This is really for Alex Hornby but I've put it as a general post to see what anyone thinks of these suggestions as all opinions will help.
There is a duplicate short working around 9.20 from Malton to Thornton Dale on the 840 Mon to Sat, this short working is timed 1 minute in front of the normal 840 Mon to Fri and 1 min behind it on Sat, could this short working not be put back by 10 mins and used to ferry passengers off of the Leeds service for all stops to Thornton Dale with the through working from Leeds made into a non stop service between Malton and Pickering then running direct to Goathland instead of Thornton Dale? I know passengers from Thornton Dale to Whitby might be inconvienienced however could they not pick this service up in Pickering using an earlier working from TD to Pickering? There is one at 09.04 which gets to TD at 09.12, I'm guessing a non stop bus from Malton to Pickering will take 15 mins so if it leaves at 09.20 it would get to Picketing at 09.35, not too bad a wait for those from TD. If the through service runs direct onto the moors instead of via TD another 10 mins could be shaved off the journey time, 25 mins might not sound like a lot but this particular working Monday to Friday is almost knocking on the door of 4 hours to complete, bad enough it taking over 3 and a half hours on a Saturday!
Secondly for the Summer months could the current Tadcaster to Scarborough X43 be started from Leeds as there are express buses to Whitby and Bridlington but not Scarborough, perhaps even link some of the City Zap journeys onto Scarborough journeys showing these connections in the timetable with the normal Leeds Scarborough day return being valid on all connecting journeys?
Finally would it be possible to ask Metro to have your Coastliner timetables on their website as opposed to having their own versions as yours clearly show connections where as Metro do not indicate connecting journeys at Malton.
Thanks for considering these ideas, ps, could a later bus run from York to Leeds around 10.05pm as Tuesday night matches at YCFC mean I have to use the train which is expensive, in the past a late bus used to run from York to Leeds at 9.55pm and back to Malton at 10.50pm, this ran for quite a few years and I believe it was especially popular from York to Malton.
