It seems a very long route from Bradford to Doncaster. If NXEC can get more frequent service to Bradford then I cant see many passengers from Bradford using Grand Northern. That leaves Halifax, Brighouse, Wakefield and Pontefract. Wakefield already has NXEC and Kirkgate is hardly and advantage for Grand Northern.
So I personally would use the Grand Northern paths for something else and start a Leeds-London service at Halifax, and route one via Pontefract instead of Wakefield and everywhere still gets a London service
The Grand Northern paths could be used for say a peak Middlesborough service, supplemeting the Sunderland service, and the daytime paths for a Scarborough service and an extra service to somewhere else (say Hull with Hull Trains). Both Middlesborough and Scarborough services were mentioned by Grand Union in their submissions for longer term ECML service proposals, along with a Cleethorpes-London service via Sthingyhorpe, though as much as I like the idea of that, the proposed NXEC service from Cleethorpes via Lincoln is probably the better idea overall
Anyway, the decision is unlikely to be changed, so lets hope Grand Northern make a success of it

One of GC's arguments was that Brighouse is a park and ride point for Huddersfield commuters, who will still be without a direct lonk
NX fired off the expected 8 page riposte to the OIRR on Friday- we will see if it has any effect (NX only submitted its plan for a frequent Bradford service after seeing GC's plans, and with no regard for Metro's planned new stations at Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall which as things stand can't happen if NX gets those rights approved)

News on Metro's website today reports that the Office of the Rail Regulator have given the go-ahead to the Grand Union service from Bradford to Kings Cross via Halifax, Brighouse, Wakefield Kirkgate and Pontefract. Metro also confirms an extra National Express East Coast journey from Kings Cross to Leeds, which will continue to Harrogate after timetabling issues being resolved. NXEC will also run one of the two existing journeys to Bradford Forster Square should it be able to fit into the route's busy timetable. The Grand Union and NXEC's Harrogate journeys will start from December, with the NXEC Bradford service also possibly starting in December if a soultion can be agreed. www.wymetro.com/News/090227ORR.htm
