Yes they can. As I got on 1949 a few months ago from Pontefract on the 187 and it came to Pontefract off the 409 so they definitely can, but I heard there was a low bridge or something in Askern so they have to be careful I heard from 2 drivers talking to each other, one of them was doing a double decker run to Doncaster from Pontefract. 1949 did the 409 full runs twice that day I got on from Pontefract on the 187. But usually Stephen, they try and avoid putting doubles on there, if there is a double on the 187 they will usually try and find a single decker to swap with at Castleford when the double is coming from Wakefield on the 187. That is from what I've seen. But if there is nothing available to swap with the double deckers will do the full 187/408/409. I've seen an E400 on the 408 too, but it's rare it happens like I said. Don’t recall going under any low bridges in South Yorkshire when the 485 ran that way in 2005-2007 when I drove them. Only restriction on there was the bridge between Ackworth & Badsworth, under which a 13’9 Olympian or Spectra would pass, but you had to slow down to around 20mph to avoid bouncing whilst passing under. All I heard was one of the drivers telling the other one to be careful at some point on the route on the 409 or something because it was a double decker. I automatically assumed it was due to a low bridge or something.

Strange that they are registered for Yorkshire coastliner. Maybe they plan to have a couple of coastliner busses based in idle? Early morning departures from Leeds?

It could be if Flyer is going to tie-in with the York & Country brand name.

I'm guessing there's been a lot of uncertainty about what timetable they'll actually run - how busy the airport will be, how many people are actually travelling.

A2 will serve Apperley Bridge station but will have a slightly shorter route than the 747 as it will miss out New Scarborough/ Kirk Lane, instead running via Harper Lane and Cemetery Road. Some changes to the evening times.
A3 will divert via The Green, Leeds Road, Kirk Lane and High Street. Some changes to the evening times.

Intriguing that they are short notice registrations, given that they have been wanging on about it on Twitter for months... I'm guessing there's been a lot of uncertainty about what timetable they'll actually run - how busy the airport will be, how many people are actually travelling. I'm not sure they actually are short-notice, the 42-day deadline for submission was only just over a week ago. I have a suspicion that the Licensing Office system still hasn't caught up to the change in notice period requirements (when it dropped from 56-days to 42-days for submission to the Licensing Office but with 28-days consultation with the Local Authorities first) so anything submitted between 56 & 42 days before start is still being marked as short-notice (this change was over 2-years ago so if that is the case it doesn't look good) - if it was short-notice it can't have been more than a week late (for 30th Aug change date it had to be in by 19th July and with remote working at the Licensing Office & the increased workload we know they are handling you would processing to be slower not faster than normal). From my logical outsiders perspective the immediate thought of the reason for using the Yorkshire Coastliner O-license was that this one had enough spare discs for the new operation whilst Harrogate & Keighley didn't, it's slightly surprising that the larger ones have less spare space than the smaller license but these things can happen as work comes and goes, other than that it does seem slightly strange given the relative distances for management if nothing else. There is nothing to stop an Operating Centre being on multiple O-Licenses so if it was simply to give Coastliner a Leeds outstation that would seem an unnecessary complication to require a York/Malton based manager to oversee a site at Idle so far away.

Hi dwarfer1979.
Please can I ask what you mean by “enough spare discs”. Is each operating company registered with a maximum number of services it can operate?
Thanks.

Hi dwarfer1979. Please can I ask what you mean by “enough spare discs”. Is each operating company registered with a maximum number of services it can operate? Thanks. Although you weren't asking me, yes. Each license held by a company has a maximum number of buses - they apply for a certain number and that can be granted, or it can be granted with a lower number, or it can be not granted. When companies want to expand further they can apply for either another license or to increase the number held under an existing license. When companies are punished for breaking the rules, a common punishment if they're not bad enough to be banned is to reduce the number of buses on the license either temporarily (for a specified amount of time) or permanently (effectively until they reapply and can show they've improved). They are allowed to own more buses than the license specifies, but can only have that many on the road at once.

Thanks Deerfold, it was just the term ‘discs’ that confused me. Must be industry speak.
I’ve never noticed the legal lettering on those “Pride of the North” deckers that Transdev have, I.e. which company. I guess they all have same Harrogate head office address for all operating companies in Transdev Blazefield group.
One question... if a bus labelled as one operating company operates a services registered to another, then does it have to display an “oh hire to” notice?

