Good morning people, are yer ready for part 17 or do you wanna go sunbathing? Well I doubt work was on yer minds on a day like this!
650/1 Bradford - Canal Road - Valley Road - Shipley - Otley Road - Guiseley Bradford Road/White Cross - A65 - Burley in Wharfedale Main Street - A65 - Wheatley Lane then 650 via Valley Drive and 651 via Bolling Road to Ilkley. Monday to Saturday from early morning to early evening these 2 ran half hourly combined (hourly each) with an additional morning school journey from Ilkley to Greengates via Guiseley, the A65 and Apperley Lane as well as a 652 Ilkley to Bradford thrown in during the morning peak. From early evening they then went down to every 30/60 mins combined using a mix of individual frequencies as follows. The 650 from Bradford after 17.55 ran at 18.55, 19.25, 21.25 and 22.55 with 651 at 18.25, 20.25 and 22.25. In the opposite direction individual frequencies were stranger still with both running hourly each until 19.50 (651) then a 650 at 20.20 and 2 651s at 21.20 and 22.20. On Sundays towards Ilkley they both ran hourly each with 650s starting later than 651s meaning the half hourly combined frequency didn't start until late morning, towards Bradford they ran 2 hourly each until late morning when the half hourly frequency (hourly each) started. The half hourly frequency ran ran through to early evening when a 2 hourly frequency commenced until late.
652/3/4 as follows
652/4 Bradford - Manningham - Frizinghall - Shipley - Otley Road - Guiseley Bradford Road/White Cross - Menston Bradford Road (652) or Menston Village (654) - Otley 653 as 652/4 to Manningham then Bradford Road - Otley Road - Shipley then via 652 route to Otley then Pool - A658 - Weeton - A658 - Pannal - Harrogate. The 652 ran occasional journeys during the morning peak to bulk up the morning peak 653/4 frequency (one from Bradford to Shipley, one from Ilkley as well as one from Otley via Esholt), and ran evenings and Sundays. The 653/4 ran hourly each half hourly combined from early morning until early evening with a couple of 654 extras thrown in during the evening peak. From early evening the 652/3 ran half hourly combined until late evening towards Bradford (see note) however the 652 finished mid evening from Bradford with 653s running on every 30/40 min until late. Note the last journey from Harrogate to Bradford had a 50 min gap from the previous journey with no short Otley to Bradford journey in between. On Sundays the 653s ran hourly from early to mid morning then the 652/3 ran half hourly combined until evening when the same arrangements as stated above ran until late except for one of the late 653s which terminated in Otley instead of Harrogate.

