The title speaks for it's self really. What are the busiest bus routes in Yorkshire or West Yorkshire. I would reckon FWY Brown Line 1 Route is busy mainly on the Leeds-Lanswood Arm section of is the busiest. Also Consider the 110 Route, 16 and 56 Routes are also Busy.
Another route i would consider to be busy is the 508 route. Reason is because most people from Odsal and the surrounding areas don’t have a direct link to leeds via train unless they catch the 645 or 640 or 363 into town then onto the Train from the Interchange, so the 508 is a good direct link to leeds.
Your Opinions and Imput please

Couldn't agree more with the 56 being on there.
I think the 4 is a busy route, no matter what time i get on or where i'm getting on the bus is usually around 50% full, normally more though. I always see people standing on peak time runnings aswell.
Another route that is busy would have to be the 2s & 3s, simply they run along harrogate road which can be a nightmare at times but is always busy heading in and out of the city during the day.

The 49 is one that I never go on because of its lateness it fills up quickly from Kirkstall Morrisons , the Headingley buses are packed (usually with students i daren't go on a single decker operated route) and between the B7LA's going to York and the arrival of the B9TL's the 617/18 were a nightmare with the ex York B7L's

I always see people standing on peak time runnings aswell. Remember that the StreetCars only carry 42 seated passengers, hence why they are often carrying standing passengers! If the 4 were operated 100% by double deckers, it may appear to be less busy.

Your Opinions and Imput please I would say all the Leeds Overground routes as they all run every 10 minutes or better and most of them with double deckers The 508 only runs every 20 mins so how can it be the busiest route? I'm surprised you haven't managed to shoehorn in a mention of the 28?

Actually, they only seat 39 which isn't alot considering the road space they take up! Also, the 4 used beforehand used to be operated by Nick's favourite type of bus, Alexander Striders so obviously can't be that busy! The Red and Blue Line group of routes experience high patronage and read somewhere that the drivers usually cash in about a Grand at the end of their shifts after a stint on those routes. I would say that the 56 overall is the busiest single route in Leeds.

Anyway, are we defining busy as the daily footfall, how common overcrowding is, highest ticket sales? It's a bit of a vague subject.
For example, the Overground services in Leeds are arguably the busiest because they are the most frequent and utilise the majority of First's fleet, but does each 37 journey (an Overground route) for example carry more passengers than a bus on the X84 (much like the 28, another route to be mentioned at any given opportunity!)

Your Opinions and Imput please I agree that the 110 is a busy route. Not sure about the 508, probably only at peak times. Been on it a few times during the day and has been quite quiet. The X6 is usually busy, even though that is every 20 minutes. 503 usually has a good load on it but then so do a lot of the high frequency routes. And surprised no-one hasn't mentioned the Coastliner services yet. Some routes are busy at certain times. First's 184 service is busy when the college/uni students plus people making a day trip are travelling between Greater Manchester and Huddersfield. There have been times when heading to Huddersfield where the bus is full before reaching Marsden.

Round where I am the busiest routes are the X6 and 363-its a nightmare when 66791 or 66792 gets put on the 363-why they swapped 32509 and 32510 for these I'll never know!! 548/549 are busy at peak times but generally OK off peak, and I'll agree with faz2105 that the 503 is usually always busy, no matter what time of day.

I'm surprised you haven't managed to shoehorn in a mention of the 28? Erm, because that ones not busy past Headingley and as someone has already mentioned the fact that the Leeds-Headingley Section is busy, why bother stating every single service. Craig, by the term "Busy" i wish for you to interpret it as you will.

Like Craig said, it is a rather ambigious statement to answer due to the variables you would look at when considering what makes a bus route busy. To add to that list, are buses to be operating full for the most of the day including evenings?

In Answer to your question's i would define "Busy" as the total amount of passanger travelled on each route per day-so from First Journey to Last.

The 12 or 13/A (Roundhay-bound) surely deserve a mention. The queues outside Primark are a nightmare.

The 95 overnight during term time can be as busy as I have travelled through Leeds at 1-2 in the morning and buses have been full of Students and regular passengers getting home from town.

Since the title is ''Yorkshire Bus routes'' maybe I can mension a few from Doncaster:
X78 Doncaster - Rotherham - Medowhell - Sheffield (Every 9 Minuites)
55 Doncaster - Rossington (Every 9 Minuites)
84/87/88/88A Doncaster - Hatfield (84) - Moorends (87/88/88A) - Lindholm Prison (88A) Goole (88) Are very busey in between 3pm and 6pm.

202/203 can get very busy at peak times, especially when they are short of a Lowlander as it's usually a Dennis Dart covering for it! I still say that Dewsbury could do with a few more Double Deckers.

If its frequency that counts then Transdev Harrogates 100/101/102 Harrogate-Starbeck-Knaresorough are every 7/8minutes (8 a hour)

If we're looking at frequency, then I think the Headingley corridor with up to 24 buses per hour (or every 2 to 3 mins) wins!

Hmm, I think what should of been said when this thread was created was some form of specification on how a service is to be defined as busy as it seems to be open up to loose interpretation.

I did raise that question with the original author who replied with "In Answer to your question's i would define "Busy" as the total amount of passanger travelled on each route per day-so from First Journey to Last. "... so until we can get our hands on daily ticket data for each route, this little problem may never be resolved!

I know this thread was last talked about in 2008 but I have found it and I wanted to state from what I see as the busiest bus services in West Yorkshire.
Leeds: A number of them I would say probably ranking

Bradford
1. X6 Leeds to Bradford FAST 2. 662 Bradford to Keighley 3. 617/618 Allerton to Holmewood 4. 363/X63 Huddersfield to Bradford 5. 425 Bradford to Wakefield
Calderdale
1. 503 Halifax to Huddersfield 2. 521/2/3 Halifax to Illingworth (Combined) 3. 576 Halifax to Bradford 4. Mixenden routes (excluding 524) 5. 548/9 Halifax to Nunnery Lane/Huddersfield
South Kirklees
1. 363/X63 Bradford to Huddersfield 2. 503 Halifax to Huddersfield 3. 370/1 Rawthorpe/Dalton to Lindley 4. 372 Lindley to Almondbury 5. 328 Bradley to Balmoral Avenue
North Kirklees 1. 229 Heckmondwike to Leeds (Huddersfield section not as busy) 2. 202/3 Dewsbury to Leeds (Huddersfield section not as busy) 3. 268 Heckmondwike to Wakefield (Bradford to Cleckheaton section isn't as busy) 4. 126 Wakefield to Dewsbury 5. 200/201 Heckmondwike to Leeds
Wakefield 1. 110 Leeds to Wakefield 2. 106 Wakefield to Hall Green Currently don't know the rest as I am not in Wakey that often.
