boarded etc), a fairly amusing website I might suggest is youtube.com/watch?v=uyFLyIBmJxs or also myspace.com/tpeing - fancy a remix of some 90s dance anthems with next station annoucements? Nice to know its not just me who finds that voiceover guy amusing! Here come the men in the white coats to collect me...

That is hilarious! I just wish someone would have told the berk that the first r in the Forster of Bradford forster Square is silent! That really bugs me!

In their favour, they are quick, quiet and smooth, but i'm not a big fan.
They seem unreliable (maybe due to the fact that they operate 99.9% of services locally in my area and the occasional diesel never seems to fail), when they fail they seem to pass the fault on to the rescue unit and for me they are very bland with no character.
Plus, as one conductor i spoke to said, at least with a class 144, if something stops working, you just batter it with a hammer and it works again.

They are certainly very quick, quiet and smooth. One of their main problems though is that they are more suited for express work (like their cousins the class 332s on Heathrow Express) rather than local stopping services. As I once read on another forum, the 333s are rather like sending a space shuttle out to do a milk round. Possibly the fact they aren't best suited to urban routes with stops every few minutes results in breakdowns.
They may not be as characteristic as, say, a Pacer(!) but from an average passengers point of view they are impressive fast units. I certainly used to enjoy using them to and from Guiseley each day, especially with a non-stop 12-minute journey compared to well over an hour by bus!

Northern have started to repaint the 333's, I saw one of them at Nevile hill i think it was 333012, its in red and looks better than the livery used on the 321's. The new livery is like the old livery but with out the silver N.

I've only seen photos so far, and haven't been too impressed... maybe I will like it better once I have seen it in the flesh?!
The reason it is still the same red is because of the paint warranty on these vehicles. Therefore blue sweeping vinyls with Northern logos and white doors (why not yellow which looked better?) have been applied.
