I'm not sure it's going to make things any clearer for the general public to have a Metroday ticket when First already call their ticket a Firstday, what was wrong with Day Rover, it does exactly what is says on the tin!

The Dayrover (or whatever it will be called) must be advertised better and all operators should be made to have prominent signs in their vehicles showing that you CAN buy a multi-opertor daily ticket and do not need to get separate First or Arriva day tickets.

Maybe this is the point. When people hear 'Dayrover' they think of a scratch off ticket purchased at the Post Office.
A relaunch as 'MetroDay' maybe what it needs so people know it is available on the bus.

The number of times I have bought a Metro Dayrover ticket from a First driver and they have been unable to work out what I wish to purchase for about 5 minutes is unbelieveable! I have to say the £5 one, the one that's valid on all operators buses, the PTE one?  ?!!!!! |

............and they say no we don't sell them. we only do our own day tickets u need to go to bus station or post office for them.

Buying them I don't find a problem, the problem I find is boarding a different operator's service to that of the one I purchased the ticket. Surely this problem would be solved with the introduction of a wallet for them to be sealed in so it is more obviously an all operator ticket rather than operator specific.

I got on a M Travel bus with a Metro Day Ticket off a First Bus without me handing it to the driver to read & it is companies like that that I would expect not to know anything about them. Some HJC drivers don't know about them but most of them do, but they do take them off you to get a read of them first as I am sure a lot of drivers do.

In Hertfordshire the Explorer ticket which is valid on most operators in the county is issued in a wallet similar to the First wallets and is instantly recognisable for all! Nearly all buses in the county carry a sticker on the first nearside window advertising that it is 'issued and accepted on this bus'. Metro should stipulate that it is to be issued in a Metro wallet as Jack rightly says!
If your ever visiting Hertfordshire I would highly recommend purchasing it as it is valid as far as Oxford, Milton Keynes, Harlow, Cambridge, Bedford and into London. What's more is that it is valid without time restrictions.

There aren't that many problems with using the System One ticket on different operators in Greater Manchester. You might get the occasional long stare at the ticket when you get on one of the smaller operators but no major problems. Does help with the tickets on First and Staecoach displays the ticket details clearly.
I think Metro just need to run a big publicity drive, make everyone aware (including the drivers) that you can buy the ticket on the bus. Plenty of other areas that have the all-operator day tickets and are known about.

What's more is that it is valid without time restrictions. A word of caution it depends on who you purchase your Intalink Explorer from in Hertfordshire as to how far you can use it. Both Arriva and Centrebus use the Intalink Explorer as their day ticket for their entire operations in the area however, last I heard, only an Arriva issued Explorer was valid on Arriva journeys entirely outside of Hertfordshire - which is the only way to reach Oxford for instance - whilst Centrebus drivers should accept for all giving a way to reach Milton Keynes on one. It is valid on all participating operators (it says on all Herts CC timetables whether the service is operated by a member of the Intalink Partnership and so an operator who accepts explorers) on services to/from or within Hertfordshire which does not necessarilly cover journeys entirely outside the county. As long as wallets are supplied in sufficient quantities it would be easier for drivers to identify the multi-operator tickets but it does rely on the organising authority to ensure they issue sufficient to operators as it can make life worse if they are normally in a wallet but sometimes not because the operator has run out. Hertfordshire is normally good at that but I have had experience elsewhere of ordering more wallets as we were running low and receiving, 2 weeks later, enough for about 1 days usage. An additional problem is that with the many different types of ticket machines now in use the size of the wallet is an issue - Wayfarer 3's have a different size/shape ticket to its TGX replacement, the old Almex A90 is different again as is the new Almex Optima replacement, as are the ERG machines that people like Stagecoach have adopted in places, which is different to the Init machines recently purchased by Trent etc. Can be overcome but does add complications - I have also heard that the printing on the newer machines doesn't react well to the glue used in wallets but this should not be an issue for a day ticket. |

MetroDay ticket launches on Sunday. E-mail have been sent out and the news is on the Metro website under the Tickets section (although nothing in the News section advertising it). The ticket will cost £5 but can be used at any time (before 9.30am weekdays too) and is available from the bus driver. This is ridiculous, so the Metroday can be used at any time but the Family, Bus/Train and Train Day Rovers are still limited to after 9.30am on weekdays. Why can't they just have one set of rules, if they can't give free train travel before 9.30am then they shouldn't change the bus only Day Rover either.
I know that are giving extra value by launching this, but I think it should be a change to all tickets or none at all.

Think part of the problem is that certain rail services are seriously overcrowded arriving into Leeds in the morning peak, so by allowing dayrovers to be used on these services would only add to the amount of passengers.
Another issue could be that as Centrebus are gaining services more people may have to use 2 operator's services to complete their journey, meaning operator specific tickets become less appealing. The cost of purchasing 2 single fares for their journey could deter people from using the bus, going against Metro's aim to increase bus usage.

No Disagree All the busonly tickets should be the same, the operator specific tickets firstdayout etc will not be going back to offpeak only so why should the metroday be off peak only when we're paying extra- however kday still has dual pricing All the train day tickets should be the same ie cheap day returns or whatever they're called now are only valid after am peak cos the rail versions are more of a leisure ticket. |

News article from Metro about the new MetroDay ticket which has now launched. They mention the key points of it can be bought before 9.30am weekdays and can be bought on the bus, saying "although the tickets will also show the name of the company that has issued the ticket, they will be valid on all operators' services". Arriva (Heckys) have been advertising this on their piece of string next to drivers cab for the last 2 weeks. Only be chance when the bus jerks when ur about to get off u notice these!!!!
