They really think it's better for all passengers from Shipley to Leeds to get the hourly train to Kirkstall Forge and then a bus, taking twice as long as normal, despite the line being clear? If there's any substantial numbers doing that they're going to need a lot of buses. If there aren't, they're putting those that do that to a lot of extra effort. They've also removed the usual additional Lancaster and Carlisle trains which will be starting at Skipton. So anyone going Shipley to Carlisle (usually a direct service) will have to change 3 times. Anyone going Shipley to stations North of Skipton can travel on a Bradford to Skipton train and change at Skipton - this is one change, although admittedly there is further engineering work north of Appleby. The issue is not the line being open to Leeds, the issue is available platforms at Leeds. On Sunday there is only 7 platforms open, two of which are the East facing bays. So, two changes from Shipley - and the trains at Skipton are timed to connect with the trains from Leeds, so typically another half hour at Skipton if you get the Bradford train. There's no connection from a Bradford train to the first train to Appleby - so the earliest you can get to Carlisle is 2 hours later (1430 instead of 1230).

They're not going via Mirfield - other trains (to Manchester) are going by that route. Yes I know they are going via Bratf'd Interchange. I was replying to BradfordTraveller who seemed to think they might go via Mirfield.

Am I right in thinking that this is for one Sunday, and is not ongoing disruption? If so, while I think it's odd that they are not stopping the Skipton trains at Shipley, it is a pretty minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things if there is one Sunday when some journeys are going to be less convenient than normal. (If I've got that wrong then I'll happily retract the point!)

It might be busier than a normal Sunday.

Skipton trains are skipping Shipley to ensure that passengers to/from Shipley are not taking up capacity on each train that could be needed by passengers travelling further. With Shipley also served by Bradford trains, putting Shipley passengers on these services means more space for those travelling to/from the likes of Bingley and Keighley and not meaning those passengers left behind at Leeds with a half enpty train by the time it reaches Saltaire. Not a question of better, but capacity management. There are less than half of the platforms at Leeds open for use and once LNER, XC and TPE services have been plotted in, there's very little of that capacity available for Northern. By skipping Shipley on the Skipton service, means should it be busy, the hourly service isn't full of people only travelling to Shipley with the train having to leave passengers going further behind. By putting Shipley passengers on the bus to or from Kirkstall, gives more chance for passengers going to Bingley, Keighley etc to get on. Same for the Carlisle and Morecambe trains starting at Skipton. There's no capacity for them at Leeds.

They could have made it set-down only at Shipley from the North and pick-up only from Leeds so it wouldn't appear in journey planners without needlessly inconveniencing those going beyond Skipton (and without halving the frequency of local journeys). And if there's really that many travelling between Shipley and Leeds, how many replacement buses are they going to need?

Find out what developments are planned for Leeds railway station and its approaches. leedscitystation.commonplace.is/proposals/leeds-city-rail-station-improvements-plansThe scheme will see an investment of £39.5 million to significantly improve the station’s main entrance and surrounding area. With the number of rail passengers using the station forecast to more than double to 70 million by 2043, the works are necessary to meet capacity demands and ensure that people can enter, exit and wait for services safely.

Fantastic to see them moving bus stops further away from the main entrance, this will be particularly good for elderly and disabled people, and others wanting to connect between rail and bus when it's raining. Top work planning team. You deserve a few bonuses. Lol.

These Connecting Leeds idiots must live in dream land, Bishopsgate Street is already busy enough, so too is Neville Street, and they want to reduce both to one lane on the very busy inbound section for yet another blasted cycle lane! Why can't they simply segregate a section of footpath? Ok, so there is a pinch point on the corner of both roads but make that humped so cyclists have no choice but to slow down! There is a good reason why I don't cycle, I live at least 3 and a half miles from work, often more depending on where I'm going to be based that day, and can't take a shower during work time nor not willing to set off earlier just to have one, I've already had one before going to work so it defeats the object of environmentally friendly if I'm showering TWICE a day! Can't these idiots just ask people on Neville Street and Bishopsgate Street why they are driving? I bet the answer is they have multiple drop off's for school etc on a morning and don't have the time to then return home and cycle.

It’s basically a complete return to how it was about 20 years ago, as the bus stops outside the station used to be on the end of Boar Lane back then. These things go round in circles.
I don’t see how Bishopgate Street can only be a single lane when it’s part of the loop road, which was supposed to be so far traffic can get to where they need to be whilst allowing various streets to be buses only or pedestrianised

Hardly an improvement when taxi access is on a different level access via a load of steps or a big lift (power requirements, derr) .
Buses are even further away, bus stop Z1 is that going to be still there?

IIRC, the overall masterplan includes re-routeing the loop road away from this area completely - so the single lane would presumably be buses and taxis only....

But where do they go after that? There's the plan to fully pedestrianise City Square apart from the counter-clockwise route up Park Row on to Infirmary Street. As I've said elsewhere, where do Rail Replacement Buses go? Where do coach parties for The Queens (all those visiting overseas rubgy and cricket teams) disembark? How does bus traffic get from Boar Lane to the King Street end of Wellington Street, if the whole area in front of The Queens is pedestrianised?
And why aren't there any plans we can comment upon, as in previous consultations, to ask all of these questions?
