All this so & so can take over the route etc. Have they found the magic pot of drivers at the end of the rainbow? If I had a pound for every time someone suggested that Transdev take over a route, as if itâs as easy as that It's more than possible. Transdev shows interest in expanding while first continues to do nothing but shrink.

ooooh 85 is a good call. Can see it going to Flyer somehow like the 784 did I honestly don't see the point in its existence The 85 was a sop to a handful of people in Pool who were left without a direct bus to Leeds after the X85 from Otley was withdrawn during the pandemic. It used to pick up a few sixth formers and students and one or two folk who worked at the university. The trouble is that since then itâs ceased to become a worthwhile service for anything else, so it doesnât allow you to go out in the evening, and itâs too infrequent to be any good for shopping.

So if there are to be wide ranging cuts my predictions are:
All core services to run at 15 min frequency when were originally 10 min
1 increased frequency 1b withdrawn 4 rerouted in pudsey to replace 14 on kent road 7a extended to wigton moor to replace 48 12 everyother to terminate at middleton arms instead of white rose centre 14 withdrawn between bramley and pudsey (4 rerouted to serve kent road/valley road) 16 withdrawn between seacroft and whinmoor and some journeys renumbered 16a 16a daytime service introduced to serve rodley 27 withdrawn between yeadon and guiseley 29 extended to beckett park replacing 1b 46 stays at hourly but withdrawn between morley and white rose 47 & 48 withdrawn 52 to serve cottingley 55/55c withdrawn 65 withdrawn
85 withdrawn 86 withdrawn between rodley and bramley X11 only to serve leeds during rush hour, rest of time runs pudsey to bradford only

Wonder how this will go against Tracy Brabins agenda... nothing encourages bus travel more than cutting services. Glad I don't rely on the bus.
In Halifax atleast I can see a lot of the Town Work being heavily revised to focus more on the main profitable routes, 503, 576, 590/591(589)/592 even though these have all been heavily cut back from what they used to be. 503 - every 8 mins, to every 10, to every 12, to every 15. 576 every 10 mins, to every 12, to every 15. 590/592 every 10 mins, to every 12 (due to long term roadworks to allow more time in the cycle), to every 15.
539 could go, 537 remain and replace it as Decker required for full standing loads in AM & PM for New College & Brooksbank Schools. Perhaps re route the 537 via West Vale and rejoin current route at Elland Bridge for passengers wishing to travel between West Vale and Stainland/Holywell Green which I'm sure aren't many.

First lost its market here in Rodley when it purposely ran the 670/ 35 into the ground. I can't see people using the 16A to go to town via Bramley and Armley. No one needs that wild west experience when you can use the 60 instead.

It will just drive people to use cars, which is the last thing we need on the already congested, polluted roads. Public transport is unsuitable for my job, but I still use it for other leisure activities. I don't want to be solely reliant on a car or taxi, as its eye wateringly expensive and can be inconvenient, especially if I've had 10 pints etc...

Well, there might not be many West Vale to Holywell Green / Stainland passengers, but one Stainland lady complained bitterly via several letters to the local press a few years ago, about not being able to use her bus pass to visit the doctor's surgery in West Vale, as the bus left Stainland at, IIRC, 9.25 am! According to her, there were a lot of passengers affected. It's interesting to read the comments about the 571: if it were cut back to be Halifax-Brighouse only, I suppose it would remain hourly. But Southowram has seen a big cut in services over the years and anyone in the village without access to a car must be a bit restricted as the service is so limited for commuting or leisure purposes, and it's a long walk, involving a lot of hills, to any other bus service.

Unfortunately with things like that it's tough, when they applied for the pass they'll have agreed to the terms and conditions that they can't use it before 0930. In reality it is 0927. They can get to the doctors if they pay.

I presume the 16A diversion is to replace the 86 rather than be a service for Leeds, I presume it'd be no more than hourly as well? Regarding the other end of the route, I'd have cut half the 56 between Whinmoor and Swarcliffe, and cut half the 16s between Seacroft and Whinmoor, timing them both to run every 15 mins from Whinmoor, and possibly from Leeds market as well, although that might be difficult to achieve. Another really bold move would be to divert the 56 to Seacroft from Barwick Road, terminate the 16 at Seacroft and instead extend the 40 via a hybrid of the 56 and it's own route through Swarcliffe, then on to Whinmoor and back along Coal Road and the Ring Road to Seacroft. I have noticed there are parts of the 56 in Swarcliffe that are very around the houses, but run close by each other such as the circuit that runs via the shops with either end seen within a fairly short walk, so I'm sure an extra 10 minutes of circuits on a 40 won't harm lol.

