Asking this question as a total App newbie. So you download the App onto your phone You purchase a ticket using the App That's the simple part. How does the ticket get from your phone onto your Metro Pink Card? Metro insist it can be done but don't provide any details. Does it have to be your own phone or can you briefly borrow a friend's phone to do this?

You can scan your M card with your phone if it has a nfc tag which needs to be turned on in settings.

Also there's a new app called Mcard mobile which you can buy tickets and it will provide you with a QR code that you scan on the ticket machine when you board

Thanks for that. I HAVE used the original pink card app that reads your card, lets you top up and then transfer the information to the card. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it to work recently, the only alternatives are to visit the bus station or a more expensive on the bus ticket.
The operator-only tickets are okay and work in a similar way but limiting.

In theory you can get them at payzone stores too - but I've not yet found correct times for any store on their website and some refuse to do it. After 6 complaints about my local store never being able to do it (excuses included the equipment not working and the member of staff who knew how to do it not being there) they solved it by taking them off the list if you searched for stores that sell MCards - this was before the app and when a card receipt was required for period bus and train tickets.

Hm. The app and the cards are two separate things. This is quite common on travel apps, but annoying; you need one account for your card, one for the app and the two aren't connected so your app account doesn't know what's on your card and the card account doesn't know what's on your phone *or* your card. I've got an iPhone SE 1st generation, which might also be part of the problem.
If I hadn't kept the receipt I'd have no way of knowing that I have one MetroDay purchase left on my Pink MCard, expiring on Thursday (or Wednesday, probably, since it was part of a batch I bought on 15 Oct last year).

If you've got a phone with nfc that can tell you, or there are machines at Metro bus stations which can tell you what's on your card.

Last I knew, the original M-card app, not the new M-card mobile, was only available for Android, and not available for iPhones
