I must pass comment on here about 3 vehicles I've travelled on what aren't fit for driving, one of which isn't fit for any human to use! Firstly there is an 06 reg Solo previously with K Line running out of Elland what I had the misfortune to catch on a recent 343 journey to Greetland, the very crawl like pace especially on hills is dangerous if an emergency vehicle needed to pass, the weird thing is there was a blast of pace at times, more noticeable the higher up the revs went in a gear. Seemed like it had a turbo but it was programmed to kick in at the wrong time, either that or it was faulty. Secondly the East Lancs Darwen Scania at Leeds is full of holes and provided a freezing ride on the 737 last Saturday! Driver and many passengers not happy! Finally what the hell is it with 770 Tempo? It's too dam slow and again is a danger at junctions on hills if an emergency vehicle needs to move past it!

The rebranding is over a year old. The vehicles around Huddersfield look better but they still "shake rattle and roll" when used in service. Some have been have got N Irish plates, I assume to hide their real age and there are still two or three vehicles in use in the K Line livery. The company could do better.

Some of those Tempo's Castleford are removing from the 189 could be used to replace crap buses here! Some of those Darts and Man Evo's sometimes sound like Massey Ferguson Tractors lol.

Another break down this evening. Drive past a 711 (one of the white double deckers)at the top of valley road in Pudsey been hooked up to a breakdown truck.

Does anyone agree that since the launch MD left the company, Yorkshire Tiger has gone down hill.
They used to do lots of PR and events, make a song and dance about everything, similar to what is going on now with Transdev since Alex Hornby took over.
Since then there has been nothing, no PR, no promised new website, repaint and refurb programmes abandoned, Tiger Blue has kind of partially happened, but with no fanfare, no advertising, the promotional Twitter account is dead, hardly any big deal made of the new Calder Cubs vehicles, none of the student stuff in Leeds anymore etc etc
When they launched it seemed like one of the most exciting and fresh things to happen to the bus industry in WY for many years but now, what is the point of having the exciting fun name and livery of Yorkshire Tiger if they are going to be so dull?
They are basically now back to being very safe and business as usual, like back when they were Centrebus. Just getting on with it.

Totally agree, and their buses are all looking extremely shabby, dents, bumps, scrapes everywhere!

Arriva have previous history in attempting to run a low cost arms length company when they took over Wardles. They took over with good intentions, introducing a new red livery albeit in Interurban style. By 2014 when I visited Newcastle & Hanley you could see many similarities with what's happening at Tiger, buses running around in standard Arriva colours, those still in red looking very shabby and an ageing fleet of cast offs. As most of you will know Arriva finally sold the Wardle business to D&G last year.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if Arriva discretely looked for a buyer in the next 18 months or so. Unlikely I think that Stagecoach or Centrebus would return, maybe a resurgent Transdev would be interested, Elland would possibly be a fit between Burnley and Keighley fleets without causing any competition issues and Transdev have been rumoured to have an eye on the airport routes with the useful bonus of a depot at Kirkstall in case of problems with the 36/760/Coastliner etc.

Your buses don't look too bad in the pictures and I was outside the Coach and Horses in Harrogate a few month back visiting my brother and a Flying Tiger bus passed and looked ok. Much better than what I have live with and the fleet of buses operating out of my local depot.

The Flying Tigers may look good but pay a visit to Huddersfield. A good number of Tiger Blue vehicles still in K-Line livery with K-Line fleet names. Yorkshire Tiger buses in orange with no fleet names. The new and old liveried vehicles look tired and worn out. N Irish reg marks to hide the age. The 911(Melthan -Honley circular) frequently has a free town bus liveried vehicle working the service. What started out as a good operation with a new livery appears to be going down hill quickly. Even the new vehicles in Halifax are looking a bit jaded externally( yes I know it winter time). I can understand why passengers will let a Tiger 324 pass a stop and wait for a First 324. It will be interesting to see what Arriva group cast offs head to this part of West Yorkshire

