From the BBC business website.
Train operator Northern's six-carriage long services in and out of Leeds station have been delayed by two years, BBC News has learned. The longer trains were to be introduced at the end of this year but will now not enter service until late 2021. The delay is because longer platforms at Leeds will not be ready in time After a disastrous 2018, Northern is under pressure to improve the reliability of its services and deal with overcrowding. It has now emerged that the much longer services into Leeds on the busiest routes at peak times, which were planned as part of a timetable shake-up for this December, will not materialise until the end of 2021. But Northern still plans to start phasing in a £500m fleet of new short trains from this spring. And despite much scepticism amongst passengers, the company still insists it will get rid of its hugely unpopular and rickety Pacer trains, which date back to the early 1980's, by the end of this year. Why the delay? It will not be possible to bring the longer services in sooner because several platforms at Leeds station will not be lengthened in time to accommodate the longer trains. The work is part of a £160m upgrade to the station, carried out by Network Rail, which also includes the creation of an entirely new platform '0'. THE FULL STORY CAN BE FOUND AT:-www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47474956It will be interesting to see on which lines these units will now be used or will they just gather dust in siding somewhere.

it’s a bit of a misleading story. The original plan was to have 3 car 331s and at peak time run 2 together as 6 car trains but can’t be accommodated in Leeds as the article says. The new plan is that the 3 car trains will now run in the north west till 2021 and then will come to the east as planned. Until that time 2021 Yorkshire will get the 4 car variant and run as now. At the moment in May the Leeds to Doncaster Line will transfer to the new 331 trains subject to crew training

Answering the comment by Welshman:- 1) Leeds Station is a hub serving serving a large area of the UK.(Aberdeen, London, Plymouth, Birmingham, Carlisle, Glasgow and Bristol to name but a few. 2) People work within the city and need to travel to and from the city via the station. 3) It is a good place to work/visit. 4) It would appear that you live some distance from Leeds otherwise you would know where trains starting terminating or passing through Leeds serve.

Oh dear! I didn't realise a sense of humour was banned on this forum. I was born and raised in Halifax and spent the first 30 years of my life in and around Leeds, Bradford & Huddersfield, seeing Leeds Central close and what was Leeds City grow enormously since then. I am very well aware of the importance of Leeds. It's just that the heading of this thread, with its obvious typo, made me smile.

Yes, typing on a mobile does not encourage good spelling and grammar but oldies like me just have to get used to it. Humour is often in short supply so it is to be recommended. Perhaps there should be a 'tongue in cheek' emoji?