Part 18, rule of the day, never read and type what you've read whilst talking on the phone, you make mistakes. The 652/3/4 entry above has had to be edited due to errors regarding evening service frequency.
655/755 Leeds Bus Station - Headingley - West Park - Horsforth Alexandra Road/Old Ball - Rawdon Town Street - Yeadon Centre - Henshaw Lane/Westfield/A65 (755) or Queensway/Guiseley Green (655) - Guiseley Otley Road/White Cross/Bradford Road - Otley Road - Shipley - Otley Road - Bradford Road - Manningham - Bradford. These 2 ran every half hour combined (hourly each) from early until late Monday to Saturday with the first journey towards Bradford starting at Rawdon and the last from Leeds finishing at Rawdon. On Sundays it was only the 655 what ran and this ran hourly from early until late with the same short first and last workings as above together with the last working from Bradford terminating at Rawdon and not Leeds like Mon to Sat. Just to add, the short first working from Rawdon to Bradford on Sundays ran 2 hours earlier than the rest of the timetable. Now if I'm right, with shorts starting at or finishing at Rawdon, then either Rawdon had an outstation for West Yorkshire buses or Bradford and Leeds West Yorkshire depots jointly ran the service.
656 Bradford or Keighley/Bingley/Saltaire - Shipley - Otley Road - Bradford Road Guiseley - High Royds. This ran on Saturday afternoons only as a special service for visitors to High Royds. One journey ran from Bradford with a separate journey from Keighley almost at the same time, 2 hours later both buses ran back to Bradford or Keighley. Both journeys were deemed liable to suspension if not required.
670 (see also 671 below) Leeds Bus Station - Kirkstall - Leeds and Bradford Road - Rodley - Calverley Stores - Greengates New Line - Harrogate Road - Bolton Road - Canal Road - Bradford. This service ran half hourly Mon to Friday from early morning until the evening peak with the first journey in each direction running 45/50 mins earlier than the main timetable. During the evening peak, the frequency increased to every 20 mins. In addition, a 671 journey ran on a morning via Calverley to Bradford, and in the evening peak 2 671s ran from Bradford, both serving Calverley and one serving other parts of the 670 route to Leeds. See next entry for full 671 details. On Saturdays a half hourly service ran from early morning (with the same gap as above for the first journey each way) until late afternoon. Evenings Monday to Saturday and all day Sundays from early until late an hourly service ran with the last bus from Leeds running 80 mins later than the previous bus.
671 Horsforth Train Station/Centre/Fleece - New Road (Ring Road) - Rodley roundabout - Calverley then as 670. This service ran Monday to Friday only. One morning journey ran from Horsforth to Bradford during the morning peak and one evening journey returned back to Horsforth station with another journey running to Horsforth Fleece then extending to Leeds via the A65.
673 Bradford - Bolton Road - Pullan Avenue - Harrogate Road - Apperley Bridge - Woodlands Hospital. This ran Monday to Sunday with one evening return journey Mon to Fri, and one afternoon return journey on Saturdays and Sundays. This service was deemed liable to suspension if not required.
674/5 Bradford as 673 to Apperley Bridge/Woodlands Drive then Apperley Lane - Rawdon Roundabout (JCT) - Harrogate Road - then 675 via High Street Yeadon, Kirk Lane, A65 to Westfield Greenlea Ave and 674 via - Leeds Bradford Airport, Harrogate Road (A658), Pool, A658, Weeton, A658, Pannal, Harrogate. Monday to Saturday both services ran half hourly combined most of the time between Bradford and Rawdon from early morning until late evening with journeys continuing hourly each to Westfield/Harrogate most of the day. Some additional journeys also ran on both services either on part of each route or the whole of each route at various times e.g. extra peak workings to/from Harrogate or Pool on the 674, extra peak workings from Yeadon on the 675 and Saturday afternoon buses to/from Westfield. Evenings Monday to Saturday the last bus from Bradford to Harrogate ran at 19.45 and from Harrogate at 21.00 with all other journeys being short workings between Bradford and LBA including an additional working to fill in a gap between 675s. 675s on an evening to/from Westfield ran hourly until mid evening with a last working from Bradford nearly 90 mins later each way than the previous. On Sunday mornings, the frequency between Bradford and Rawdon was every 30-60 mins with 2 journeys on the 674 terminating/starting from at LBA and 1 running to/from Harrogate, the 675 continued hourly to Westfield. From lunch time both services ran through to/from Westfield/Harrogate every hour combining half hourly between Bradford and Rawdon, Sunday evenings saw the same arrangements as Mon to Sat except the last working to/from Westfield mentioned above didn't operate.
730 Leeds Bus Station - A65 via Horsforth, Rawdon and Guiseley - High Royds Hospital. This service ran Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday however was not liable to suspension if not required unlike the Bradford services. PM return journeys ran on each day with some additional journeys on Wednesday and Saturdays towards High Royds only.
731/2 Leeds - A65 through Kirkstall, Horsforth, Rawdon and Guiseley to White Cross then 731 via Menston Village to Otley and 732 via Menston Bradford Road to Otley. Monday to Saturday from early morning until early evening these 2 services ran half hourly combined, mostly hourly each with a not quite half hourly frequency between Menston Fox and Otley due to the diversion through Menston Village. I say mostly half hourly combined because on a morning towards Leeds most journeys ran as 731 every half hour. A 731 also replaced a 732 journey mid afternoon Mon to Fri with that 732 running on Saturdays only. On Sundays the 731 ran from early morning until late evening every hour with the last bus from Leeds running as a 732.
733 as 732 to Bradford Road Menston then Burley Road - Burley in Wharfedale - Ilkley Road - Leeds Road - Ilkley. Monday to Friday this ran every half hour from early morning until early evening then every hour until the late with the last bus from Leeds having a 90 min gap from the previous bus. On Sundays the frequency was hourly all day until late.
735/6 as 732 until Rawdon (Cross Roads) then via Harrogate Road - Yeadon High Street then 735 via Queensway, Netherfield Road/Guiseley Station and Chevin End to Otley Road/Bradford Road Menston and the 736 via Henshaw Lane and the A65 through Guiseley to Otley Road/Bradford Road then both via Bradford Road to Otley. Monday to Saturday from early morning until early evening both services ran hourly each (half hourly combined) with some peak extras Mon to Fri. Evenings and all day Sundays service 735 ran every hour and no 736s ran.

