News coming in from the South Yorkshire forum that Yorkshire Tiger have been successful in being awarded a number of contracts from SYPTE in the Barnsley and Rotherham areas. These services are currently operated by Wellglade owned (TM Travel) and Stagecoach Yorkshire. Wellglade will be entering the West Yorkshire area for the 1st time I believe, since they took over TM Travel a few years back, with service 29 from Sheffield extended through to Holmfirth, replacing current service 25. Did the 29 still operate to Upper Denby when TM first operated it?

That's rich considering the recent "fine" by the traffic commisioners for failing to operate services in West Yorkshire. Will a local base in the S Yorkshire area be established given that the dead mileage between Waterloo or Elland to S Yorkshire and back will be horrendous.

Quick calculation on the back of an envelope suggests about 9 buses of work perhaps. It's not that far to Barnsley or Penistone from Waterloo.
Question is will they acquire decent buses or just draft in some life expired stock from Arriva North East that never sees an orange paint brush.

A new home for some or all of the Flying Tiger Scanias that are due to be replaced perhaps?

If it's tenders it'll be probably solo or small dart work won't it?

The age and type of vehicle to be used on the routes should be included in the tender documentation issued to interested operators by South Yorkshire. It could include hybrids, electric, new or vehicle less than 5 years old for example. Then again if nothing is mentioned about vehicle types to be used then look out for old cast offs from elsewhere.

Interestingly the 29 will be cut back to start at Chapeltown instead of Sheffield.

I think it's 6 or 7: 7 - 1 bus 23 - 1 bus 72 - 2 buses 203 - 1 bus 220 - 1 bus Bear in mind the new tenders will be different to the existing ones.

Yorkshire Tiger started out with good intentions here in Leeds, with smart orange buses but sadly it ended up as a dumping ground for elderly Arriva cast offs, hope you get better kit.

That's also what happened with Elland, the entire fleet was modern and orange.
Then they had numerous fires including the big depot one, started using double decks, often in Arriva livery, then single decks in Arriva livery, and the fleet looks scruffy generally and is much older.
A shame nothing substantial was ever brought in to replace the fire damaged buses, as many of the most modern buses were lost in that, replaced by the oldest buses.

They have one of their solos parked up in Barnsley for route learning up until the 29th. Chances are it'll be just solos, possibly enviro 200's if they even have those as most of the routes will just carry fresh air as they do with stagecoach and did with tates

If S Yorkshire PTE is prepared to pay for YT to carry fresh air then it is the fault of the PTE

A shame nothing substantial was ever brought in to replace the fire damaged buses, as many of the most modern buses were lost in that, replaced by the oldest buses. Elland and Leeds, started out as Centrebus, at that time, with NO involvement from Arriva. Waterloo and Honley, were owned under Centrebus Holdings, with Arriva having a minority share in it. Centrebus, then decided to withdraw from West Yorkshire, and that's when Arriva bought Elland and Leeds, took complete control of Waterloo and Honley, named it Yorkshire Tiger, and made it, a LOW COST UNIT, obviously a low cost unit, would have very few brand new vehicles. Plus, they've had their management issues, which, now seems to be stable, so, let's give them time to steady the ship.

The Elland fleet was the most modern of all the depots before the fire with all Solos being 2009 or newer except for two from 2006. All were painted orange with Calder Cubs branding. There was 5 double decks and 3 of them were in Yorkshire Tiger livery.
All buses brought in since then have been on average 15 years old and run in the wrong livery for far too long after they are acquired.
