Balfour Beatty have announced that Blackpool Airport will close for good on October 15th. The Airport has been making losses for some time and Balfour have failed to attract a buyer before the deadline today so they've said it will close for good, however I doubt they'll turn a last minute bid away. Jet 2 have said their Blackpool flights will operate from Manchester from Friday 17th.

End of an era www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-29615965A Vulcan Bomber once guarded the entrance to the airport When the last passenger flight takes off from Blackpool Airport, it will mark the end of an era for a seaside airstrip which has tasted showbiz razzamatazz but also tragedy. Although it will continue to operate flights to the Irish Sea gas rigs, and see corporate clients come and go, its days as a regional passenger airport appear to be over. The site's aviation history dates back more than a century and in its early years, Blackpool hosted regular air shows, an RAF presence and local pleasure flights between the wars.
