Today i have a 158 break down as i tried to board, due to low air pressure. This was a 3 car York-Blackpool North and was replaced with a 2 car, as imagined it was packed on both. (16.41 into leeds)
Also at the same time a 185 pulled into leeds and seemed to be revving its engine at a constant beat and the destinations said 'not in service'

What time was the 185 in Leeds because there is one that arrived empty around 1700 and is added to the unit on the 1708 to Liverpool.
You were quite lucky there was a spare 158 to replace it with. Funny you should mention it though because when I was in Leeds earlier the 1608 to Manchester Victoria was failed (a class 153+155 combo) and replaced with a 144.

It was around 1700, didn't sound too well though. Yeah we got the one that was on platform 7 for the later departure i think. I saw another 158 heading out of Neville Hill towards Leeds which was possibly the replacement. Everyone was moaning but what can you do?
Nice a 144 all the way to Manc Vic, bet that was a pleasurable ride.

Even more so as the 144 was on the express to Victoria! Although 142's are fairly common on the rota I'd love to do it on a pacer!
Unfortunately trains will break down and people will moan but like you say - what can you do? Although I do find Northern to be fairly good at swapping sets round to cover for failures, even if you are late!

For Northern to say we could use the 158 already in the station is excellent, the train arrived 9minutes late into the station and was only 20mins late leaving Leeds. Could you get that service with any other company? I will praise Northern & their staff for their help & speed in swapping trains and leaving the station within 5minutes of the notification of the failure.

yes northern are good at swaping failed trains
144007 failed at huddersfield on the penistone line last week and got to sheffield only 15 mins late after 158906 was pulled out from the back of huddersfield station problem with the penistone line is that the trains pass at stocksmoor and barnsley and if a train heading down is over 15 mins late it will be stoped at penistone when the line could be made double in most places
