We have been approached to replace the 965 in Otley once it is withdrawn in Oct, and can confirm we'll be doing so. Registration made today.

The 965 has always been assumed to be commercial, so presumably First have let relevant parties know they want to come off it.

If a tender is coming up for renewal then it should be an open and fair competitive process through which all operators are able to bid – there should not be "an approach" made to an individual operator. Sure, if it was a last minute matter then you could understand that for the sake of expediency, they may not be able to go through the full process, but with 3 months until the replacement service needs to start, there shouldn't be any excuse for bypassing that process.

I doubt it's a tender. Metro often approaches operators about registering a replacement commercial service when another operator withdraws.

I doubt it's a tender. Metro often approaches operators about registering a replacement commercial service when another operator withdraws. Even if it is a commercial operation rather than a tender, something doesn't seem right if Metro are apparently giving preferential treatment to some operators over others by encouraging them to take on routes. Although having said that, if Transdev are already operating evening services (which I assume is under contract?) then there may well be some justification for them being given the nudge about the daytime service.

How do you know it was preferential treatment, presumably First told Metro, Metro told everyone else. You only seem to think its preferential based on the different wording in two tweets.

KBC already operate the tendered evening and Sunday journeys, which they won along with various other tendered services in the area last year.

And possibly Keighley had been told directly by First, before Metro was informed. Seeing as First (& Arriva) & Transdev have a 'working relationship' over through ticketing etc it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Transdev had been informed the route was coming off, and giving them opportunity to decide if they would like to run the whole service. One point though - is ConneXions going to run on Sunday daytime?

What's funny is that in this case it's likely the small independent will be using much newer buses on the route than the large operator.
Not sure Otley Bus Station can accommodate a bus war, it can barely accommodate normal service.

Sounds like it will do a loop round in the hour then onto the 940 while the next 940 comes in and swaps onto the 965 and does an hour. Cos the 940 runs hourly and has a lunch break in between.

That bus first would normal operate on the 965 will probably be used as the extra bus that first are proposing to add extra in the x84 service changes in October.
