Calderdale Bus Service Review
You have been warned, this is a long one as I am from the area and have had a few talks with some local people on how they would run the local buses. Some ideas are also used from other members of the forum as they agreed on how certain services should be run. A summary of the changes: Improvements with linking 900/1/2 services with the 537 to create a coordinated timetable of half hourly ran buses through to Stainland from Huddersfield. Timetable coordination improved for buses between Halifax, Elland, Stainland or Brighouse with the theory of the 538 service. Reorganizing the mess of the Mixenden Corridor. Introducing better timetable coordination for bus services between Halifax, Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden/Sowerby 254/5 Halifax - Cleckheaton - Leeds Others and this several times on other threads with 254 replacing part of the 571. 337/8/9 Huddersfield - Marsh - Outlane - Barkisland - Ripponden - Cragg Vale - Hebden Bridge The renumbering of these services are to fit along with the Huddersfield numbering scheme and the 537/8/9. A simple hourly timetable will run with departures from Huddersfield and Hebden Bridge at leaving at 00 (off peak). Service 337 will run during off peak hours along most of the current 901 route. However, journeys will be rerouted via Rishworth to encourage more usage, as Rishworth and Oldham Road have a larger bus catchment area in usage (even with the 586 being every 2 hrs). This will also allow better timetable coordination with service 338 (900) as the service tends to be around 15 minutes longer with its Pole Moor and Krumlim routing. Sunday service 339, will be the existing route service of 901 but will run via Oakes for the loss of service 536. The service will run hourly between Huddersfield and Rishworth with journeys continuing on 3 times per day towards Hebden Bridge. 502 Halifax - Beechwood Road - Illingworth - Denholme - Cullingworth - Cross Roads - Keighley I would coordinate this service with 67 to provide a half - hourly service. Journeys on 67 will omit Spring Bank allowing the usage of double-deckers and better time keeping, then the K15 can be fully reinstated in clockwise and anti-clockwise journeys running along Spring Bank in replacement. I would also add an hourly evening service between Halifax and Denholme and a service every 2 hours onto Keighley to provide a half - hourly service with 67 on evenings. I would also have a full Sunday daytime service designed to run between 9 AM and 6 PM hourly. Also I would coordinate journeys to form a rough half hourly service between Halifax and Bradshaw with service 526. The 502 has become a popular service and I believe it can succeed as well as 67 if there were more trips allowing people to rely on the bus rather than their car to travel. 58/508/X8 Halifax - Northowram - Shelf - Odsal Top - Thornbury - Armley - Leeds To cover for the loss of the 508 along the Farsley and Kirkstall routing, I would introduce a new half-hourly service between Leeds, Kirkstall, Farsley, Pudsey and Pudsey Fartown under the number 58. The service will follow the old 508 route with the exstention of running along the 16 and 4F route. Service 508 will be reduced to an hourly evening and Sunday only service (with Sundays combining half-hourly with service X8). Daytime journeys will be replaced by the new X8 service which will run 508's current route now. Service 508 will run the old route via Farsley and the addition of Newhall Way in replacement of service X8 and 58 during the evening. Departures on service 508 from Leeds will be at xx40 from 1900 until 0200. The reason for a late evening service is to allow the evening city workers (since driving in Leeds has become near impossible), and the Friday/Saturday rush to have a bus service. The 508 will still be able to use Stand A of Halifax Bus Station after midnight, as that's planned to have a walkway to Wade Street. Service X8 will be the existing 508 service running half-hourly during Monday to Saturday daytime and hourly on Sundays. To speed up journey times slightly, the service will follow the X6 route out of Leeds City Centre and only call at the same stops as X6 between Thornbury and Leeds. 