For Todmorden, I would like to see some high specification double decks, Volvo B5TL - Gemini 3's or long Enviro 400 MMC's. Any other operator the Calder Valley corridor would have high spec deckers on it. I don't think it is often realised how much money & passengers those services take in. Would be nice to see it given the quality service and buses it deserves. Bring back the "QUALITY Service" launched in 2000, operators could learn a lot of they look at how things were done 20 years ago. For alternatives to the deckers, a high quality refurbishment of the Eclipse 2's would suit it well, after all these were brought over by the old business manager for use at Todmorden to re-launch the Calder Valley. I've thought of giving the Enviro 400s similar treatment to the Doncaster Gemini 2's to modify the buses with wireless charging tables, USB and free wifi and brand them for 589/590/591/2. What I would do as well is modify the services back to every hour Burnley or Rochdale to Halifax and then combined between Tod, Burnley and Rochdale as every half hour and then I would make the 591 run a complete different route and run it to merge with the 7 running all the way to Rawtenstall but avoiding Newchurch and Pennine road to cut journey times.

I know some people may disagree with me but I would get rid of Transdev Branding as a whole. I would stick to the main livery's of Blackburn, Team Pennine, Keighley, Burnley etc. The only other branding I would keep is Pride of the North as a spare livery.

Probably because Kirkheaton Quick was withdrawn Denby Darts etc still exist Most of e200MMCs that had Huddsquick branding have also had it removed. May be the best at branding but they’ve got a lot to learn. Bus branding has to be direct, and personal to the local community they serve. Having a lazy general brand won’t do much to increase usage. Especially in a town where people don’t feel pride for where they live. If only the great northern line received the modern vehicles. Although as mentioned in another thread, may not be the best either as most locals won’t remember a line which closed years ago.

Arriva Yorkshire.
I wish they standardised with the fleet with Renowns, instead of getting ALX300s.
Standardise the fleet with ALX400s instead of Presidents, those Urban 90s was awful.
I wouldn't have got the tempos for the 163/166 in 2009, seemed a strange move from Arriva, would have gone for some B7RLEs or if we was going doubles, go for E400s or G2 Hybrids.
Alisson gearboxes in the e200minis instead of the AS Tronic gearbox.

This is a Transdev based change I would do:
Instead of replacing Burnley Renowns with Mellors I would have used the five ex Yorkshire Tiger Solos they have and rebrand them for Burnley Bus Company. I would then send the Burnley Bus Mellors down to Rochdale in Transdev Go livery to act as spares for the Rochdale Runners, which don't really need large vehicles as the demand isn't really there.
When the ex Hotline Geminis arrived at Keighley, instead of branding them for Keighley Bus Company I would have branded them for the Bronte Bus as double decker capacity is now needed as those routes have become particularly busy. They also cope miles better than the eclipses when coming out of Hebden Bridge. As well as this, they would be able to navigate through Oxenhope easier as they are shorter than the eclipses.

Certainly better than the Tempos, as the tempos aren't suitable for euro 6 conversion, and the tempos have issues with reliabilty, and eat a lot of fuel up, and they have a poor turning circle. Arriva North East certainly didn't like them, when they had them up there. Drivers don't like them either, from what I've been told. Rather see them go to the knackers yard first over the commanders. Arriva should have never ordered them, especially for the 163/166

Not quite, the B7L's suffered badly from rotten floors and many got re-floored. Even the 54/05 Plate Eclipses in Halifax were on their original floors. On the B7RLE it is the wheel arches that get it and rear end, 66758 for example came from Bradford had all new front arches fabricated. I have never felt a soft or spongy floor on a B7RLE yet with a B7L or Scania L94/L113 I have. But of course neither myself or you are an engineer so I can only go off my own experience and people in engineering.

More of an interior change but… Arriva should not have made leather standard for their seats. I’ve come to realise no matter how good a company maintains their interiors, leather will be permanently crinkly and have an overall tatty appearance, even without rips, after a year or less. I wish they hired a design firm to make a nice modern moquette. Colours like what they use on journey mark. A nice bright and modern blue + purple!

Urban 90 seating in any bus, any buses with the Urban 90s seats was absolutely awful.
Also had backache, from the Dennis Lances and Striders B10s with the rockhard seating, probably the only time where I wanted a ALX300 to turn up.

