When was the last time there was a direct service between Huddersfield and Wakefield on a Sunday?

That is great. Good to see some “out of the box” thinking and gives another connection possibility for the Ponte line. That would give Wakefield two services ab hour to Huddersfield.

I wonder if it will be extended in the future to either Leeds (to re-instate the short lived 6 trains per hour) or extend to York via Castleford and create some new connections.

For them to even consider extending to Wakefield, there must be demand from somewhere.

I bet it’s for operational reasons, maybe unavailable platform space at Huddersfield. I can’t see why Huddersfield would otherwise need a non stop service to Wakefield, when they have a perfectly adequate stopping service that is run by a 153 to hardly overloaded.

You could well be right - but the really significant link is not Wakefield - Huddersfield; it's the fact that it re-establishes a long-broken through service between Wakefield and Manchester; to link it the other way to York as well would be a really significant benefit. I've argued for years that at least one of the existing TPE fast services ought to go via Wakefield rather than Leeds but the Leeds-fixated local administration can't be persuaded; this might be a way of achieving the same result by stealth!

First episode of "The Railway 24/7" (Channel 5, Wednesday 10th June 2020, 9.00 p.m) is, as expected, a behind the scenes look at TransPennine Express, and this particular episode has their passengers revolting and a derailment threatening to bring the network to a halt.
Episode one of six.

Improvements on the North TransPennine corridor from Liverpool and Manchester to Leeds, Hull, York, Scarborough, Redcar, Newcastle and Edinburgh will focus more on providing additional capacity, as a full level of service is already operating on the Manchester – Huddersfield, Huddersfield – Leeds and Liverpool – Newcastle routes alongside an amended service on other routes. From July 6 TPE proposes to maximise peak capacity on the Manchester – Huddersfield, Huddersfield – Leeds and Manchester – Hull services through the operation of six-car Class 185 DMUs wherever possible. The TOC says it is ‘not proposing to reinstate services that would duplicate and compete with other operators’, adding that ‘due to the current and forecast lack of demand, overnight services on this route are also not currently being re-introduced.’

I doubt it will return for a long time as part of the thinning out of services through the Castlefield corridor

So, does this mean the few remaining long distance Scarborough trains will no longer run? If so, that'll add an extra 15 to 20 mins onto all journey times to/from Leeds which isn't great tbh. You can currently get a through train at 08.27 arriving into Scarborough at 09.44, the next one being at 09.10 changing at York to arrive at 10.44, the line speed is irritating enough without adding in a change in York for all journeys which frankly will put some people off.

Realtimetrains is showing 14 through Liverpool to Scarborough trains a day instead of the current 5. Is this now wrong?