'Discs' refers to the blue or green operating disc displayed in the window (usually windscreen) of the vehicle. The name on this should match the address displayed on the side of the bus. If it doesn't (ie it's on loan to another company) then an "on hire" notice must be shown (or the address changed). Equally as you say if it is operating services under a different licence then it must be shown to be "on hire" to that company, though I'm not convinced that always happens with companies operating over more than one licence!

Keighley buses almost always have their legal lettering on the nearside behind the rear wheel, it's in very small writing and usually in a bit lighter colour than the rear of the bus, i.e. light green on dark green, I've been through my photo's and it doesn't show up too well in photos but you can usually just barely make out that there's something there even if you can't tell what it says.

CHANGES TO ARRIVA BUSES IN THE SELBY AREA
We have been advised by Arriva Yorkshire that they are making long term changes to their network in the Selby area from 31 August 2020. This will replace the temporary timetables operating because of the current COVID-19 situation.
The following is a summary of the changes.
• Services 6 and 7 Selby – Brayton – Selby are withdrawn and replaced by rerouted 405 Selby – Doncaster and 476 Selby – Pontefract services between Brayton and Abbots Road; and new services 64 Selby – Sherburn in Elmet and 164 Selby – Leeds between Thorpe Willoughby and Selby. The section of route between Brayton and Thorpe Willoughby along Barff Lane will no longer be served. • Services 402 and 403 Selby – Sherburn – Leeds are replaced by new services 64 Selby – Sherburn and 164 Selby – Sherburn - Leeds. There will be a service to Leeds every two hours and the section between Selby and Sherburn Crossroads remains hourly by the coordination of the new 64 and 164 services. • Service 405 Selby – Doncaster will be unlinked from Staynor Hall and replaced with a new dedicated Selby to Staynor Hall Service 5, this will improve the punctuality of the Staynor Hall leg. • Service 405 Selby – Doncaster is retimed to improve punctuality and reliability. It will have a new route around Askern and Sutton in South Yorkshire. And will also divert into Selby War Memorial Hospital grounds. • Service 476 Selby – Pontefract will be extended off-peak from Pontefract to Glasshoughton (Junction 32). It will also divert around Westbourne estate and into Selby War Memorial Hospital grounds. • There will be additional short 476 journeys from Brayton Moat Way to Selby to create an hourly headway around Westbourne estate. • Services 405 Selby – Doncaster and 476 Selby – Pontefract coordinate to provide a 30 minute headway between Brayton and Selby. Both of these services will extend to Abbots Road and the College; maintaining and enhancing the link provided by the current 6/7 services. • Service 415 York – Selby is retimed for to improve punctuality and reliability • Service 4 Selby – Goole is withdrawn. Service 3 Thorne to Selby provides a peak time journey along the corridor. • Most other services have been retimed to more accurately reflecting actual running times and so improve punctuality and reliability.
Please note that service 405 Selby – Doncaster will continue to operate as service 405a Selby – Hut Green and 405 Hut Green – Doncaster until the A19 at Chapel Haddlesey is re-opened.

I'm presuming the 3 is going to route through Airmyn and Rawcliffe then? IMO, pre covid the strongest section on the 403 has always been between Sherburn and Selby during the day, and even then it's not really picked up proper numbers until getting closer to Selby. I've always seen smaller numbers, maybe 15 at the most, on the Sherburn to Leeds section but then again I haven't obviously seen every journey so maybe a few could carry more meaningful numbers. Arriva have very sensibly taken into account that numbers will not recover on this route to pre-covid levels, especially at peak times as a large number of people will be able to work from home, prefer to shop from home etc. The numbers pre covid weren't that great before, not great enough to call the route a nice little earner, maybe a small profit maker at the most, so I can see why they've done this. By the looks of things, the 3 will be a single journey each way, and may be a school/college day only bus given the fact many workers will choose to work from home, but we will need to wait and see the detail.

I think this councilor should have clearly stated this for the few, if any, all year round users who would need to find alternative transport. I think catching what is in effect a school bus would be pretty embarrassing for them anyway, I'd rather walk lol.

All these months of anticipation and now it's nothing more than a glorified school bus, no use at all to the general public.
