Hi Guys, After watching last night's episode of Doctor Who, which featured a Bristiol VR, I was wondering when the last VRs were withdrawn from the West Riding / Yorkshire Buses fleet? The picture below says it was taken during 1997, and I don't seem to remember any in the fleet after this time, but I thought somebody else on here would have a better idea. Thanks, Jim. farm3.static.flickr.com/2251/2257365251_4185c6e102.jpg?v=0

I think it was taken before1993 as I have the Yorkshire bus handbook for that year which does not list the bus in the photograph 860 as being in service although around 20 VRs are still listed in service. Personally I do not recall seeing any VRs of any of the main operaters in service in Bradford after 1992. The West Riding/Yorkshire Woollen ones were probably kept on local/and or school duties after 1992. I remerber Arriva stickers being put on West Riding group buses in1996/97 do not recall seeing them on VRs so I think they must all gone between 1994-1995

That photo is more like 1987 than 1997, the fact that it carries 'West Riding Wakefield' fleetnames means it is the earlier part of that era. It'll probably be slightly later than 1987 though as it carries the current Metro logo.
The last VRTs had all gone by 1995, the last few were at West Riding rather than Yorkshire Buses

Yes, Selby did have some back in the 80s until possibly the early 90s.

The VRT's days ay Yorkshire Buses were numbered with the introduction of the Lynx's (mk 1 in 1987/1988/1989 and mk2 in 1990/1991). They were taken off the 201/203 services in the early 90's in favour of the Lynx's which was a real shame. I always thought they were retired too early as similar reg Olympians carried on until only a couple of years ago. They never carried the Arriva sticker, but at least one did carry the updated Yorkshire Buses livery with the simple red lower deck and cream upper deck rather than the red "tick". The Yorkshire buses fleet name was carried on the side of the bus above the drivers cab window rather than the usual place below the lower deck passenger windows.
One image of a VRT that sticks in my head was an episode of "Jimmy's" (the documentary at St James Hospital in the late 80's). A man was stuck under the front wheel of a West Riding VRT and the ambulance and fire brigade had to get the driver to roll the bus off the man!

The VR in Doctor Who was a preserved former West Riding example and was badly damaged in an accident when being unloaded from a boat in Morrocco or Dubai or wherever they filmed the desert bits (was in the paper).
Anyone know what has happened to it since (repaired/scrapped etc)?

Anyone know what has happened to it since (repaired/scrapped etc)? RUA461W wasnt a preserved VR. It was bought from stock at Ensign after being withdrawn from service at Hedingham and District. After seeing a photo of the damage caused by the container dropping on it, Barnsley will be calling for it soon where-ever it is at the moment ! Penfold

Yes, Selby did have some back in the 80s until possibly the early 90s. Selby some of the VRTSL2s for virtually all of their lifespan, notably from the HHL-L batch, e.g. 805 HHL 736 L, 806 HHL 737 L. A handful SL3s were there in the early 80s, notably the last West Riding VR 474/924 (VUA 474 X) was based at Selby in its early life before the Olympians fleet really bulked up. The HHL-L batch were the last to go from Selby in NBC days, sometime during 1985. VRs returned the Selby depot again in briefly in the early 1990s (93 at a guess) with 851, 855, 894 and 897 being draften in from Belle Isle due to a sudden increase in the number of schools contracts they took on. I do remember travelling on one of these in York (would have been 401/402/405 routes then) during this period.