509/510/511/512/513 Halifax - Mixenden Circular As said by the local residents, the whole new Mixenden number of bus services are confusing with routes being basically the same having different numbers. Examples of this are 509 and 510 as well as 511 and 513. The service numbers that would remain are 510/1/2 with all of them running half hourly services each. Service 510 can extend to terminate at Hambleton Drive and run half hourly Monday to Saturday through Halifax, Hebble Lane and Mixenden only rather than being a circular. Services 511/512 will remain with 511 being reintroduced to half hourly, in replacement of 513. All services 511/2 will call via Wainstalls omitting Hambleton Drive, as there is a higher catchment in Wainstalls compared to Moor-End Road. Going of experience, I don't believe I have ever seen anybody get on the bus along the stretch of Moor-End Road and Mixenden/Mount Tabor. This will also make it easier for a simple half hourly timetable as with some buses serving Wainstalls and some not there can be breaks in the timetable as the lengths are very different. 524/5 Halifax - Ovenden - Mixenden This service seems to terminate at a useless area of Mixenden, so I would extend the 524 around ironically named Stanningley Drive and Sunny Bank Road in anti-clockwise loop. Reasoning behind this is because there is quite a high catchment and a lot of the houses are located on a hill from First's services being a nightmare for shopping. As for the new service 525, I would introduce it to run hourly combined with 524 to make a half hourly service with the only difference being that the 525 will run along Grove Avenue which it's elderly resident have been left without a bus service since early 2020. The reasoning behind the half - hourly idea is to get Grove Ave, Stanningley Dr and Sunny Bank Road familiar with a local bus service. 526 Halifax - Beechwood Road - Illingworth - Queensbury - Hungerhill/Shelf I would improve coordination with this service and the 502 create a rough half-hour frequency between Bradshaw and Halifax Town Centre. 532 Halifax - Highroadwell - King Cross - Scar Bottom Circular I would renumber this service to form 2 circulars 544 and 545 and run a complete new and more reliable route for Scar Bottom. The service at the moment seems to carry fresh air, but with the new quicker routes, adding Calderdale Royal Hospital and King Cross Tesco will help the service perform better. More explained further down. 538 Halifax - CRH - Elland - Brighouse The new service coming up is expected to run half-hourly improving transport links for Elland Town Centre as part of the BSIP. I would provide an every 7/8 minute service with 537, restored 539 and X1 of buses via the fast route into Elland Town Centre. 537 Halifax - CRH - Elland - South Lane - Stainland - Outlane - Marsh - Huddersfield I would coordinate this service with new service 538/9 to form an every 15 minutes service between Halifax and Elland Town Centre and half-hourly to Sowood. To ensure easier timing for a half hourly service with the 539 the service can be re-routed to run via the 343 route around South Lane ALDI and Elsinore Avenue. Between Huddersfield and Stainland/Outlane journeys will be timed with the 338/7/9 (900/1/2) to create a half hourly service. 539 Halifax - CRH - Elland - West Vale - Stainland - Sowood - Outlane Circular Service 539 will be reinstated with some tweaks to restore lost links from 2022, and a better service for Hullen Edge, Stainland and Holywell Green. The service will follow the 537 towards Elland Huddersfield Road then run via the 503 route along Long Wall and Saddleworth Road to West Vale. From there, the service will follow the existing 536 route to Sowood where it will then continue to the Dog & Partridge Inn, Forest Hill Road, Gosport Road and New Hey Road to serve lower Outlane, as the majority of Outlane's population seem to live along the section of New Hey Road on the 900. This service will run hourly all day, all week replacing service 536. 