655/755 Leeds Bus Station - Headingley - West Park - Horsforth Alexandra Road/Old Ball - Rawdon Town Street - Yeadon Centre - Henshaw Lane/Westfield/A65 (755) or Queensway/Guiseley Green (655) - Guiseley Otley Road/White Cross/Bradford Road - Otley Road - Shipley - Otley Road - Bradford Road - Manningham - Bradford. Ran from Leeds depot (Kirkstall I think) but terminated at Rawdon as a quick way back to the depot by midnight .

Sorry to correct but it won't have been Kirkstall as that didn't exist as a depot in 1980, Headingley was the nearest depot to the route and that was a Metro depot rather than a West Yorkshire one. I think Kirkstall originally was an engineering department for Metro, West Yorkshire had their Leeds depot on Roseville Road.

Part 19, just to add all the 7** series routes ran from Vicar Lane bus station along with the 655, sorry I didn't clarify that before.
741/2 Leeds - York Road - Seacroft - Thorner - Bramham - Clifford - Boston Spa then 742 to Tadcaster and 741 to Thorpe Arch/Wetherby. Between Leeds and Thorner, counting through journeys and shorts to/from Thorner only, the combined frequency Monday to Saturday from early morning until early evening was mostly every 30 mins with peak time extras, and a couple of gaps reducing the frequency down to hourly for a couple of hours in the morning from Leeds. The 742 ran on to/from Tadcaster a handful of times a day with 741s running on to/from Wetherby every 30 to 60 mins until early evening. 2 morning 741s ran from Leeds to Thorpe Arch with an evening peak journey from Wetherby diverting via Thorpe Arch. Evenings Monday to Saturday a 60 to 90 minute frequency operated on route 741 to/from Wetherby. On Sundays the 741 ran hourly to/from Wetherby during the day with the frequency reduced on Sunday evenings to as low as 2 hourly. No shorts operated between Leeds and Thorner evenings and Sundays.
743 Leeds - York Road - Barwick Road - Barwick - Aberford 744 Leeds - York Road - Cross Gates - Pendas Fields - Barwick - Aberford 745 Leeds - York Road - Scholes - Cross Gates - York Road - Leeds 746 reverse of 745 747 Leeds - York Road - Scholes - Barwick Road - Seacroft - Leeds 749 reverse of 747 with a few journeys running from Barwick
As the timetable for these services is a bit complex (they all appear on the one timetable and at peak times don't have a regular service pattern) I'll save myself some time and scan the timetable at a later date.
753/4 Leeds - Headingley - West Park - Butcher Hill - Horsforth Broadway/Alexander Road/Old Ball - Rawdon Town Street then 753 to Rawdon Harrogate Road/Co Op and 754 via Canada Road, Harrogate Road, Yeadon High Street (upper bit only) and Cemetery Road to Yeadon Hawthorne Road. Each service ran hourly from early morning to early evening Monday to Saturday and combined to half hourly between Leeds and Rawdon Town Street.
757 Leeds - Harrogate Road to Wigton Lane - Wike Ridge Lane - Wike. 2 return journeys ran off peak during the day on Thursdays only.
759 Leeds - Kirkstall Road - Leeds and Bradford Road - Rodley Lane - Coal Hill Lane - Farsley Town Street - Farsley Gardens. This ran Monday to Saturday only every half hour from early morning until early evening then hourly until late.
Please note this will be my last entry for a couple of weeks as I'm on holiday in a few days. I will be back soon for Part 20.

Re: 655/755 . The services originally ran half-hourly all day& Sunday from both the Bradford & Leeds ends - I'm not sure what happened when this reduced to hourly on late evenings & Sunday (but was operated from Leeds when taken over by YR) .
of interest (to me at least!) is that (though not continuous) the times of journeys up & down Hollings Hill on Sundays are roughly about the same since this old timetable, departing Shipley between xx53 & xx58 towards Guiseley also arriving Shipley (from Guiseley) between xx09 & xx13 each hour! The route numbers have been 655 then later 755 97A 650 ( Bradford- Ilkley ) and now 737 - bizarre or is there some reason behind this?

Hello, back off holiday so look out for the next installment soon. Regards the 655 Sunday service, was it half hourly (inc the 755) before September 1980? It'd be interesting to know if this was the case and if anyone can shed further light on things.

