When I got on 3601 yesterday it was having gear problems uphill, it was holding gears for ages and couldnt get above 10mph up some hills. Sounded like driver was messing with controls all the way too & pulling handbrake half on while driving.

When I saw 3601 on Saturday out on the A61 near Harewood it was smoking something rotten, all the way into Leeds - and I thought it had a new engine! From a distance the livery reminded me of the York 'Terrible Tales' tour bus! Certainly an impressive refurbishment though. Branded as '36 City Connect', is this actually true - Ripon and Harrogate aren't cities?! A minor point.

Does it have a cathedral? If so then yes it is! I'm sure thats how they tell. Maybe its just a myth.

I stand corrected!
You have to say though, it is an unusual decision to tweak the brand name of the 36 to '36 city connect' , when the 36 is probably Blazefield's strongest brand already. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as the saying goes. My guess is everyone will still just call it the 36 and the city connect will just remain superfluous.
Whilst the new livery is visually impressive, I think it is a little cobbled together. The red swoops bear little relation to the silver 'wave' on the lower panels, and there isn't enough relief from the black. Not that I'm a livery designer or anything.

I personally think "city connect" is alright. Espcially if people travel to Leeds commuting! However like you say the 36 was a really strong brand for Blazefield! ... But i do think it needs the 2011 touch to it. Back then it the livery was suitable for the company. But now it isn't and does look dated. So it needed classy modern touch and they've got it spot on. Well done transdev

Coastliner have published their summer timetable, and an interesting note is that the summer holiday service running from Acomb to Flamingoland says "not run by a low floor bus" ... I guess they'll be bringing in buses from elsewhere for that, but not sure what.

Does it have a cathedral? If so then yes it is! I'm sure thats how they tell. Maybe its just a myth. It certainly does and it is how they decide what is/isn't a city. The presence or otherwise of a cathedral is no longer a definitive guide to city status. The Queen still grants city status in conjunction with major commemorations as part of the event (there is a current campaign/competition over the granting of city status to one town for the jubilee next year? - locations in the running include Luton & Chatham/Medway towns, neither of which have a Cathedral). In the reverse Guildford in Surrey has a Cathedral but is not a City. If there is an old Cathedral it is a fairly good bet it is a city but the lack of a Cathedral does not automatically discount a place from being a city.

Looks like BYX 115V which was in Leeds City Sightseeing a few months ago when Harrogate ran it. It is 4002, BYX118V. This Ebay page advertises it as a 1980 bus, but in practice it was new to London Transport in 1979, as part of the batch up to M205.

President 441, Y711HRN is now in service at Keighley - except it isn't 441 anymore as has reverted back to its pre Coastliner number of 2711! It hasn't been refurbished as still has Coastliner seats and old lights front and rear.
