Preston Bus have derigistered service 280 (Preston - Clitheroe - Skipton) from 17th June, meaning unless Lancashire County Council receive an affordable offer from the tender it has put out, the last journies on this service will be Saturday 15th June.

That's disappointing - I can't believe the service is being cancelled in its entirety, but maybe Clitheroe to Preston will be retained as a new route. Given that they have been running double deckers on Saturdays because the route is so popular, it seems surprising that it is being cancelled, but maybe LCC have reduced the funding available.

Or maybe it's popular but they are all pass holders which is no good if a commercial service wants to make money

Preston Bus registered it commercially when LCC last tendered the route, back in 2016, so currently no LCC funding to be reduced. However, if it is going to have a future, someone else will have to take it on commercially, or LCC will have to find some additional funding to return it to their tendered portfolio.

Indeed, LCC are inviting tenders to ascertain the cost of retaining a service. No word on if they will or what service that may be at present.

Ah, OK, I assumed that as LCC and Transdev had been unable to agree on a tender price that it had gone through as a contract, I wonder why Preston Bus registered it commerically if there was money available? Anyway, it explains why the promised Summer Sunday service hasn't reappeared. Let's hope LCC can come up with enough money to persuade someone to run a worthwhile service.

I think Preston bus jumped in with a 'commercial' service before any tenders were agreed. But the service is not commercial so it was withdrawn.

It has lasted a surprisingly long time if it was so obviously not commercial. It was clearly marginal, there are plenty of services that operators try to make work for a few years - EYMS ran the 18 commercially for 4 years after no contract could be agreed with the previous operator before giving it up as a bad job. Preston Bus have clearly given it a good go, they tried altering the service pattern to give a more regular service and not frequent buses on the busier section west of Clitheroe, but ultimately of they're not seeing enough signs of growth then it's not sustainable. That said, I'm surprised they aren't keeping the western half, I would have thought that ought to be commercially viable even if the eastern half isn't.

It can't help having to get two buses out of service to Barnoldswick every morning.

Er, no, this is a Cancellation so only 1 of them from 28th June. It's been 2 since First renumbered the 33A! Will be interesting to see what number they give to the Trinity service when/if it's re-registered in September.

According to Preston Bus on their FB Page, Service 280 is being taken over by a Stagecoach. I wonder what will be used on the route by stagecoach

Given the route the 280 takes through the Dales etc then a double deck would be good. Perhaps vehicles painted in a livery similar to the buses operating in the Lake District. We can but hope!