541/2 Halifax - Hopwood or Parkinson Lane - Norton Tower This service being focused between Norton Tower and Halifax only, is a great idea allowing the busy services at peaks to have double-deckered usage and allowing better time keeping and the usage of less vehicles since they can inter-work other services now. However, the well populated areas of Highroadwell, Newlands and Norton Tower remain without an evening bus service despite the residents all wanting a later service. I would introduce an evening service with running times of 25 (541) and 55 past the hour (542) until 22:55 from Halifax. I would introduce a bus service every 15 minutes combined between Halifax and Norton Tower with the 541 being slightly-rerouted to run along Gibbet Street rather than Hopwood Lane in replacement of service 532. I believe Gibbet Street deserves a far better service with it's high population, high number of high street shops and several mosques being located along this road. 543 Halifax - Siddal With the addition of this service replacing the 541/2 on the Siddal section, I would re-route this service via Nestle's factory and Matalan to allow no vehicle height restrictions on the service. Also this would be an ideal route for when the new bus station is fully open as running along Winding Road will help avoid lots of traffic signals. Currently, no services serve Nestle, Matalan or Halifax Minister which could be key spots for an ideal passenger service. A contract for this service could be designed to run half - hourly into 3 AM for the Nestle Workers. 544/545 Halifax - Savile Park - King Cross - Washer Lane - Skircoat Green - CRH - Halifax These will be 2 new hourly services designed to replace the 532. Service 544 will run from Halifax Bus Station via Broad Street, Commercial Street, George Square, Barum Top, Harrison Road, Carlton Street, Bull Close Lane, Savile Park Road then the 574 route towards Pye Nest, then the existing 532 route to Skircoat Moor Road. From here the service will run into Skircoat Green, via Calderdale Royal Hospital then Huddersfield Road to town. The inverse route will be numbered 545. The reason for these changes is to improve connectivity and allow Washer Lane to have a more quicker service to town as well as a link to Hospital and Tesco. 579 Halifax - Sowerby Bridge - Sowerby I would coordinate this service with services 586/7 to create an every 10 minute frequency. With 579 leaving at xx00, xx10, xx30 and xx40 and then the 586 at xx20 and 587 at xx50. 586/586A Halifax - Sowerby Bridge - Triangle - Ripponden - Rishworth - Commons - Littleborough - Smallbridge - Rochdale I would reintroduce an hourly service to this route with the timetable being coordinated with 587 to create a bus every 30 minutes between Halifax and Ripponden and an every 10 minute frequency with 579 between Halifax and Sowerby Bridge. I would coordinate this service with services 586/7 to create an every 10 minute frequency. With 579 leaving at xx00, xx10, xx30 and xx40 and then the 586 at xx20 and 587 at xx50 from Halifax. During the evening departures from 19:20 to 22:20 will extend towards Rochdale in replacement of service 587 under the number of 586A. The reasoning behind this is for better connectivity with the railway. I know a few people who go into Littleborough for a cheaper train fair to Littleborough from the Ripponden area. Journeys can also be coordinated with 579 in the evening with 586 at xx20 and 579 at xx50. 587 Halifax - Sowerby Bridge - Triangle - Ripponden - Littleborough - Smallbridge - Rochdale I would time this service with 579 and 586 to create an every 10 minute service between Halifax and Sowerby Bridge and then half hourly on to Ripponden with 579 leaving at xx00, xx10, xx30 and xx40 and then the 586 at xx20 and 587 at xx50. 681/682 Halifax - Northowram - Shelf - Odsal Top - Bradford I would time these services with the X8 to create an every 15 minute service between Halifax and Odsal Top with 681 avoiding the detour in Northowram and sticking to the main road for faster and better journey times. Service 682 will still remain serving Woodside and Northowram Village. With these changes being here is how I would allocate stands in the new bus station. Halifax Bus Station: Stand E: 343, 562, 563, 563A Stand F: 537, 538, 539 Stand G: 502, 524, 526 Stand H: 561, 574, 577, Stand J: HX1, HX2, HX3 Stand K: 543, 544, 545 Stand L: 530, 541, 542, 546 Stand M: 548, 549 evenings 538 Stand N: 579, 586, 587 evenings 561, 577 Stand P: 20, 21, 511, evenings 510, 521, 522 Stand Q: 590, 591, 592 evenings 574 Stand R: 254, 255 evenings Stand S: 508, 681, 682, X8 Stand T: 576 evenings 22, 502, 526 Stand U: 501, X1 and evenings 562, 537, 539

