ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen) members will walk out on Saturday, September 30, and Wednesday, October 4.
An overtime ban will be in place across the UK rail network on Friday, September 29, and from October 2-6 (Monday to Friday).

Are Aslef, RMT, the govt and operators any closer to a resolution? It is obvious that the bus and road networks can't cope on strike days even with high levels of home working. Also it does not help sectors like hospitality.

Nope.
Government won't let train operators negotiate a deal without all sorts of strings attached that they know the unions will never agree to.

Why can't the bloody government just simply bring in a law whereby all rail strikes have to happen on the same day! If you're travelling from Leeds to the Midlands on December 7th or 8th, you've got a right headache on your hands! I've been caught out myself travelling to Lincoln with a change at Doncaster on the EMR service, EMR were on strike but I didn't know that as as everyone else wasn't so assumed there were no strikes, had to get a refund back in Leeds as the next connecting train using LNER with a change somewhere else wouldn't have got me down there til mid afternoon. And in case you were wondering, I used the connection on EMR at Doncaster as it was the cheapest quickest option, I wasn't going to pay a house price on the fastest option and didn't fancy spending all day travelling on Northern.

you've got a right headache on your hands! That's generally the point of a strike, to cause disruption.

ASLEF announced an escalation of their dispute with LNER with strike action running for the full week from Monday 5 February through to Friday 9 February on top of the previously announced strike on Friday 2 February. LNER Strike day: Friday 2 February 00:01 - 23:59. No non-compulsory overtime 00:01 Monday 29 Jan until 23:59 Tuesday 6 February. Do they have more of an issue with LNER than the other operators?

I believe LNER are the only company that have said they're going to invoke the minimum service level, probably linked to the fact they're government owned and they're testing the water on reaction and how effective it is before other government owned companies bring it in and finally the private owned