Impossible to find any bus with Urban 90 seats that hasn't had a letter 'T' drawn on in front of the Urban 90 logo on the seat backs.

The urban 90 seating was horrendous - Especially on the Arriva Presidents. I remember I had a rock hard worn seat and bumpy journey down Dewsbury Road on an Arriva Dennis Lance / Strider. Though the Volvo B10 / Striders were slightly better.

Then when they ordered them completely, the tempos never made it onto guided busway. So here’s me thinking when the Volvo B5’s came that the routes would be back on the busway. I guess not.

First Halifax has certainly been lacking recently, when it comes to investment. For standardization in fleets across West Yorkshire I would have purchased brand new Streeetdecks and Streetlights for the routes that Halifaxrun and also to replace the old Volvo B7TLs and some of the older B9TLs. There would also be a local livery introduced for First Halifax using this style of livery I saw on twitter that I really liked.
.
Instead of the 337s coming over from Oldham for Halifax, I would have purchased 23 brand new Wright Streetdeck buses as apparently 12 of the Enviro 400s from Greater Manchester are heading towards Halifax. I would also use this as an opportunity to replace 37129 - 37132, 37063/4 and the remaining B7TLs (including 37051 which was withdrawn). Fleet numbers will be 35693 - 35716 and will carry the new Calderline Livery with NSA and USB charging points.
And for the Streetlites, I would use them to replace the ex York Eclipse Urbans so they can replace the 474s on school duties with the Cummins Streetlites going elsewhere to replace older vehicles. The reasoning is as 474s are useless for some school duties for eg. C86 is always seen leaving with buses crammed full of students but when it's ran by an eclipse, the capacity is alright. The new Streetlites will have NSA and USB charging ports in the Calderline livery. I would also order a further more 3 Streetlites as spare. The batch would be numbered 63467 - 63475.
As for allocating here is how I would allocate the vehicles for Halifax:
BMC Condors: School duties 373xx B9s School duties 375xx B9s School duties Ex York Eclipses School Duties
590/1/2 Millwood depot: Volvo B9TLs and Enviro 400s 541, 542, 543 and 586 commonly Streetlites but Eclipses, and double deckers on occasion 501/X1 Streetdecks and Enviro 400s occasionally B9s 508 Enviro 400s occasionally B9s and Streetdecks Mixenden Circulars: Eclipses/2s and Volvo B9TLs 521: Volvo B9TLs and Eclipses/2s 522/3: Eclipses/2s and Streetlites 548: Eclipses/2s and Streetlites 576: Volvo B9TLs and Streetdecks 579: Volvo B9TLs

Any company buying Volvo Citybuses, they took the word high floor to another level, ugly looking things as well, preferred Olympians.

More of a change in specification Huddersfield has services which fill up singles but struggle to fully fill up deckers. This isn't an issue but an opportunity. You can provide tons of luxuries and accessibility improvements with little worry about standing capacity unlike with the electrics over in Manchester. Think luggage spaces, an extra wheelchair space, tons of ideas to make relying on public transport easier and more accessible.