You have been warned, this is a long one as I am from the area and have had a few talks with some local people on how they would run the local buses. Some ideas are also used from other members of the forum as they agreed on how certain services should be run. A summary of the changes: 337/8/9 Huddersfield - Marsh - Outlane - Barkisland - Ripponden - Cragg Vale - Hebden Bridge The renumbering of these services are to fit along with the Huddersfield numbering scheme and the 537/8/9. Not sure I see the point of some of these changes. The 900/1/2 share a corridor in/out of Huddersfield alongside routes 343,370/1,501,536/7 so the numbers 337-9 seem odd if your trying to make them fit better? As they run from Calderdale & the Marsh corridor into Huddersfield already has 5** routes then numbering them into the Calderdale series might make more sense. The 681 change surely would make a worse service removing it from Northowram village (a place expected to keep growing) to instead serve a couple of fields before Stone Chair Roundabout saving approx. 2-3 Mins despite it already being the more successful route on the Halifax - Shelf corridor.

Fair enough about the 681. The numbers for 900/1/2 I did look at a 37x number but there's no space as 370, 371, 372, 374, 375, 377 and 378 exist so all the numbers would have been spaced out randomly

After previous suggestions both here & elsewhere on the forum recently I've had a think of my own proposals for the Bradford/Calderdale/Farsley areas:
60/A: 60A Withdrawn (replaced with 605) with 60 now operating Every 20 Mins across the full length of the route also replacing 622.
254: Extended to Halifax via Elland, rather than the previously suggested extension via Southowram instead replacing the proposed 538 service running Half Hourly M-Sat,Hourly Sundays
255: Increased to Half Hourly across it's full route, with an Hourly evening service to Halifax introduced replacing the current 254 evening service (18:53 > 21:53 + 22:53 Cleck Short from Leeds,18:25 > 21:25 + 22:25,23:25 Cleck shorts from Halifax)
254/5 Combined to provide a 15 Mins M-Sat/30 Mins Sunday Daytime frequency Halifax > Cleckheaton > Leeds
508: Withdrawn, replaced with 605 & 681/2. Halifax > Leeds links provided by improved 254/5 & train services.
Proposed 538: Now 254 extension.
576: Later round journey added at 22:43 from Halifax/23:23 from Bradford
605: New service between Bradford & Leeds, replacing 60A,508 & 671. From Bradford operates via West Bowling, Newhall Way, Culter Heights, Holme Wood, Thornbury, Farsley, Kirkstall & Burley Wood. Half Hourly M-Sat, Hourly Evenings/Sundays. Would restore previous service levels to both the West Bowling & Farsley areas after various service cuts over the past 5-10 years. Service would also serve the top end of Holme Wood (Holmewood Rd, Broadstone Way, Tyersal Lane) providing direct links into Leeds from this estate alongside a fairly direct service from Bradford City Cnt to Newhall Way Ind Est. From Kirkstall would operate via Kirkstall Hill, Argie Ave & Burley Road rather than Kirkstall Rd providing a service through Burley Wood Est & offering better links to Leeds College & LGI.
622: Withdrawn
626: Extra short journeys operating between Bradford Int & Shipley added replacing 622.
645: Extended from Buttershaw Cooper Lane to Westwood Park via Cooper Lane, Swift Dr, Redpoll Way then loop around Quail Ave/Yate Holm Dr/Winscar Ave/Jacana Way/Ouzel Dr/Patridge Dr giving this fairly large estate & the local community hospital a bus service.
671: Cut back to from West Bowling to Bradford City Cnt but extended from Thorpe Edge via Greengates to Apperley Bridge Rail Stn improving connections to Leeds. West Bowling section replaced by new 605.
681: Frequency Improved to operate Every 15 Mins M-Sat daytimes partly replacing 508, possibly further improving to 10Mins in future. Sunday daytimes would increase to Every 20 Mins between 681/2 (1x 682 + 2x 681) with evenings having 681/2 both hourly to combine to Every 30 Mins.
X6: M-Fri Peak times frequency increased to Every 10 Mins

Not a chance of getting a regular bus along Argie Avenue - it's hard enough driving a car down there, due to parked cars, speed bumps, and some horrible sight lines. And the turn from Argie Ave to Kirkstall Hill is far too tight. In fact, I can't think of a single road linking Kirkstall Road and Kirkstall Hill / Burley Road between Kirkstall lights and Willow Road that would be suitable for buses.

When i've driven along Argie Ave it doesn't seem too much smaller than some of the other estates that have bus services although possibly requiring Midi/DDs only instead of full sized Single deckers. I'll change the proposal anyway to have it run direct along Burley Rd (same as routes 49/50/50A).

X6: M-Fri Peak times frequency increased to Every 10 Mins Quite a few of these suggestions are brilliant, however I am not sure about a few. The 508 has already received lot's of backlash when the route was modified. Plus some people do use the 508 end to end, especially when trains strike the buses do fill up quite easily. Not sure having them spend an extra half an hour on 255 will help. As for the 254 exstention, the reason I suggested it replacing the 571 is because currently the 254 is an hour and 10 minutes while the 571 between Halifax, Southowram and Brighouse takes 20 minutes which would allow for a nice combined frequency with the route being the same length as the 255. Also, the 571 is a pretty useless service outside of providing a link from Southowram to Brighouse and Halifax, as there are faster or other more useful alternatives between Halifax to Hipperholme on 255, 548/9, Halifax to Lightcliffe on 255 and Brighouse to Lightcliffe on 686/8, Halifax to Shelf 508, 681/2 and Brighouse to Hipperholme 548/9.

