Can we change the topic title? I was going to start a new topic in time for the December 2019 timetable change but there were many relevant posts already up by then.

Took advantage of the unbelievable good value 10p tickets today from Halifax - York. It also gave me chance on the return journey to experience one of the new 195 class. Plus points - the carriages are bright and airy, information is improved and the superior acceleration means the end to end journey times should be more reliable. A good example of this is we left Leeds 6 mins late at 1556 and still arrived in Bradford Interchange at 1614 ready for the departure at 1616. Minus points - probably lacking the 'wow' factor from outside, the ride is rather bumpy over points and the seats lack padding. However, overall these new trains should ensure an overall improved service. Following improvement work at Bradford Interchange (and dropping of some Calder Valley stops), trains from York are speeded up and are timed to leave later from Leeds at 57 then from Bradford Interchange at 17 past. So was it actually 1 minute early?

Do we know what the reasoning behind this is? Shortage of stock, shortage of staff, lack of capacity on the lines?

A couple of platforms at Leeds are been closed to allow platform 0 to be built so theres no space for some trains to stable for long periods of time

www.northernrailway.co.uk/travel/timetablesPlease note that the timetables for the North Bradford Electrics, the diesels via Bentham or Settle and the Harrogate Line will be reissued from 17 February. Presumably there are platform closures in connection with the Leeds Station (North West end, platforms 0-5) remodeling. There doesn't appear to be any timetable changes apart from as detailed above.

Surely some 144s must be based out of Neville Hill? Wikipedia say they are all out of Heaton depot in the North East but I've taken a lot recently around Leeds and it would seem inconvenient to position them down from the NE every day?

They are allocated to Heaton.
I believe they return to Heaton for exams but in the meantimes will be stabled at various points in the Yorkshire area depending on what diagrams they have been on that day.

Many trains have lost their "by arriva" wording below "northern" on their insignia.

It surprises me how busy the 10:32 is to Heysham Port on a Sunday, surely not everyone is catching a ferry? Quite a mix of passengers with a lot of tourists - many people were ticketed the full route

One thing I am happy about, I am glad quite a few of the pacers are getting preserved which is nice. I will miss the 144's when they go, as I they're really good trains. Unlike certain ex mersey rail 142s.