The likelihood of any major change to the 56 is very slim. Has to be one of the most profitable routes in Leeds.
Only change that is plausible is the reintroduction of terminating short at Eden Drive & Swarcliffe.

I Agree there should be a tidy up of the routes around the Swarcliffe/Whinmoor area, although i'd keep routes 56 & 40 through Swarcliffe as currently & have the 56 terminate at Swarcliffe & run route 40 to Seacroft via Sherburn Rd,Whinmoor & Coal Road whilst cutting route 16 back to Seacroft (plus reinstate X56 to run to Whinmoor at peak times, possibly renumbered X40) I Like the idea of replacing the 86 with the 16A as well, whilst it would be a slow service into Leeds you might still get some passengers using it (compare the First services from Seacroft to Transdev for example) Plus would improve the frequency from Rodley to Pudsey,in fact if you diverted it via Owlcoates Cnt you could fully replace the service 80 from Bramley to Owlcotes as well.

It had been told to me by many first drivers that 512 will replace the 514 with a bus and hour serving Wainstalls in each direction however it does not seem to be displayed on future registrations. Is this because they are wrong or is it because already a few journeys already run through Wainstalls?

The closure of Cottingley Rail Station was supposed to be offset with an enhanced bus service, which doesn't work if you cut the 55/C. The 65 is the only service that connects Beeston with White Rose and runs round the Cardinal Square estate; I think it's more likely to lose the Morley-Gildersome section, if the 205 is still running.
The 86 is an odd route, odder still the last 50 years since the motorways and distributors came and caused three hefty diversions between Hunslet and Wortley but it seems to cling on regardless. It's the only route now from Dewsbury Road to Beeston Hill, for example.
Doubt the 1 will be increased in frequency north of the city centre if there no demand for buses through Headingley (which there isn't like there used to be, now that the students either live in the centre of Leeds and can walk or just haven't returned in huge numbers). The 6 and 8 only run every 15 minutes each (and the 6 is apparently being diverted in the city centre - not sure how, it currently mimics the 8, 27 etc. down to the bus station. Mind you, I can't work out the 1/1B timetable, having looked online!

Regarding the 55/C and 65, these aren't that well used beyond the Leeds to Holbeck section, except at school times for the 65, I caught one from Morley one Saturday afternoon after I couldn't be bothered walking up Crow Nest Lane from a 51/2 and it had less than 10 on throughout from Morley to the shops off Town Street in Beeston. Most people can catch a 1 down from Beeston to Dewsbury Road (I've seen some lazy sods complete with uniform for companies at White Rose do this) and change for a 3/3A if they can't walk. Personally, it takes 15 mins if I get a move on to walk from the area around the bus terminus on Town Street to the White Rose.

Personally, it takes 15 mins if I get a move on to walk from the area around the bus terminus on Town Street to the White Rose. Therein lies the problem. It could be quiet when you catch it, busy when I do. Under the old guidance from 20 years ago, 10 passengers would make it financially supportable by the PTE.
I sometimes wondered by the equivalent of Horsforth's 31 & 32 weren't introduced to Beeston. From the terminus to Elland Road, Cottingley, White Rose, Parkwood, Cardinals to Beeston Terminus. That takes the Parkwood loop off the 75, the 65 could go and the 55 could extend to White Rose if not running via Cottingley (the previous extensions I think got binned because of the traffic at the two Ring Road/Elland Road junctions). One advantage here is that First would be unlikely to run it, freeing up resources for them (although I can't immediatly think of someone with a midibus operation except CT Plus (on the 81)).
You could cut back the 46/46A/47 to terminate at White Rose as well, if there's room.
(I tried to use the timetables on the website and the new network map to work this out. Gosh, it's confusing!)

Very recently it's been widely reported that 62 routes don't meet viable profit margins for commercial operation so will either be fully axed, or see journeys withdrawn. One thing I wish these so called reporters would do is weed out the list of routes affected so people have an idea where they stand going forward, e.g. if you know your route is on the list, then you have time to look for work closer to home even though nothing has been confirmed as it's better to assume it will be cut than find it is cut when it's too late. Are we starting to see anything come through confirming axed routes, or will it be one of those last moment jobs by WYCA when people find out a week before.

Finding out the detail wouldnât be in the interests of the media as it would probably result in the headline being less sensational than it is â62 routes facing the axeâ will generate more clicks than â7 routes facing the axe, 55 routes having one trip at 6am or 10pm axedâ which is probably closer to the truth

In the same article they talk about the Arriva strike which apparently lasted a fortnight.