It's not necessarily just the age of the vehicles. Transdev Keighley don't have the newest vehicles, the extended 762 is being run in part by Renowns, but it's been promoted within an inch of its life, with Twitter, press launches, photo shoots etc. The new late night 760 from Leeds is probably run by a 15 year old President, but it is promoted constantly. You can still do a lot with older vehicles.
Nothing like this from Tiger, nothing promoting what Tiger Blue is, and how it differs from K-Line before, mentioning the USB sockets etc. the Flying Tiger and the features it offers haven't been promoted in many months either.

Yorkshire Tiger are a great company in terms of drivers, they are the friendliest, most helpful around. But their social media/ online presence is practically non existent.

Yorkshire Tiger are, and always have been just a "budget" arm of Arriva Yorkshire, similar to what Wardles were to Arriva Midlands. Since the buyout from Centrebus holdings, there hasn't been that much of an investment in the fleet, save for the rebranding/renaming of the current company, and new Versa's for the airport's and Solo's for Calderdale. The majority of vehicles brought in since the inception of Yorkshire Tiger have been cascades from other Arriva operating areas and secondhand buses from ex-rental fleets. I'm in complete agreement that the general condition of the fleet has worsened since the last MD left. Perhaps that's just an indication of the regard that the current Arriva hierachy hold their "budget" companies in. Quick enough to sell Wardle's to D&G spring's to mind. There are currently reviews regarding Tiger services in South Kirklees, the outcome of this may determine whether Arriva see Waterloo depot as a viable concern,(Stagecoach didn't during their stewardship), but if they were to ditch and sell, i wouldn't have thought Stagecoach or Transdev would be interested. My money would be on First, thus attaining total dominance in that area and eliminating Tiger Blue as competitor on the services they compete on.

Generally quite good. But with the one bad experience.
Bought a MetroDay the bus-only ticket from a driver. Discovered the ticket was half printed missing off the date.
Driver wouldn't give me my money back. Said I had to ring Tiger office. Shrugged me off by writing the date on! Couldn't ring Tiger office. first wouldn't accept the ticket. Had to ride back to Bradford on a Tiger bus. Fortunately got a new ticket from Metro counter. Slightly too late to get to where I was going but got an afternoon run out.

I'm sure I read somewhere, that, there was an announcement made, years ago by the Monopolies Commission, where First, would not be allowed to buy anymore operators in West Yorkshire, has that would give them the Monopoly over services. |

I have had cause to complain about a Tiger service running 7/8 minutes early. Sent an e mail 8 days later no reply so it was sent again with an added comment that if I received no reply within 3 working days I would forward my complaint to Arriva HQ. Needless to say no reply so my complaint was sent upwards. I got a reply from Arriva HQ stating "Yorkshire Tiger has nothing to do with us please direct your complaint to that company". I eventually got a reply from Tiger stating that they could find nothing on cctv. Result I gave up and where possible use First( at least they try to give a service)

Not just the original MD but most (I think one remained) of the original depot managers had also left the company around the same time as well. It appears that, regardless of vehicle colour, the operation was much more Arriva style managed than original appearances would have indicated.

The only depot I have seen some sort of improvement with is Waterloo as not as many buses look as shabby any more. However, some of their allocations and branding(Such as the VDL MCV Evolutions being branded for the 231/2) makes no sense when even Centrebus/Stagecoach used to run deckers and full size single deckers. It is a funny situation what would happen to Waterloo as Stagecoach sold it to Centrebus in the first place. Unless they closed it and gave out the routes to different operators?

After an initial sweep of huge investment across the Tiger operation it almost seems like the money tap has been switched off. The recent fire at Elland depot won't have helped things but with DB turning the screw on all operations I reckon they'll have to put up with cascades from elsewhere for the time being. Even the North East are having to make do with cascades for 2016 - from Yorkshire and London.
