Having seen these proposals my immediate reaction is "how long will this route survive"?. Will through ticketing be available to passengers changing buses in Oldham. I hope I am wrong but it does appear to be an excercise in running the route down leading to eventual withdrawal.

I am wondering whether there will be scope for Huddersfield depot to run the Monday-Saturday service or perhaps re-instate the joint operations between Oldham and Huddersfield depots. May get a better idea once the timetables are made public. Wouldn't be surprised if the last journey to/from Huddersfield is withdrawn. Maybe the same with the first weekday journey of the day too.

How many fare paying passengers travel from Huddersfield to Manchester, I can’t imagine it being many as it takes over 2 hours, and it’s a right drag being the local service out of Huddersfield, the local service from Saddleworth to Oldham and then the local service between Oldham and Manchester. The changes aren’t really about the 184, there are changes and reductions generally to the Oldham network, and this change is a knock on effect. The Oldham to Manchester service will now be the 83/84 operating every 5 minutes with nothing east of Uppermill running direct to Manchester.

The introduction of the Metrolink in Oldham has really affected Manchester - Oldham bus services, there have been gradual cuts over the years since the line opened. It’s far more efficient to travel the Oldham-Manchester leg on the tram than to take a bus all the way through from Huddersfield or Saddleworth, and you can transfer painlessly at Mumps with a tram every six minutes.

Service 184 interworks with service 180 (Oldham-Greenfield) with 4 buses required.
Therefore if this ever did pass to First Huddersfield, it’d be a 4 hour round trip and like the 588, a service entirely outside of WY being operated.

Rider5521. This is a route that has been operating with low floor buses since at least 2012(the time I moved into Meltham). It is therefore not a route that provides a link that would otherwise "not exist". My comments were an observation concerning S Pennine's current vehicle policy. I will await to observe the first day of operation to see if the service is operated by one of their usual vehicle or a vehicle suitable for an off peak service which,if you look at the timetable, is operated without a break for about seven hours. Read the message again....your contributor was slagging off Kevin for running "unprofessional looking services", most in the main commercial at his and his companies risk, and do present links that would not otherwise exist. The Meltham tender was not relevant to my response and did not state it would be operated by one of the vehicles so depised by the original contributor. Knowing Metro like I did it will be specified as low floor and the incoming operator will have to comply. Makes my blood boil when someone is working their socks off to provide something, to be slated in this way. The community are very satisfied with the personal service provided. As stated before modern transport enthusiasm isn't about celebrating what's out there, it's just slating... It is shame that an operation serving the community filling in essential lifelines in transport is slated in such a derogatory fashion, from what I’ve seen, read and experienced the so called “professionals” operating services across Leeds, Kirklees and Calderdale could learn a lot from South Pennine. You sir might want to travel on some of our supposed professional operators with their filthy dirty, down at heel fleets driven by equally demoralised staff and see which one meets the needs of its customers best! Hundreds of satisfied customers, fantastically engaged staff community groups applauding their forward thinking approach I can only assume that the option has been formed from an armchair rather than actual fact and a roadside view! The individual spouting such drivel does little to enhance the average enthusiast to such organisations indeed the post shows a clear ignorance of actually reality!

The 963 Garnet Wharf service due to start on Monday 28 October has been postponed as the road through the new development site is not ready
