Going off topic a bit, but relevant to the delay issue, If it's not a legal requirement, then I wonder why First (possibly only in Leeds) are insisting on drivers wearing them? Personally I wouldn't as I like the freedom and if passengers don't need one, and drivers elsewhere don't need one, then there's no need really.

Anything new after 2009 should be fitted with a seatbelt, it is the law that if fitted, it must be worn.

On Arriva's buses I've never seen the drivers wear seatbelts on the 62 reg pulsars unless the seatbelts are hidden, as I can't see the drivers wearing them.

I imagine it’s company policy and will have been agreed with relevant trades unions

Arriva's vehicles are not specified with a driver's seatbelt. Other operators also don't specify driver's seatbelts on new vehicles for stagecarriage

Have been reading info on yutong specifications and it states that they weigh 13 tons.I thought that they were trying to make buses lighter. For the capacity of the vehicle this seems a lot and the energy needed to propel it and road wear and tear.

It's the batteries, all battery-electric vehicles are substantially heavier than their internal combustion equivalents. It used to be much worse as the weight of the batteries used to compromise the total capacity possible with the vehicle, it has improved recently but there is still a significant weight penalty.

Are these roadside/vehicle pantograph charged or is it a cable?
Nothing stopping them being used on PR1 if required to get mileage and familiarity boosted.

Familiarisation will take what, 2-3 days tops?
Some of comments on that page are amusing

The oldest buses fitted with seatbelts from new are the 09 plate Volvo B9’s and B7’s. That’s 2009, only 12 years ago. Some older buses have had them fitted if they have had a replacement seat e.g. 66753

Unfortunately Newtons 2nd law states that force = mass * acceleration. So for a given acceleration, if you increase the mass, you must increase the force. So dragging these batteries about must use energy. Not so green now are they? (OK some can be regenerated by braking, but a lot will be lost by resistance, in the tyres and with wind, I would have thought.)

Some going that They managed a trip to Grassington and back on the Dalesbus which I thought was impressive. Indeed. At the start of the season, they used it as a duplicate between Ilkley and Grassington only, then put it on the full route from Bradford (including journey over from Leeds) and recently its done the full route including travel from Leeds AND worked at least one of the short returns between Grassington and Ilkley in between. Given there is no charging equipment (as far as I know) in Ilkley or Grassington termini, if the Yutongs are able to do Leeds - Bradford - Ilkley - Grassington - Ilkley - Grassington - Ilkley - Bradford - Leeds on one charge with no top up in between, that is bloody impressive. (* There are 2 return journeys between Grassington and Ilkley in between the arrival from Bradford and the return to Bradford, so if it works that one too in addition to the above, then that's even more impressive).

If that route is regularly worked by a Yutong I could be persuaded to use it next year.