622: Withdrawn 626: Extra short journeys operating between Bradford Int & Shipley added replacing 622. 645: Extended from Buttershaw Cooper Lane to Westwood Park via Cooper Lane, Swift Dr, Redpoll Way then loop around Quail Ave/Yate Holm Dr/Winscar Ave/Jacana Way/Ouzel Dr/Patridge Dr giving this fairly large estate & the local community hospital a bus service. I Agree the 508 cut might have some complaints, but most of the previous 508 complaints was due to Farsley what my 605 replaces & end to end journeys would still be covered on either the Arriva services or the train plus I Do believe an improved 681 would be more successful overall (It's noticeable over the years the 508s gone from Every 20 Mins to Hourly whilst 681/2s remained Half Hourly Daily), with frequent trains & a more frequent X6 for Leeds passengers from Shelf to connect for in Bradford once the Interchange is open. Essentially improving local links at the cost of an interurban route that doesn't do a good job of serving anyone that well at the moment. Although I Know it's very unlikely to happen I would remove the Zone 1 M-Card 'Leeds Tax' making it cheaper for commuters to use the train to Leeds as well saving them having to do the extra half hour on 254 (although depending how long they have to wait around for the Hourly 508 they might have a reduced overall journey if the 254/5 ran Every 15 Mins even including the longer actual journey time) I Agree over the 571 comments, my idea for the 254 to take the proposed 538s place instead was mostly due to the fact there is already funding there for a Half Hourly service on that section (along with Half Hourly to Brighouse being planned on 254) whilst for the moment at least there is only funding for an hourly service over Southowram.

