The Department of Transport have announced that brand new high speed trains will be built for the East Coast Main Line as well as for First Great Western services. The new vehicles will be assembled in Britain by Agility Trains, a consortium group involving John Laing, Hitachi and Barclays. The trains will be greener utilising hybrid technology, able to carry up to 21% more passengers than exisiting stock, and will enable faster journey times such as Leeds to London being reduced by 10 mins. He's a bit confused methinks. The 30 year old ones are the HST's which are as good now as whe they were new. The IEP is apparently to replace the 91's+Mk4's which are barely 20.

I think the IEP will replace both the HST's and the Class 91's/Mark 4's

I think they should be concentrating on sprinter replacements - i.e. where the money is really needed! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

If you travel on a 144 from Bradford Interchange to Leeds wear earplugs the sreeching as they go round the sharp curve from Mill Lane to Wakefield Road tunnel is deafening