Some parts of me wished that Yorkshire Tiger merged with Arriva Yorkshire. The fleet would be far more interesting if that were the case and would be helpful as the 377/8 and 571 wouldn't have ridiculous milage amount to do if Arriva still owned Waterloo and Elland depots.
To get Yorkshire Tiger to Arriva's standards in fleet I would have done a full fleet renumbering, and still gotten rid of all the Optare Solos, Spectra, Lowlanders, the ex London Gemini and of course the Cadets and Commanders as all those types of vehicles have been withdrawn in the main Arriva fleet. In replacement, investment in new vehicles would take place to both the ex Yorkshire Tiger fleet and Arriva Yorkshire main fleet.
Starting with the ex Flying Tiger Buses, instead of sending them to Castleford I would have repainted them into journey mark livery and would have sent them to Elland depot to join Versas 1005 (201) and 1006 (202). However these 2 tiger liveried versas would be renumbered 0796 and 0797. These would have replaced the Commanders, and Tempos allowing the Optare Tempos to move to Waterloo depot.
With growing demand for double deckers on the ex tiger routes I would bring in some more double deckers for usage on 20, 21, 231, 232, 233 and 502. Also since the fleet of Yorkshire Tiger double deckers was quite old I would have replaced them as well. This would mean a total estimate of around 28 double deckers being in the ex Yorkshire Tiger fleet. As PVR for 233 is 5, PVR for 231/2 is 6, PVR of 502 is 2, PVR of 20/21 I would be ensure about but I'd say around 4 and then the previous Yorkshire Tiger deckers there were 6 of them and then a couple spare. I would bring in a mixture of Gemini 2s and Enviro 400s. I would take 8 Gemini 2s from Heckmondwike depot (1545 - 1552) and then Enviro 400s 1930 - 1939 from Heckmondwike and 1960 - 1970 to the ex Yorkshire Tiger fleet. For the single deckers, I would send the Centros to Elland depot to replace a couple of the solos, as only 3 routes really require small vehicles in Elland depot which are 561/2 and 577 (but realistically you can fit a coach on those routes as they always did in the 90s). Solos 0406 - 0410 will also transfer to Elland for the 561/2 and 577, as well as 1001 - 1005 little E200s, with Solos 3050 - 3053 transferring to Waterloo for usage on 303/4 and 377/8. I would still leave the YK08/YJ08 and YJ59 N** batch for original Solos with them receiving Journey Mark livery.
Fleet allocations: Sapphire 163/166 E400 MMCs repainted into journey mark to Waterloo Enviro 400s 1930 - 1935 to Waterloo, 1936 - 1940 to Elland Gemini 2s to Elland Enviro 200 Mini 1001 - 1005 to Elland, 1006 to 1010 Optare Solos 0406 - 0410 to Elland, 3050 - 3052 for Waterloo The Centros renumbered from 627, 719 - 724 and 727 to 1201 - 1207 transferred to Elland replacing old Solos The ex Tiger tempos for Waterloo Versa 0791 - 0797 at Elland Solos 310 - 322 at Elland Solos 28** at Elland Pulsar 2s 1488 - 1494 to Waterloo
In replacement of the loss of Castleford and Heckmondwike buses, brand new double deckers will be purchased for the 163 and 229 with the 163 receiving a batch of 11 new Streetdecks numbered 1578 - 1589 and then new a fleet of new E400 MMCs for Sapphire 229. For the loss of mini E200s and Pulsar 2s some new short wheel base Evoras would be purchased for Dewsbury Depot for 230/230A and 250 also doing a few extras.
Allocations in routes:
Waterloo 83/84 Pulsar 2s 231/2 Enviro 400 MMCs Journey Mark with branding for 231/2, and 5 being spares 233 Any double decker allocations 260/1 transferred to Waterloo with Pulsar 2s 303/4 Solo SRs and E200 Minis 360 Pulsar 2s 435/6/7 to Wakefield depot, but an average allocation mixture of any Wakefield vehicles longer than the E200 Minis 377/8 transferred to Waterloo and Solo SRs and E200 Minis
356/8 and FTB will be allocated anything spare
Elland 20/21/22 inter working with Any double decker allocation or longer single decker allo with some 22s interworking 343 502 Any double decker allocations 524 Centros inter working 587 526 Centros inter working 574 530 Solos and Mini E200s inter working 577 532 Solos and Mini E200s inter working 534 546 Solos and Mini E200s inter working 561/2 563 Solos and Mini E200s, occasionally double deckers and Centros 571 transferred to Elland, interworking 20/21/22/343 with a mixture of Centros and double deckers

One that I wish would happen in the near future:
First currently have 17x MCV EvoRas 13m (the 'XL' version) at Dublin Airport new last year but are to be replaced by electric vehicles later this year. As it looks like they are owned by First rather than leased(due to having standard First coloured interiors), I Would convert them to single door 49 Seaters & split them between Huddersfield & Halifax depots giving them newer single deckers plus providing better capacity on some routes that fill an eclipse but without needing half empty DDs or in the caste of 548/9 cannot use DDs, with the split being:
12x Huddersfield - 3x 324,4x 372,5x 549
5x Halifax - 3x 548 & 2x 508 (with 1 Decker also being on 508 to coincide with peak times)

The 508 needs more than just single deckers. A lot of off peak trips fill the entire double decker, I wouldn't say it deserves Singles at all. Even the late night trips are fairly busy for singles.
