Unfortunately the people behind the petition appear to have no concept of reality in the world of bus operations or in the world of public sector procurement. There is absolutely no way that NYCC could turn down Arriva's bid after they have signed the contract (or even before that) on the basis of a public petition, and instead give the contract to a company whose bid offers worse value for money. If either company should be disqualified on the basis of past performance, it would be more likely to be Transdev, given the dire reliability that they had on the route, although since they got the new buses that seems to have been resolved.

In my experience the general bus using public never see further than the end of there nose which leads to these silly petitions. I wouldn’t mind but the wording of it is completely untrue and clearly done by someone who has no idea what there talking about.

Knowing how poorly people remember what happened when the author of it probably thinks the Darts were Arrivas!

i prefer Transdev running the service and Arriva running the sunday route Why do you prefer the route to be split between the two? It just makes it more expensive for regular passengers who can't use their season tickets on a Sunday ... and if you want to keep the Saturday evening service split as well then it makes it more expensive for most people who don't have the luxury of free passes.

The question was why do you prefer it to be split?

Arriva already run the Sunday service as 42S Yes, that's the point. It means that regular passengers who buy a season ticket to travel during the week can't use it on the Saturday evening or Sunday service, which is really unhelpful. I can understand people who want the route to be run by one company or the other, but not people who like the current messy split.

New registrations from the same date aside from the 42 are:- Arriva 6 and 7 Selby-Selby Arriva 4 (4, X4) and 401 (401, 400, 641) Selby-Google Procters 144 Bedale-Masham

That's only five buses needed in service if it's true, which is a huge drop, and if no alternative services are put in place would leave the following villages with no buses at all, having had at least 3 buses a day, 6 days a week up until now: Aldborough St John, Bolton-on-Swale, Brompton-on-Swale, Cleasby, Dalton-on-Tees, East Cowton, Gilling West, Great Fencote, Great Langton, Great Smeaton, Kirkby Fleetham, Manfield, Melsonby, North Cowton, Sandhutton, Scruton, South Otterington, Thornton-le-Beans and Yafforth ... and Catterick village, Middleton Tyas, Moulton and Scorton will lose any viable service. (The change to the 144 is that some journeys will operate via Exelby, Burneston and Carthorpe omitting Burrill and Thornton Watlass, according to NYCC) Arriva's changes are minor. On the 6/7, the 1525 is no longer running on schooldays. The X8 is going back to starting at Pollington, not Askern. The first two journeys each way on the 401 are now running 5 minutes earlier. In other news, it's great to see that KLCH are running a Summer Sunday service on the 580/581 this year, and the 881 is running between Malham and Slaidburn.

What baffles me is why Procters haven't reinstated the Kirkby Fleetham-Marne Barracks link on the 54 since the A1M works were completed removing the westbound detour via Leeming Bar.

What baffles me is why Procters haven't reinstated the Kirkby Fleetham-Marne Barracks link on the 54 since the A1M works were completed removing the westbound detour via Leeming Bar. Funding cuts. The 54 wasn't cut back because of the roadworks, it was because NYCC reduced the funding for the 54 and 55 to pay for just one bus running on the two routes, whereas the old timetable needed two buses. By shortening it to just run between Northallerton and Kirkby Fleetham, they can still run 3 journeys each way on the 54 and 55 – the extra 35–40 minutes each way needed to run the 54 all the way through to Richmond would mean reducing one or both routes to 2 journeys each way, and while that's better for people travelling between Northallerton and Richmond, it isn't so good for the people in the villages along the route.

From 21 April:
Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire will introduce a Sunday and Bank Holiday service on routes 580 (Skipton - Settle) and 581 (Settle - Kirkby Lonsdale) as well as a seasonal Sunday & Bank Holiday service 881 (Malham - Slaidburn).

I didn't realise the 0805 X54 Marne Barracks-Richmond and 1545 Richmond School-Marne Barracks had been removed, the 54 and X54 being shown together on one timetable seemed to imply they would be rejoined at some point. With the new retail development in Catterick Garrison/Town it's a shame that Arriva haven't bridged the gap with regular journeys to Catterick village.

These links are session links, created on the fly by the website. They'll expire after a little while. I've attached the timetable for future reference.
