I did hear they were going to do a Saturday. First day of schools holidays for some... Public support has ebbed away for the guards in light of the timetable chaos. I know many people who no longer commute by train because of the disruption, as a huge advocate of rail, I`m in despair that all the good work done in recent years to get people on trains is being undone.

I know many people who no longer commute by train because of the disruption, as a huge advocate of rail, I`m in despair that all the good work done in recent years to get people on trains is being undone. It is frustrating that the good work Serco/Abellio put in over their 11 year tenure has been destroyed, although the strikes would have happened irrespective of operator as the unions are against current government policy. One thing to point out is the talks which are being held on Tuesday involves senior people at both the RMT and Northern, and with other operators making progress with the DOO issue this could be a sign Northern are edging closer to a solution. Once the new trains arrive, and new services are introduced I suspect passenger numbers will begin to increase and let's hope lessons are learnt from the May timetable change to ensure journey times are more realistic

I hope both sides go in with open minds and it isn’t like previous talks where neither side will budge and talks are over within an hour.

This Saturday 15/9/18 there will be some changes to the strike timetable as some of the temporary guards/managers have decided that they no longer want to work on Saturday. There are no northern services from Bradford Forster Square at all. The Leeds- Barnsley- Sheffield (fast) is hourly, but there's no service at local stops on the route.

This Saturday 22/09/18 there are some changes to the strike timetables. The train service from BD Forster Square is partly reinstated (routes N39, N40 and N46) with train service to Ilkley & back 0747-1646, but there will be some very big gaps between trains. The service from BD Interchange is a bit too complicated to fully list but there appears to be: Hourly buses to Todmorden & Blackburn (daytime) plus other trains to Halifax & Hebden Bridge (all services call at Low Moor!). Hourly trains to Bramley & York (daytime) plus other trains to Leeds only.
Leeds North West - Full service will operate with some services running to/from Bradford Forster Square Calder Valley - Partial train service reinstatement between Leeds and Hebden Bridge via Bradford and Leeds and Rochdale via Brighouse; additionally, they will also be that solitary one service to/from Manchester. A bus service will run between Bradford and Accrington; supplementing the train service. As standard on Strikes days, no service to / from Huddersfield via Bradford. Leeds - Harrogate - York - Horsforth Shuttles reinstated Huddersfield and Barnsley - Train services reinstated Barnsley - Chapeltown - Meadowhall (local) - Train service reinstated Worksop route - reduced strike service Wolds Coast route - reduced strike service Huddersfield - Wakefield - no service

Regardless of views on driver only trains, I personally wish to see guards on trains as do most of the travelling public, we have reached a situation where people will leave the rail network in droves and won`t return! I no longer use Northern, the timetable changes in May ruined my journey plans and the strikes every Saturday were the last straw. I`m not unusual in that respect, many of my friends and colleagues are doing the same. When you consider Serco spent years improving Northern and increasing patronage and Arriva have killed it overnight! The penalty fares scheme is penalising innocent people and has been a public relations disaster!

Totally agree. Old northern built up a pretty good reputation and Arriva have totally ruined it for staff and passengers

Totally agree. Old northern built up a pretty good reputation and Arriva have totally ruined it for staff and passengers I'm not in favour of it, but the removal of guards was in the government's franchise document. Any bidder who planned not to do it would have been very unlikely to be chosen to run the franchise.

Arriva have had a lot of decisions thrust upon them compared to their predecessors but they way they’ve handled it all hasn’t been good

Arriva have had a lot of decisions thrust upon them compared to their predecessors but they way they’ve handled it all hasn’t been good I thought Arriva would make a decent job of Northern given their experience of other franchises. From what I've read about the ongoing industrial dispute both Northern and the RMT are acting unprofessionally so I can forsee strikes every Saturday until at least the end of the year (and probably more prolonged at Christmas.)

Even if the old company kept the Northern franchise, the Government was adamant that Driver Operated Only trains would come in during the time of the franchise. Would the old company have handled it differently or similar to how Arriva are handling it? Who knows?

I’m definitely all in favour of Driver only trains. Having lived in the south, using the trains to commute into London, I can’t foresee why we still need guards on trains up here. 9 times out of 10 they can’t even be bothered to come round selling tickets (my local station doesn’t have a machine on the Platform) and so I end up having to queue in Leeds to buy a ticket to exit the station.
The sooner the strike action ends, the better.

The RMT have now announced strike action for every Saturday up to and including the 29th December There will be a revised strike day timetable for December, which will see many routes abandoned in order to supply a consistent service on fewer routes. Main points Generally trains will run from about 8 am but the last trip on each route will be around 17:00 (5 pm). North Bradford electrics No service at Bradford Forster Square, Frizinghall, Apperley Bridge, Kirkstall Forge or Baildon, apart from 06:30 LNER. Bentham/Settle lines Limited bus service but only one trip to Lancaster and back Calder Valley Leeds - Bradford - Halifax (Hebden Bridge) approx half-hourly No service Hebden Bridge - Rochdale (Burnley) Huddersfield No services on any route Wakefield No services on any route

Anyone know why there's the single bus service from Skipton to Leeds at 2035? Seems odd there's no connection from the bus services from Lancaster and Carlisle except this bus nearly 2 hours later.
