Arriva are holding information sessions over the next few weeks regarding the proposed re-routings of the 167, 168, 444 and 446. It would see the 444 and 446 have a combined every 15 minute frequency, with each operating every 30 mins. This would involve rerouting the 444 to miss the Manor Road estate, operating up Styebank Lane instead to Haigh Road, and routing that way into Leeds. The 446 would turn down Styebank Lane into Rothwell, serve the town centre, the Manor Road estate before heading the rest of the 444 route into Leeds.
The 167 and 168 would also be rerouted in Woodlesford, with both operating (towards Leeds) from Holmsley Lane onto Oulton Lane, Quarry Hill, Holmsley Field Lane and North Lane to rejoin the existing route on Holmsley Lane.
What does everybody think of these route changes? I believe that it will cause the 446 duration to increase by about 15-20 minutes, while reducing the 444's by approximately 5 minutes, which would render the combined frequency quite pointless for those who live in earlier parts of the route ie Stanley, who would possibly arrive into Leeds on a 446 at the same time as the 444 that would leave from the same stop 15 minutes later.

Unless they're going to take the same amount of time it seems a bit daft as either the start or end is going to get an uneven service. I understand getting rid of the manor loop on the 444. I dont think the 446 needs to go via Rothwell whilst they're is still a good service between Woodlesford and Rothwell.

I dont think the 446 needs to go via Rothwell whilst they're is still a good service between Woodlesford and Rothwell. Isn't the only service the 4x daily 153? Which is a useful service absolutely and probably highlights the lack of Demand for many buses to Rothwell. Also, Rothwell isn't in much demand, even at peaks, for bus service to Leeds. The 444s don't get a lot of passengers on them between Rothwell and Wakefield or Leeds. Most people that bus to Leeds from Rothwell drive to Wood Lane, park there and get on any bus from there so either the 110, 444 or 446. Manor Loop I think could probably be served by a First route to Rothwell, which would be convenient for people who want to go somewhere else in Leeds as they wouldn't need to purchase a MetroDay and could just buy a First day ticket.

I had it in my head that 9/9A went through Woodlesford Yes however First only operate the service on late evenings and Sundays, and it doesn't go into the city centre where passengers can connect further into First's network.

Some of us are old enough to remember the number 7 being extended from Hunslet to Rothwell. It lasted a few years then disappeared. I find it difficult to understand the comment about people driving to Wood Lane. In my experience the Rothwell area has always had a high peak traffic though this has subsided in recent years there are still extra 444s and even 446s from Leeds in the evening peak. I'm sure they wouldn't run if they weren't required/made money, particularly as some work empty into Leeds.

As a regular user of the 444, the Manor Road estate is a pain, so bring it on I say!

I can't work out who these 444/446 changes are really meant to benefit. No one will really get a 15 min service

That would only be the case if they were timed at 15 minute intervals in Stanley. If they left Leeds 15 mins apart they would not be 15 mins apart by the time they reached Stanley.

Will they not be leaving Leeds South Parade and Wakefield Bus Station equally spaced at 15 min intervals?

Perhaps they will but see the original post. Just wondered... As I usually board in Wakefield Bus Station.