We used to catch it from Yeadon to Horsforth on Sundays. Remember it so well cos we missed it trying to grab our bags from the seats at the bus stop after sticking hand out then a very long wait for the next one!!! Sent from my GT-N7100 using proboards

Now for the long awaited Part 20, thanks A1 YBG for that info on the 655.
760 Leeds - Kirkstall Road - Leeds and Bradford Road - Rodley Lane - Rodley - Calverley - Greengates - Shipley - Saltaire - Bingley - Crossflats - Keighley. I may be wrong on this one but apart from it's extra bit from Leeds to Wetherby back in the 90s, I don't think this route has altered since this 1980 entry. From Keighley Monday to Saturday buses ran half hourly from early morning until the evening peak Monday to Friday and early evening Saturday with a 40 min gap towards the end of the morning peak. From Leeds, buses ran at 05.30, 06.30, 07.10 then half hourly with no gaps in frequency until the evening peak Monday to Friday and early evening Saturday. During the evening peak both ways the frequency was every 20 mins. From early evening Mon to Sat the frequency was mostly hourly with some time changes making for larger 90 min or shorter 30 min gaps. Sundays from early until late an hourly service ran with a 90 min gap between the first 2 and last 2 journeys from Keighley.
775/6/7 Harrogate - Pannal - Burn Bridge (775) - A658 - North Rigton (775/7) - Weeton - Pool - Otley - Burley - Ilkley. No 775s ran in the direction of Harrogate to Ilkley, were they expecting Burn Bridge residents to walk towards Otley/Ilkley? The basic frequency was hourly Mon to Sat from early morning until early evening. On Sundays it was 2 to 3 hourly. 4 journeys served North Rigton from Harrogate during the afternoon Mon to Sat and 3 morning journeys plus 1 early afternoon journey served North Rigton in towards Harrogate Mon to Sat. Burn Bridge wasn't shown in the timetable however 7 775s ran Mon to Fri with an 8th on Sats. No Sunday journeys served Burn Bridge or North Rigton.
778 Otley - Newall Circular (not via Weston). Monday to Saturday from early morning until 8.50am 2 journeys an hour ran but not at a frequency then a half hourly service ran until early evening then the frequency was hourly until late. On Sunday mornings 2 journeys ran followed by a roughly hourly service (journeys ran at 53 or 58 mins past hour) until early evening then an infrequent service ran until late.
779 Otley - Weston Circular. Monday to Saturday a half hourly service ran with a couple of peak variations until early evening then an hourly service ran with the last bus 40 mins after previous bus. On Sundays the frequency was hourly until mid evening then every 40 mins until late.

Interesting with the 775/6/7 as it looks like todays X52 service.

IIRC, the 760 was rerouted in the Calverley area in the mid to late 90's sometime to run via Victoria St and Woodhall Road rather than straight down the A657, but was rerouted back a few years later.

(the 670 ran via Victoria Road at this time - when the e/Su journeys were withdrawn, the 760 was re-routed e/Su to cover this area)

