Firstly, my commiserations to Kendall, on the day etc etc. secondly to LJX I can only imagine one thing worse than your trips today.......16 trips round what was the 505/6 (Savile Park/Pellon Circular)!!!

I have heard a lot of bad things about the 505/6 from other drivers. I like the Rye Lanes, nice & steady with plenty of time on it. It is the 28A I dont like, if I am ever on that it is rare because I always try swap it.

Neither must be as mundane as the HJC C68 service.
The 36 must be quite easy to do compared to the likes of the 531 which involves very tight roads and no doubt meeting tractors coming the other way on a single track road!

I love the 531, i have only met a tractor once and that was about 2 week ago, had to reverse for about 2 mins, the worst ones are the women in little cars that cant reverse taking about 5 mins to go 10ft and end up going into a wall. 559 Dean Head is my favourite route out of all them.

The worst duty on the West End services was the0700 sign on Pellon (505), you left garage at0710 for the 0715 505, then you did 8 Pellon's. I think you then had a 50 minute break, and just to let you unwind..... you then had to do another 8, but this time the other way via Savile Park. Really was not nice in a National 2 on a red hot Summers day!!!!

The Claremounts are the ones the drivers hate most, up & down non stop 8 times. I dont mind them. Everyone on the route knows me. lol

I presume everyone's favourite is the 528?
It's funny how the 505/506 suddenly died a death when they used to be every 30 mins each way, presumably helped by HJC competing hard against them with various numbers (305, 505A etc), and the closure of the Halifax Royal Infirmary.

I presume that part of the 531 route is what I would know as the 527 to Rochdale, loved belting over Mill Bank with no extra time in a Leyland Leopard. As for the 505/6, they were quarter hourly when I was there, would imagine that the closure of the Infirmary won't have helped them, plus a lot of mummies and daddies now take their little darlings to Crossley and Porter School (sorry, Crossley Heath) in the car instead of putting them on the bus. Sign of the times I'm afraid.

Timelesstable, I don't like the 528 much because of the timings & the rattly Tempos plus the brakes on them are awful. Ratty, Still have to average out 30mph from Triangle to Ripponden on the 531 otherwise you are late.

Had a bash on one hell of a good way to Keswick a week last Monday, Class 185 train at 06.35am from Leeds to Newcastle followed by Wright's bus 888 from Newcastle to Keswick via Hexham, Alston and Penrith (used 2 Volvo B10 coaches due to a breakdown at Alston, how lucky) with a return on the second outbound coach at 16.30 back to Newcastle. Final 2 legs of the journey were on East Coast class 91 from Newcastle to York at 20.13 followed by a rather eventful journey from York to Leeds on a class 158, the end carriage's lights went out mid journey 3 times before the conductor evacuated the carriage.

Lovely day out at Windermere yesterday. Drove car up there, Then jumped on open-top Trident "S"reg down to Bowness. Back to Windermere on "H"reg Leyland Olympian (In fantastic condition, for it's age). Then out to Kendal on B10M Alexander PS, (Think it was "R"reg) and return to Windermere on "61"reg Scania Enviro 400. A good day's "Bash" on Stagecoach's eclectic mix of vehicle's up there. Recommended.

So, my August Bank Holiday in Leeds and Otley comprised the following:
Class 323 and 185 to Leeds, and back.
7 to Wigton Moor - First Volvo B5LH-Gemini 39233 36 to Leeds - Harrogate & District refurbished Volvo B7TL-Gemini 3601 33 to Otley - First Volvo B7TL-Gemini 32460 967 to Menston - TLC E200 12932 Class 333 to Leeds 74a to Belle Isle North/ Middleton Ring Road - Volvo B7RL-Eclipse 66996 13a to Gledhow - First Volvo B9TL-Gemini 37698 38 to White Rose Centre - VDL-MCV Evolution 663 203 to Leeds - Arriva reupholstered Volvo B9TL-Olympus 1806 63a to Cross Gates - VDL-MCV Evolution 664 Class 158 to Leeds Class 150/2 to Headingley 1 to Leeds - First Volvo B7TL-Gemini in First Leeds livery
This means that the only bus I have yet to ride in Leeds is a refurbished Volvo B10LA-Wright Fusion on route 95, which would not have run during the Uni holidays or a Sunday/ Bank Holiday anyway. I can ride one with an FTR on route 72 and potentially an ex-Olympics Volvo B9TL-Gemini, hopefully on route X6.

Quick run out to St. Annes this morning. Parked car up and boarded Solo to Blackpool. Next up was a 51 reg Trident to Gynn Square then back to tower on E reg ex-IOM Trident. Brisk walk and leisurely lunch followed by return to St. Annes on the 52 reg ex-SLT Trident. Bit disappointed as i saw no ex-IOM Daf Lowlanders out in service yet. But the city-sightseeing O/T Olympian had a good loading on it.

I did a trip with a bit of difference on Saturday. Courtesy of my parents heading for a weeks holiday in the Cotswolds, I blagged a free lift from York and gave them instructions to drop me off somewhere on route. At 1015 I was dropped off in the town of Kenilworth in Warwickshire.
My mission: Get back to York by 1800 using as few trains as possible.
The trips:
Stagecoach in Warwickshire - 35184: X17 Kenilworth - Coventry Virgin West Coast - 390131: Coventry - Birmingham New Street London Midland - 323205: Birmingham New Street - Lichfield City Midland Classic - 81: X12 Lichfield - Burton-upon-Trent Arriva Midlands - 2985: X38 Burton-upon-Trent - Derby Trentbarton - 67: Red Arrow - Derby - Chesterfield Stagecoach East Midlands - 15689: X17 Chesterfield - Sheffield Cross Country - 221120: Sheffield - York
Arrival time back in York was at 1735.
