A tiger solo was completely destroyed by fire this morning in Halifax, it was on service 533, don’t know any fleet details etc , but there is a picture of the bus on fire in the Huddersfield examiner

Is their a common mechanical fault with the solos causing them to overheat/catch fire? Or is it down to poor maintenance?

Was it an Elland depot solo on the 571 that Tiger operate on an evening or an Idle depot solo???

Poor maintenance And you have proof of this poor maintenance do you, I suspect not so best keep to keep quiet! in fact solos have had issues across the country a recent fire destroyed a Stagecoach Solo in Sussex a broken fuel pipe was suspected, unfortunately the compact nature of the solo engine compartment does not help when things go wrong

Just look at the number of solo's operating a great amount of mileage for operators of all sizes around the UK. They are used on routes with difficult access, tight operating margins and council contracts serving places that would have no route if the solo(or something similar) was not available. Three or four fires occur recently and the theories start:- poor maintainance, bad driving or any other reason that will create an eye catching headline(especially in the newspapers). At least nobody was seriously injured or killed in these few fires

The photo used by the T&A (on the front page, but bizarrely not with the report itself) showed it sat in what looked to be one of the numbered (ex-coach) stands, which is where i caught the 656 from the other day, so presumably an Idle Solo.

An engine room fire can be caused by a hose splitting and spilling oil onto a hot surface; its something that happens and is not poor maintenance.

YT’s fleet is extremely tatty and simply not looked after

Not sure how you can say a fire is down to poor maintenance based on the "tattyness" of buses.
Some of First's panels are battered, seat moquettes dont match etc & I'd class that as tatty. They've lost how many to fires?
No one other than the YT engineering team know the answer to the cause, so think the slanderous comments should stop until they've commented.

YT’s fleet is extremely tatty and simply not looked after YT do the best they can with what they've got and actually the vast majority of the YT fleet is NOT TATTY only the odd motor. There is/was/will be companies with vehicles in worse condition. If you actually look back over the last 9 or 10+ years that YT has been running the conditions of the fleet have greatly improves since Centerbus days.

Elland based solo 322 suffered an engine fire today in King Cross, from what I could see of the damage I would say it’s a write off.

I’m sure they have a fire about once a year
