Thanks for your patience while the forum has been upgraded. You'll notice a few enhancements, some of which are detailed below. The main change is that the forum will now also cover the whole North and East Yorkshire areas, bringing a public transport forum to those living in and/or interested in these areas. A smaller but important change is that the full forum is now visible to all guests, but posting on the forum still requires membership (primarily to prevent automated spamming etc).
The popular Misallocations and Breakdown threads are now grouped together into "Spotted" - a place to list not only misallocations but anything else outside of that category that you've seen and may want to let people know about.
Our forum moderator Tim has set up a new forum for you to ask questions about railways in the area. Rather suitably, this is called Ask Tim, in the Trains forum. You'll also find occasional posts of interest popping up, so keep an eye out.
Two new dedicated sub-forums have been set up: Rallies, in the History section, for discussion of, well, transport rallies; and the Fantasy Forum in The Canteen, for sharing your wildest ideas of what public transport should look like, perhaps sharing details about your fantasy operations or linking to paper bus images on flickr, or anything else you can think of.
Hope you enjoy the changes and I hope that members, both current and new, will enjoy using and building up the North/East Yorkshire section to create a lively discussion forum for these areas.
As always, any feedback you have, please let us know by either replying to this thread or private messaging any one or all of the forum staff.

Good changes to the forum, can I just suggest another change to save on any confusion, any news on routes what cross the boundry may need to be in a special heading on the home page with under the heading Cross Boundry Services. For example, Keighley's 25 and 66, Harrogate's 36 and 770, the Dalesbus and Coastliner changes could happen throughout all routes in both West and North/East Yorkshire so it would be easier for a single post to be done what could appear on both boards rather than for the poster to have to decide which to post in.

I wasn't sure about this issue so was going to see how much of a problem it might be. As it's already been mentioned I'll go to plan B. Transdev is the biggest operator where this issue happens, so I'll separate their operations by depot rather than where the services go. So West Yorkshire will cover Keighley only, North Yorkshire covering everything else inc Coastliner. Other operators will follow a similar pattern, such as Arriva's Leeds to Selby service is run by Selby depot and so comes under the North Yorks banner. The exception is the Dalesbus network which despite being operated by some WY operators should be covered by NY. Ultimately there'll always be situations where a post covers more than one section and I don't think we can try and stop it ever happening. It's just a case of balancing a sensible number of sub-categories and in most cases trying to create a clear idea of what goes where. We'll see how this goes and re-assess if necessary.

It is not clear that where bus service changes go - or have I missed something As service changes these days tend to be clustered together with more than one operator being involved the main Buses forum is the place to post these. If there happens to be a post about one or two changes specific to one operator only then I would suggest posting it in the appropriate operator sub-forum. Hope this helps.

Where does Arriva's Whitby operation fit. UK Transport or the Arriva sub board in the North Yorks forum that is for Selby discussion?

I would say the Arriva board in the North Yorkshire category, after all, Whitby is N Yorks.

Mmm not too keen.
Would rather have the old lay out and incorporate the other operators from EY & NY etc i.e
Buses -> Arriva -> Sticky for Whitby, West Yorkshire, Selby etc -> Transdev -> Sticky for H&D, K&D, YC -> First -> Stickies for Hudds, 'Fax, Leeds, Bradford, York -> Yorks Tiger -> Stagecoach -> EYMS -> Smaller operators -> stickies for the likes of TLC, M-Travel and whoever else is warrantied. -> Service Changes -> Stickies for NY, EY & WY Think there is far too much going on now and seems a bit all over the place.
Also, thanks for consulting the meembers on this.

As Arriva's Whitby operation is an outpost of its North East division, which is outside the scope of this forum, I haven't included it as such. However if occasional discussion concerning Arriva in Whitby comes up I would suggest the Arriva North Yorks board can be used.

A smaller but important change is that the full forum is now visible to all guests, but posting on the forum still requires membership (primarily to prevent automated spamming etc). Does this mean topics/posts will start showing up in Google? I've done a couple of pointed searches and nothing appeared. I'm thinking mainly about anyone having visibility of the 'Canteen Talk' section, such as if someone was looking for a timetable and a result popped up from the Fantasy Forum. Just a thought.

Why not change the name of this forum to simply, "Travel Yorkshire". I know there's a seperate South Yorkshire one (TSY), but given we now cover all the other Yorkshire regions, Travel West Yorkshire seems a bit irrelevant now. Also It's a bit long winded (like my post), Travel West Yorkshire inc blah, blah, blah. Is this worthy of consideration?.

We will wait and see how popular the forum for other areas becomes. If it becomes apparent the name is no longer suitable we will change it in the future, but as for now it's an established name which we will keep for at least the time being.

Nice, easy condensed way to view everything. Make it easier on mobile devices. In all honesty, transport outside of West Yorks does interest me, but it is very very rare for me to view the other boards. Dont know how other people find things but could be worth canvassing to find out?

Yes, return to the old way. At present their is duplication at times or more likely postings in the wrong forum, usually the WY one. Examples being New Coastliner Buses under WY Other Operators (okay correct in that) but obviously ought to be in the Transdev Coastliner bit, the derailed York-Harrogate train reported on the WY pages not the NY ones, various NY services changes reported under WY......... Basically the forum is a complete mess NY wise.

I agree, there is far too much duplication now, an example is the forthcoming Harrogate Gemini cascade which effects Harrogate, Coastliner and Keighley or the extended 762 which is being discussed in both the WY and NY changes threads.
My idea...
Scrap the separate NY section, merge Arriva, First and Transdev into their WY sections. Merge sightings, trains, other operators and history into their WY sections. Scrap EYMS & Stagecoach sections entirely, any threads can go on the buses main board or in other operators.
