It was around 2:05PM on a sunny afternoon at the Belle Isle Circus stop (named on the App as "War Memorial" despite no memorial being evident). During the following 20 minutes or so, no less than four buses came past displaying Sorry Not In Service. Checked my phone when a service bus finally arrived and it was 2:29PM. Although Route 12 advertises a 10 minutes daytime service, it was a 13A that arrived with no sign of any buses coming up behind.

I`m guessing most of the SNIS buses was late running 12/13/13As running down to Hunslet for driver swap overs. Seacroft seems to another area where you see buses go Not In Service as a way to make time (Services 16 & 40 seem to be the most popular 2 to do this from what i`ve seen)
It does seem a little odd that Leeds is the only area to do this on an almost daily basis,as the only route outside of Leeds in WY i`ve seen First do this is the 503

Two arrive at Bradford Interchange at the same time, one went to pick up passengers from it"s stand for return journey to Halifax while the other went NIS out of the interchange & as soon as it was on Nelson Street the blinds went to 576 Halifax

I had this on an evening many years back. Where I was waiting on Dewsbury Road for a bus back into Leeds. The 3A was due, but a bus that said “ Not in service “ drove by. I caught the 203 behind it and as we were following the bus. By the time the bus got to Bridgewater place it changed to the intended 3A

Try getting a 12 from the White Rose Centre back to Leeds late afternoon (especially Fridays) and they either do not appear for a long time, or come in as a 12, then immediately pull out 'Sorry Not In Service'. I have known it to be an hour before the next 12 runs.

Running late & getting adjusted to get back on time. Suggests there's not enough slack in the timetable.

A lot is due to no strategic thought being put into late running, elsewhere London, Scotland Birmingham will curtail buses short to get them back on time quite why they allow 3 or 4 buses to trundle to their full destinations amazes me, surely curtailing one or two improves the service overall so that customers aren’t inconvenienced any more than they need be

Sometimes the drivers will ask to be adjusted by calling in, but can be frowned upon. Also, turning 1 or 2 around early doesn't ensure all passengers can get to their destination. Passengers could be stranded due to no space. There's no popular way of doing it without throwing additional resource and building time into the timetables.

I had an unfortunate experience in Keighley recently. I was in a hurry and saw a 662 counting down from 3 minutes. Although I wasn't going far, I thought getting this would be quicker than walking. It counted down to due and disappeared, whilst a 662 dropped off. No bus came and staff at the bus station advised me the bus had been cancelled and it'd be another 10 minutes. I decided to walk. As I went down Cavendish Street the bus passed me, in service but not having picked up the passengers from Keighley. Did that really help more than picking up the passengers did?

The Traffic Commissioner really need to investigate First, they cancel far too many journeys. It's very rare for there not to be at least one cancelled journey on the route I use between 4.30-6 The 662 has been a bit patchy lately, a few weeks ago I was waiting in Keighley bus station and although the boards were tracking a delay it did the same of counting down to due then disappeared. A few minutes later 3 arrived at once, but only one boarded whilst the other 2 went to park up. Whilst picking up at Asda, both of the late buses overtook, out of service leaving the remaining in service bus to be fully loaded

Is that not so they can try and get back on time, in the 662’s case maybe going along the bypass and starting in service in Bingley or Saltaire, rather than all 3 buses doing another round trip bunched together