Part 21
780/2/3/4 as follows
780 Leeds Cookridge Street - Woodhouse Lane - A660 through Hyde Park/Headingley/West Park to Lawnswood - Otley Old Road - Holtdale Approach - Holt Park - Holt Lane - Otley Road - Bramhope - Otley Road to Otley.
782 as 780 to Lawnswood then A660 Otley Road through Lawnswood and Bramhope to Pool Bank then via Pool to Otley
783 as 782 to Bramhope then via Otley Road to Otley then Ilkley Road - Otley Road - Burley in Wharfedale - A65 Ilkley Road - Leeds Road through to Ilkley
784 as 783 to Burley in Wharfedale then via A65 Ilkley Road - Wheatley Lane - Valley Drive - Ilkley centre - A65 - Addingham Centre - A65 - Draughton - A65 through to Skipton.
The 780 ran from mid morning to mid afternoon Monday to Saturday every hour. The 782 ran early to mid morning and mid afternoon to early evening every hour. The 781 which I'll mention next provided other journeys during the day between Otley, Pool and Leeds via Harewood. Service 783 ran from early morning to early evening and combined with the 784 to provide a half hourly service between Leeds and Ilkley early morning to early evening Monday to Saturday. Service 784 ran hourly Monday to Saturday from early morning until early evening combining with the 783 as above. An additional short working also ran on the 784 between Ilkley and Skipton and between Otley and Leeds. From early evening to late, only the 784 ran and it ran every hour through to/from Skipton and every half hour to/from Otley with one of the Otley workings extending to Ilkley late on. Last buses from Skipton/Ilkley ran only to Otley so I'm wondering if West Yorkshire had an outstation in Otley, perhaps an old Samual Ledgard depot? Before I wander into Sunday, the combined frequency between Leeds and Otley Monday to Saturday from early morning until early evening was every 15 mins although between Otley and Leeds it a touch off every 15 mins. An additional AM peak working on the 784 between Otley and Leeds. On Sundays only the 784 ran and it had a strange timetable. I'll start with Sunday mornings. Between Leeds and Otley both ways it ran every 30-60 mins. Between Leeds and Ilkley a frequency of between 30 and 90 mins ran with a early short working from Otley to Ilkley. Journeys also ran all day to and from Skipton but I'll go into those at the end. Journeys for the rest of Sunday to/from Otley ran every half hour until late with hourly extensions to/from Ilkley. Through Sunday journeys to/from Skipton ran as follows. From Leeds at 08.55, 09.25, 11.55 then hourly til 15.55 then 17.55, 18.55, 20.55 and 21.55. From Skipton to Leeds at 07.55, 10.25, 11.25, 13.25 then hourly til 17.25 then 19.25, 20.25 and a bus at 22.25 only as far as Otley.
781 Leeds - Chapletown Road - Harrogate Road - Harewood - A659 Otley Road - Weardley - Arthington - Pool - Otley. With regards to Weardley journeys, one journey ran the full route via Weardley at 09.50 from Leeds and 12.35 from Otley only on Mon, Wed and Fri. One morning peak return journey ran between Otley and Weardley Mon to Sat with an afternoon journey at 16.15 from Otley to Weardley and 16.33 from Weardley to Pool Mon to Fri meaning rather strangley Weardley only had an early Saturday journey to/from Otley with no other return journeys, what were they expecting shoppers to do until Monday, buy all of Otley? Other journeys from Otley and Leeds not via Weardley ran as follows. One morning journey ran from Otley to Leeds Mon to Fri at 07.40 (07.45 Sat) with 2 afternoon journeys at 13.45 and 16.25 on Saturdays only. Buses from Leeds ran at 12.50 (Saturdays only), 17.25 (Mon to Sat) and 18.05 (Mon to Fri only).
788 Otley Licks Car Park - Newall - Timble - Fewston - Blubberhouses - Thornthwate - Dacre. This service was operated by H Murgratroyd Ltd and it ran on Fridays only with a morning bus to Otley and an afternoon bus back to Dacre.
789 Otley - Weston - Askwith. This again was operated by H Murgatroyd and ran on Fridays with one morning and afternoon journey each way slotting in between the 788 journeys.
