The award includes tendered services currently operated by Plymouth plus other rendered services in Cornwall. Given the size of the the county of Cornwall I can only assume that an out station or two will be needed in the county otherwise dead.mileage between Plymouth and far parts of Cornwall will be excessive .

To answer the question the title of the thread poses.
Not likely to be the end of First in Cornwall though as they still have all of their commercial services and have retained the Truro Park & Ride contract. I have read elsewhere that they have lost approx 30 buses worth of work.
The spin coming from the council appears to indicate improvements to tendered services and new routes so I assume the quoted amount of additional buses needed by Go Ahead will be a mixture of improvements, First losses and presumably a number of losses from smaller independent operators.
Unless of course First take the opportunity to sell up, although this seems unlikely as I have seen profits for First in Cornwall quoted as being slightly higher than those achieved by both Go Cornwall/Plymouth Citybus and Stagecoach in Devon.

Considering how they’ve turned round the business in Cornwall, with all the new buses, now getting on to repainting older buses, good quality brands, maps, timetables, publicity etc, it’s a bit of a slap in the face for First.
It’ll be interesting how it works basically having two operators, will there be a reasonably priced ticket covering both operators for a start?

I understand that a FirstDay ticket costs £13 and a Ride Cornwall day ticket, covering First, Go-Ahead and trains, costs £18. www.firstgroup.com/cornwall/tickets/price-ticket-guide - pages 2-3 and 6-7