West Leeds Bus Review (Some parts of Halifax and Bradford also)
Summary & Reasoning: As part of the BSIP, I think it should be important to restore services to their old frequencies and restore old important links that have been lost as of recent times (10 years ago to now). Locals have fussed about the removal of the 508 service from areas such as: Kirkstall, Coal Hill and Farsley which are areas that the 508 used to pick up quite a good amount of passengers from. Since the withdrawal of the 508 from those areas have been left with the lengthy 16 to travel into Leeds City Centre. So I have worked a new bus service 58 (Mon-Sat to restore lost links) and the restoration of the 508 (Sundays and Evenings to retain a link to Halifax, Thornbury and Odsal on Sundays and Evenings). I have also worked on the Aireline to get rid of the 20-40 awful frequency between Keighley, Bingley and Shipley. Skeleton service 80 has been withdrawn and replaced by existing services, as there is no point in existance. Service X8 (508) will be every 20 minutes restoring that frequency between Halifax and Leeds but also having a frequency increase on 681/2 to allow an every 10 minute service between Halifax and Northowram. Service 16 between Farsley has been cut and replaced by service 58 with the service instead linking along Richmond Road, Dawsons Corner and to the Owlcotes Centre to provide better retailing opportunities for the sub-urbs of western Leeds.
16/16A Whinmoor - Seacroft - St James Hospital - City Centre - Armley - Bramley - Farsley - Owlcotes Centre A more simple every 15 minute combined frequency will be restored to this bus service with the service no longer serving Stanningley and Pudsey. This part of the route will be replaced by the new service 58. Instead, this service will be rerouted via Richmond Road and Pudsey Civic Hall towards the Owlcotes Centre, replacing service 80. This also means Richmond Road has a service frequency increase to every 30 minutes rather than random points during the day. Service 16A will be upgraded to every 30 minutes, replacing service 60A and 80 on Bagley Lane and will use the current 16 route along Old Road then along Bradford Road to Dawson's Corner and Owlcotes. Sunday and Evening services will be restored to a simple half-hourly frequency with one 16/16A every hour each. On Sundays and evenings service 16A will also continue towards Pudsey Bus Station via Owlcotes. I would also introduced a nightly service on these routes between Bramley, Leeds and Seacroft.
58 Leeds - Kirkstall - Farsley - Stanningley - Pudsey - Galloway Lane This is a new service ran by First Leeds that will be introduced, with the service number being influenced from the 508 and 60. This service will run every 20 minutes during the Mon-Sat daytime and hourly during evenings. This service would also be designed to follow the old 508 route between Leeds and Farsley, then services 16/16A between Farsley and Pudsey, as well as service 30 between Pudsey and Galloway Lane. This restores the fast link lost from Farsley and Coal Hill Lane to Leeds City Centre. The reasoning behind the exstention beyond Pudsey is to replace service 30 since it never runs anyways. From Pudsey Bus Station the service will run along Cemetery Road past Highfield Green towards Owlcotes Road where the service will then run anti clockwise Galloway Lane and Ingham's Avenue as a turn around point. During evening and Sunday, this service will run hourly combined with service 508 to provide a half hourly service between Leeds, Kirkstall and Farsley.
Aireline 60 Leeds - Kirkstall - Rodley - Calverley - Greengates - Thackley - Shipley - Bingley - Keighley With the Leeds to Moorside section suffering heavily over frequency decreases in the last couple of years with the loss of service 670 and 508 the average frequency has been reduced from 6 buses per hour to 3 buses per hour. So to restore the frequency I have decided to link the Aireline with the new service 58 which will combine with Aireline to form a bus every 10 minutes. Service 60A and 622 will also be withdrawn with all Aireline services to allow an every 20 minute frequency all throughout the route in replacement. The Bagley Lane section of the 60A will also be replaced an increased service on 16A. The Sunday service will be revised to run half hourly between Leeds, Greengates and Shipley and continuing hourly onto Bingley and Keighley, combining with services 58 and 508 to form a service every 15 minutes between Moorside, Kirkstall and Leeds on Sundays.
508 Leeds - Kirkstall - Farsley - Thornbury - Culter Heights - Odsal Top - Shelf - Northowram - Halifax The old route to service 508 will be introduced, but designed to run as an hourly evening and Sunday service only. The service will combine with 58 to form a half hourly service between Leeds, Kirkstall and Farsley with Mon-Sat daytime journeys being replaced by new service X8 that will be designed to run between Halifax and Leeds. During the Sunday daytime, this service will also link with X8 and 682 to create a service every 15 minutes between Halifax and Shelf. In addition, journeys will also run via Mid Point (Thornbury Industrial Area) and Newhall Way to form a service for the workers. Mon to Sat Evenings would depart Leeds Bus Station at xx40 between 1900 and 0200 and Halifax Bus Station at xx10 between 1900 and 0100.
622 Bradford - Manningham - Shipley - Saltaire - Bingley. This service will be withdrawn with trips being replaced between Shipley and Bradford on services 626 and 60 (Bingley to Saltaire and Shipley).
626 Bradford - Manningham - Shipley - Baildon This service will be increased to run every 15 minutes during Mon-Sat between Bradford and Shipley with journeys continuing half-hourly onto Baildon to replace service 622. Sundays would also be boosted to run every 30 minutes throughout the entire route.
681/682 Halifax - Northowram - Shelf - Odsal Top - Manchester Road - Bradford - Fagley The frequency of these services will be increased to every 20 minutes coordinating with X8 to form a service every 10 minutes along the A6036. Service 682 will also extend to Fagley on Sundays combined with 686 to form a half-hourly service to Fagley.
X8 Leeds - Armley - Stanningley Bypass - Thornbury - Culter Heights - Odsal Top - Shelf - Northowram - Halifax This is a new service designed to replace service 508 and run every 20 minutes Mon-Sat daytime (restoring the original 508 frequency). The service will run the existing 508 route but will be designed to be limited stop between Thornbury roundabout and Leeds, serving the same stops as X6. During the Sunday daytime, service X8 will be timed with 508 and 682 to create a service every 15 minutes between Halifax and Shelf as well as a half-hourly service with 508 between Halifax and Thornbury. Service X8 however, will not operate during the evenings with the link being provided on service 508.

I'd suggest running at least half the 16/A journeys to Pudsey as there would probably be complains about cutting the link to St James & heavily reducing the Bramley link (unless a rerouted & improved 91 took them roles)

Pudsey will also still have 4/4F which will take almost half the time as the 16 4/F don't serve St James, they go via Stoney Rock Lane. For between Bramley & Pudsey if you removed 16/A the options go from 7BPH down to 3, baring in mind it was only 5-6 years ago there was 10-11BPH that's a fairly major cut.