795 Leeds - Roundhay Road - Wetherby Road - Red Hall Lane - Coal Road - Whinmoor Middle School. Mon to Sat journeys ran hourly from early morning until early evening with some additional peak workings and a couple of early morning journeys numbered 742 via Seacroft. Not sure if these formed part of the other 742 service as they're not in that timetable.
796/7/8/9 as follows
796/7 Leeds - Roundhay Road - Wetherby Road - Bardsey - Collingham - Wetherby - Sandbeck Way (796 only) - Kirk Deighton - North Deighton - Knaresborough
798 as 796 to Bardsey then East Keswick - Collingham - Wetherby then as 797 to Knaresborough.
799 as 798 to East Keswick then via Linton to Wetherby then as 797/8 to Knaresborough
Through buses Mon to Sat from early morning until early evening ran hourly (with a couple of extra peak workings) using route 797 and one evening peak 796 bus from Leeds. A few more through buses (mostly 797 with 1 799) ran until late evening every 60 to 90 mins. 2 journeys per hour ran to/from Kirk Deighton from early morning until early evening mostly on routes 796/7 with a few 798/9 peak journeys. An interesting feature is that with the exception of peak times, these journeys ran close together from Leeds but were spread out better towards Leeds. Evening journeys serving Kirk Deighton ran as 797 above with a late bus on the 796 from Leeds working a short back from Kirk Deighton as far as Wetherby. Buses to/from Wetherby ran on all routes ran up to every 10 mins at peak times Mon to Fri with some of these journeys running on Saturdays at the same times. Mon to Fri daytime and all day Saturday 3 journeys per hour ran. Evenings until late Mon to Sat a half hourly service ran. On Summer Sundays during the day routes 797 and 799 ran as through services twice an hour combining between Wetherby and Knaresborough both ways half hourly. On Winter Sundays during the day services 798/9 ran hourly both ways (2 hourly each). All year, the first 3 journeys towards Leeds started in Wetherby and Sun evening through journeys ran every 60/90 mins on the 799 with some additional shorts on the 798 to Wetherby or Kirk Deighton.
800 (and part of 801) Dales Bus Leeds - Bradford - Shipley - Guiseley - Ilkley - Addingham - Bolton Abbey - Grassington - Kettlewell - Buckden - Aysgarth - Hawes - Keld. Summer Saturdays a through bus ran to/from Keld with a break of just over an hour in Hawes towards Keld only and an hours layover in Keld. Not much time for the driver to recover bearing in mind the journey time on the non stop return leg was 4 and a half hours. On Sundays, one return journey ran from Leeds to Hawes. A service 801 also ran from Harrogate to Ilkley then via the 800 to Hawes with one return Sunday journey. The 801 connected at Ilkley to Leeds and Bradford buses 651/784. By the looks of the timetable, the driver of the 800 ran back as an 801 to Harrogate and the 801 back as an 800 to Leeds. To give you an idea of a drivers rosta for Sunday journeys, the Leeds to Hawes bus left at 09.40, got to Hawes with no break at 13.32, left Hawes on the 801 at 15.05 and arrived in Harrogate at 18.33. The Harrogate to Hawes 801 left Harrogate at 13.05, arrived in Hawes at 16.27, left Hawes on the 800 at 17.15 and arrived back to Leeds at 20.55. If both buses had to be driven back to their original depots then that's another half hour added to the drivers time. Bet those drivers were a bit hacked off at the end of such long shifts! I believe a Middleton based Metro Leyland National ran this route although it says in the timetable West Yorkshire ran it.
Other Dalesbus services also ran and I'll scan the timetable for these at a later date.
P3 Leeds Vicar Lane - Whitehall Road - Geldard Road - Brown Lane Trading Estate. 3 half hourly morning peak journeys ran to Brown Lane with one evening peak bus to Leeds.
P10 Leeds Bus Station - York Road - Cross Gates - Sandleas Trading Estate. 3 half hourly journeys ran from Leeds during the morning peak with 2 evening peak journeys running to Leeds.

