The ALX400s 30915-30921 W-KBT batch appear to be ok, it's just the W-CWR's that have the noise.

I disagree, yes at first a president is slower than a alx 400, however they gain more power than an alx 400 on hills and match them on flat once beyond 1st gear. The gearbox make them a steady performer rather than a quick from the start if you know what I mean.

The major problem with the Alx 400 b7s is the bodywork. The President b7s are more powerful than the Alx 400 b7s due to lighter bodywork, and better engine layout. The Alx 400 bodywork looks to be far to bulky and heavy, thus why they can't cope with hills. The drive train on the Presidents and ALX400s are different also which is probably more to do with differences in acceleration etc.

If you like water ingress, dodgy, rattling, leaking, 'bitty' (to use a nice word) bodywork, weak structure, dead electrics, non-existent heating and a shaky ride, then the ALX400 is for you.
Combined with an bog-standard early B7TL chassis, you can probably imagine on what wonderful buses these are.

i like the b7tl alx400 in leeds when there where new introduced to leeds, i think these would work in huddersfield for the holmfirth connection, as a low floor for the step buses at huddersfield

Saw W702 in halifax yesterday on locals (forget what route), certainly was not on a service from Hudds!
