Following the news that National Express will extend some services between London and Leeds to Harrogate and possibly Bradford Forster Square and Grand Union being given permission to run a service between Bradford Interchange and London via Halifax, Brighouse, Pontefract and Wakefield, Stagecoach have launched two services which links West Yorkshire and London. Megabusplus runs one service from Huddersfield and Halifax bus stations and Mayo Avenue Morrisons in Bradford and the other from Harrogate, Askham Bar in York and Castleford Xscape to the recently built East Midlands Parkway near Loughborough, where passengers can connect from coach to East Midlands trains to London St Pancras. The service departs from Huddersfield at 0635 and 1245 Mon-Sat and 0940 on Sundays, Halifax at 0700 and 1310 Mon-Sat, 1005 Sundays, Mayo Ave at 0720 and 1330 Mon-Sat, 1025 Sundays and Castleford Xscape at 0740 and 1355 Mon-Sat, 1050 Sundays with services returning from London at 0815 and 1415 Mon-Sat or 1100 and 1800 Sundays. While this may not be a great alternative to the train (certainly slower than travelling to Leeds or Wakefield Westgate to board the NXEC services) and not ideal for day-trippers, for people who are making overnight trips to London and not too bothered about the journey times, then it is certainly a cheaper alternative. Have also noticed that Stagecoach have been using all optins to get their megabus services advertised in West Yorkshire, as I saw an advert for megabus on the side of an Arriva bus! www.megabusplus.com/

In regard to the opening post, National Express are PLANNING to extend some Leeds - London trains to Harrogate/Bradford, however this would require major rewrites of the Airedale & Harrogate line timetables (and possibly Leeds/Bradford and Wharfedale Lines also).
I believe National Express have been told that their services would be ok provided they do not adversely affect those of other franchised operators, so watch this space...
