Go North East have announced a new £1 fare for all single journeys between 7pm and 1am. Sounds like a good idea to me to stimulate growth and get people used to using buses again during a quiet part of the day.
The only issue I can see is that buses are usually at their grubbiest after the end of school so hopefully they are putting some resource into mid afternoon cleaning. If they're anything like the First Bradford buses I travelled on at teatime the other week people might want to wear hazmat suits!
I've often thought operators should offer £1 fares for short hops. I would be quite likely to spend £1 for the mile home from the railway station on a rainy evening. I absolutely will not pay £2.60 for a journey of three stops and will just choose to get wet instead. There can't be many fare paying passengers making such short journeys so what have they got to lose?