340 - Huddersfield to Waterloo Morrisons via Almondbury, replacing the 342. I've found it different to imagine a route which is a direct link to the village. It needs somewhere to go afterwards, but there isn't many great options. I think this route is the best option available. This route would allow very convenient, easy access to the local supermarket not only from the village but from the bungalow estate which was uniquely served by the 342. The supermarket currently has a bus stop but it appears to be unused by a traditional service, and appeared to only be in use by access bus? This route would also act as a fast link in BOTH directions to the village, which I consider to be the main usage of the 342. I would also bring back the 6am to 6pm timetable on a trial basis since the existing service is so very far from healthy levels of usage. I hope this service would do something to reverse that...

To do away with the 20-40 min split between Todmorden & Burnley in the off peak and the mess of the running times, here is what I would do... Simply give one or the other 15 minutes drop out at Todmorden going to Burnley and then coming back the other. This maintains a clean 30 minutes split. Can guarantee that the one after the 40 min wait will be busier and then one after 20 min will be quieter then they can use the excuse of low passenger numbers to reduce it to hourly. OR just do the logical thing and have every 20 or 15 minutes between Halifax and Todmorden and the 589 every 30 minutes between Rochdale - Todmorden - Burnley. Also are the more realistic running times, the new timetable has 18 minutes between Halifax and Tuel Lane Top... 18 minutes?! 15 is too much, was better when it was 12. Waiting time out there causes a massive obstruction to traffic the same reason why the one in the other direction was changed to Whitty Lane. 6 minutes Mytholmroyd to Hebden Bridge - not enough loading and queuing traffic into Hebden was the reason it was 10 minutes before, so now you will wait at top of Tuel Lane for 5 minutes, then be late getting to Hebden Bridge because there is no local knowledge anymore. 6 minutes Todmorden to Walsden is going to be interesting too, will never be on time. Useless AI yet again, no clue what it's doing.

Would probably have to use a different number to 589 now GMPTE are using it & under the franchising 'permits' they can deny a new service due to using a number duplicate to another in the county. 590 Rochdale - Burnley & 591 Todmorden - Halifax might work?

@cp2012 Yeah I forgot about that, but an idea I had was leave the 590/592 as is with short journeys between Halifax - Todmorden still being 592 but having the 591 as a re-numbered Rochdale - Burnley service... But anyway, no use, nobody listens to you and they don't care about the passengers or what they want so pointless even putting it forward to anyone lol.

I Agree with you over that considering the mess they've made over the most recent timetable, makes the days of the old 589-594 seem much more simple. Apart allowing the legacy numbers to continue, is there any reason to keep a 59* number for a Rochdale - Burnley service? As a way of gaining a few brownie points off TFGM I wondered if renumbering such as service as 459 could work, tidying up the Rochdale - Littleborough corridor & allowing both routes connecting Burnley with GM towns to be in the 4** series.

In replacement for the Fernside Avenue and cresent area possibly 341 could be rerouted to serve that section. I would also keep the 342 number to allow 372 to be numbered 340, since that's now only running from Huddersfield to Almondbury. Having the number close with 340 (372) could also influence a greater passenger flow showing these services go similar areas.

To be fair there is 587, which is now closely numbered to 590 after previously having a history as 528 and X58. The 587 already gains brownies points off the Halifax Road corridor as it runs a faster route into Rochdale, perhaps 590 should do the same to knock off journey time.

Difference is the 587 is funded by WYCA & plays a part in the Calderdale network, the only corridor a Rochdale > Burnley service would share is the Littleborough corridor hence my thinking about the numbers. not sure the 587 gains much points over using Entwistle Rd into Rochdale v Yorkshire Street as the Bee Network has 457 doing the same thing as well. The current split actually works out nicely as both roads have 4PH for local journeys into Rochdale (590 alongside 456/8 & 587 alongside 457/R7) so apart from saving a few minutes nothing much would be gained rerouting the 590 (or any future replacement)

Do you know the 587 runs the wrong route into Rochdale everyday? On inbound journeys it runs via Entwistle Road instead of the one way street before (Hamer Lane) which is the correct and registered route. It had been brought up many times but they still run the wrong way.

The 587 is my local route and it often switches between the one way street and the other road depending on the driver. The 457s seem to get it right though, but to be fair the drivers are from Rochdale having more local knowledge.

No excuse drivers should be properly route learned infact it's harder to go down Entwistle Road into Rochdale due to the layout of the mini roundabout and high kerbed traffic islands at the end of the road. They've been made aware several times once by a TfGM inspector too yet still fail to run the registered route