Regarding Otley services. West Yorkshire road car had a depot in Otley which is where kwik fit is now next to the fire station.

I'm almost there with the buses, now for part 22, just to add a bit of detail for the X10, it stopped at the Corn Exchange and Bridge End in Leeds as well just in case anyone thought Briggate was an odd stop for a Southbound service. Also the X2/3/4 only served the bus station in Leeds. You can tell I'll be glad when I reach the end.
X11 Limited Stop. Leeds Bus Station - via selected stops along Eastgate/Headrow/Westgate to Wellington Bridge then stopping only at Armley Road Bottom and selected stops in Swinnow and Pudsey (inc Pudsey Centre and Chapletown) to Waterloo. It ran Mon to Fri only every 15-20 mins from Pudsey during the morning peak and every 15-20 mins from Leeds during the evening peak.
X15/16 Limited Stop. Leeds Corn Exchange, Bus Station, Woodpecker junction then both non stop to Foundry Mill Drive, Moresdale Lane, Ironwood View then both through separate routes in Seacroft with the X15 ending up on York Road and the X16 terminating at Seacroft Centre. The X15 went on from York Road to Whinmoor via the Naburns. Both services combined to run up to every 7/8 mins from Leeds to Ironwood View during the evening peak and Ironwood View to Leeds during the morning peak. On Saturdays the combined frequency between Ironwood and Leeds from mid morning to late afternoon was every 15 mins. Individually, each service ran every 15 mins at peaks and 30 mins on Saturdays.
X23 Limited Stop. From Leeds Bus Station stopped only at Aire Street (City Sq inbound) then ran via the motorways to the Westfield Hotel then called at all stops via Baliff Bridge and Hipperholme to Halifax. Not sure where the Westfield Hotel was but I'm guessing it's somewhere near Cleckheaton. Back in 1980, the journey time on this service was just 40 mins in both directions! One Mon to Fri morning peak bus ran from Halifax and one evening peak bus ran from Leeds.
X25 Limited Stop. From The Headrow it stopped at selected stops on Park Row, City Square, Boar Lane, Corn Exchange, Bus Station and Woodpecker Junction before running non stop to Southwood Gate then via various roads in Swarcliffe and Stanks to Stanks Rise. It ran Mon to Fri with morning peak buses up to every 6 mins (and no lower than every 15 mins) from Swarcliffe and evening peak buses up to every 6 mins (and no lower than every 15 mins) from Leeds. On Saturdays, early journeys ran every 30 mins both ways before increasing to every 20 mins through until late afternoon with a 40 min gap between the last and second to last bus from Swarcliffe.
X32 White Rose Express Limited Stop. From Leeds stopped only at the Bus Station, Barnsley, Dodworth, Brightside and Sheffield Interchange. It was mostly an hourly through timetable from quite early (see below) until mid evening daily with some peak variations and shorter early morning and late evening journeys between Barnsley and Leeds/Sheffield and Barnsley. Sunday journeys started mid morning and most Mon to Sat through journeys starting quite early at 07.40am both ways. As a point of interest, it was jointly operated by Metro Bradford, South Yorks PTE, West Riding and Yorks Traction.
X35 Limited Stop. From Leeds Park Row called at Infirmary Street and the Town Hall before running non stop to Moor Allerton Ring Road then stopped at Allerton High, Nursery Lane, Buckstome Gardens, The Avenue and other roads through Alwoodley to Sandmoor Drive. It operated Mon to Fri only with morning peak buses every 10/15 mins from Alwoodley and evening peak buses every 15/20 mins from Leeds.
X36 White Rose Express Limited Stop. From Leeds stopped only at the Bus Station, Barnsley Bus Station, Dodworth, Thorpe Hesley, Toll Bar and Rotherham. Monday to Friday 3 daytime buses ran each way with 4 on Saturdays. No morning peak buses ran and no buses ran on Sundays. It had the same operators as the X32.
X37 Limited Stop. From Leeds Park Row stopped at Infirmary Street and the Town Hall before running non stop to the Ring Road then Sandringham Approach, Lady Park House, Shadwel School, Birchwood Hill and various roads around Shadwell to Ash Hill Lane. It ran Mon to Fri only with 6 morning peak buses from Shadwell and 5 evening peak buses from Leeds.
X50 Limited Stop. From Leeds Bus Station stopped only at Black Bull Street/Crown Point Road, Whitehouse Street, Thwate Gate, Whitwood Three Lane Ends then all stops into Castleford and on to Airedale and Ferry Fryston. It ran Monday to Friday only with 4 through morning peak journeys to Leeds and 3 through evening peak journeys to Ferry Fryston. Additionally buses forming morning peak journeys did short workings between Castleford and Ferry Fryston and evening peak buses did short workings back from Ferry Fryston to Castleford.
X50/X51 express stopping only at Leeds Wellington Street/Vicar Lane bus stations, Driffield, Bridlington then X51 only at Barmston Caravan Park, Uholme, Skipsea, Low Skirlington, Hornsea. These services ran daily with one Summer Saturday journey to/from Hornsea only allowing for an hour in Hornsea, 6 Summer Saturday journeys from Leeds to Bridlington, 4 Summer Saturday journeys from Bridlington to Leeds, one all year Friday bus at 18.00 from Leeds to Bridlington and 14.00 from Bridlington to Leeds and a Monday to Friday Summer bus at 09.00 from Leeds and 18.00 from Bridlington.
X52 Express stopping only at Bradford Interchange, Stanningley Town Street, Bramley Shopping Centre then non stop to Bridlington. It ran Summer Saturdays only with 2 return journeys. It had a fast journey time of just 2 and a half hours end to end.
X51 Leeds to Morley Limited Stop. Stopped only at Briggate, Vicar Lane, Bridge End, Meadow Lane, Dewsbury Road Bottom then non stop to Morley School Street (or is this in Churwell?) then it ran all stops through to Morley Centre and Glen Estate. Mon to Fri from Glen estate it ran every 20 mins morning peak then ran 3 additional scattered journeys until early evening. Mon to Fri from Leeds it ran 4 scattered journeys from mid morning until the evening peak then every 20/30 mins until the end of the evening peak and a late bus at 22.55. On Saturdays it ran half hourly from around 8am until early evening both ways then one journey at 19.07 ran from Glen estate and one at 22.55 ran from Leeds. Strangley on Sundays 2 journeys ran from Leeds at 18.35 and 22.52 with 2 from Glen at 17.45 and 19.07. These were the only X51 journeys on Sundays, they don't seem logical journeys, anyone know why they were needed?

Westfield Hotel was on the A58 after Chain Bar, where the 255 now crosses the junction from Wyke to Scholes, basically the first bus stop it would have come across after leaving the motorway.

Part 23
X54/X55 Express. Stopped only at Bradford Int - Stanningley Town Street - Leeds Wellington Street and Vicar Lane Bus Station - Tadcaster Blenheim Cafe (anyone know where this was?) - York Station Hotel - Malton - Scarborough Coach Park then the X55 went on to Cayton Bay Camp, Filey, Primrose Valley and Filey Butlins. This ran summer Saturdays only. From Leeds 5 morning buses ran between 07.30 and 10.30 with both an X54 and X55 running together at 09.30, both of these ran from Bradford at 09.00 and were the only journeys from Bradford. In the afternoon a journey ran on the X54 from Leeds at 13.30. From Filey Butlins, an X55 ran through to Leeds and Bradford via Scarborough at 13.35 with another 5 X54s from Scarborough scattered throughout the day between 10am and 6pm to Leeds. 2 of those 5 X54s continued to Bradford and one of the X54s duplicated with the X55 between Scarborough and Bradford. If you were lucky enough to come from Leeds you got a full day in Scarborough as the 07.30 arrived in Scarborough at 09.45 with the last bus to Leeds being 18.00. If you were from Bradford however, you couldn't get a full day in Scarborough unless you changed from a X54 onto a 72 at Leeds or took the slow 43 back from Scarborough. Both 09.00 X54/5s from Bradford arrived at 11.45 with the last return buses to Bradford being the duplicate X54/5 at 14.00 and a 43 at 18.45, this arriving into Bradford at 22.10.
X72 Leeds Park Row - Armley - Thornbury - Bradford Limited Stop. This followed the 72 route but with limited stops. From Park Row it stopped at selected stops centred around the Town Hall end of Leeds, Wellington Bridge/Wellington Road, Armley Branch Road, Pudsey Lane End, Bradford Moor, Laysterdyke and Hall Ings/Interchange in Bradford. This ran Mon to Fri only. From both Leeds and Bradford, journeys left at the same times with 4 morning and 4 afternoon peak buses from both cities.
X83 Leeds - Otley - Ilkley - Addingham Limited Stop. From Leeds Cookridge Street this stopped at the University, Hyde Park, Headingley Shaw Lane, Lawnswood Cemetery/Holt Lane, Bramhope (3 stops), Otley Bus Station, Burley Station Road, selected streets in Ilkley inc centre and Addingham Fleece. This ran Mon to Fri only with 2 morning peak buses from Addingham and 2 evening peak buses from Leeds. As a point of interest, the journey time from Addingham to Leeds was just 50 mins and 55 mins to Addingham.
X93/6 Leeds - Headingley - Cookridge (X93) Tinshill (X96) Limited Stop. These appear to have followed the 93 and 96 routes although I could be wrong on that point as roads mentioned around Tinshill/Cookridge in the timetable are similar to those in the 93/6 timetable and are stated as stopping places. It stopped at selected stops in Leeds, the University, Headingley, Lawnswood around Old Otley Road and through Tinshill/Cookridge. Both services ran Mon to Fri only at high combined frequencies with AM peak buses to Leeds and PM peak buses from Leeds. Individually The X96 ran every 15 mins and the X93 more often up to every 7 mins.
X99 Limited stop. Elland - Lower Edge - Brighouse - Pack Horse Inn - Cleckheaton - Moorend - Leeds City Square. This picked up and set down at all stops from Elland to Chain Bar then ran non stop to Leeds. An additional stop was at Aire street from Leeds. This ran Mon to Sat with one morning peak Mon to Fri bus to Leeds, one evening peak Mon to Fri bus from Leeds and one late night journey between Leeds and Cleckheaton at 23.20. The journey time between Leeds and Cleckheaton both ways was 20 mins.
Now earlier on I did say their were some timetables including the 77 Harrogate service that I'd scan, however I have decided to save myself some time at a later date and describe the 77 service now as it's not too bad to describe.
77 Harrogate - Woodlands - Follifoot - Kirby Overblow - Barrowby - Clap Gate - Sicklinghall - Wetherby. From Harrogate buses ran at 10.00 (Mon to Sat), 12.00 (Tue, Thurs and Sat), and 16.30 (Mon to Sat). From Wetherby buses ran at 07.45 (Mon to Fri), 08.45 (Sat), 12.45 (Tue, Thurs and Sat) and 17.15 (Sat).
The trains are up next, and I may be able to include the scans as well but we'll see how much time I get and If the library scanner is free.

Mention of the X72 has just triggered a spark in my grey matter. It wasn't mentioned under the 508 heading, but certain journeys towards Halifax in the evening peak were run express ( with a minimum fare) from Leeds to Stanningley Bottom, or was it Half Mile Lane? I may be wrong, but were there not some AM peak 'express' journeys. I'm pretty certain these were running in 1980, but were to become 'normal' a couple of years later.

Just had a look at the 508 timetable again and their were 4 buses between 16.05 and 17.35 from Leeds which didn't pick passengers up until Stanningley. All others were normal stopping journeys.

Yep, those are the ones. The AM journeys did not exist as limited stop, I have since found out. I remember the PM ones, by the 80's they had become a pain in the backside, as people could not understand why it was limited stop when it still said 508 on the front, and when you attempted to get the minimum fare, well.........

I've still got one more to load up (the other Dalesbus timetable) but that'll have to wait, and believe you and me when that's downloaded I'll be celebrating.... as well as thinking I'm not doing that again!
