I'm confused, please pardon my ignorance but in the goodie bags handed out today were leaflets for both routes, both leaflets include a map of central Leeds showing both the 163/166 and 189 arriving in Leeds via Boar Lane before entering the bus station and then leaving Leeds via Eastgate, Vicar Lane and Boar Lane. Are these actual or future route changes or have the printers been sent a map of the 254/255 route through Leeds and put it into all leaflets in error?
Also the 189 timetable shows a different interpretation of the new livery with orange swoops and branding, was this a last minute change and if so anyone know why?

Orange branding on the new design was to be the Frequenta brand, which has now been dropped.

Seen a couple of them in service this morning, 1960 on 166 and 1955 on 189.
Still lots of Spectras around in Leeds this morning. I wonder When can we expect green hybrids on some Leeds routes. They are notably absent from the streets of Leeds city centre this morning - unlike Liverpool! No doubt there will be some driver familiarisation required for the Wakey depot staff? Also they'll probably want to remove the former route brandings before putting in service. Not sure how big a job that is.
I remember that the Darwens disappeared from Leeds City Centre for a few days in 2015 before appearing on Belle Isle routes, following arrival of Dewsbury's Enviro 400s for 202/3. I understand they'd made odd outings on 205, 281/2 in the intermediate period.

I thought Sapphire was dead? So why do these new vehicles say sapphire on them? And are they making be 189 every 10mins to Leeds?

I thought Sapphire was dead? So why do these new vehicles say sapphire on them? And are they making be 189 every 10mins to Leeds? Sapphire is a preserved brand. 189 is every 10 mins between Wakefield and Castleford. Every 30 mins between Wakefield and Leeds. Look at the 130, only hourly between Macc and Manchester but half hourly between Macc and Wilmslow. I. E, they don't need to be every 10 mins to be Sapphire. Hi Frequency is not always required but high quality may be.

Not known when these will start entering service at BI Penfold

I don't find the new Sapphire livery very nice and worse than the current one. The two shades of blue are too far apart to work well together.
The route branding just slapped on the side in a square looks like something and independent would cobble together.
Also Arriva North East are currently in the process of repainting some buses into the current MAX livery, so it seems some local operators are still carrying on regardless with the old liveries.

Unless they just apply "Cross River" branding like in Liverpool, considering 444/6,117 & 481 all cross the Aire! Might be confusing as to which river. They all cross the Calder on way out of depot too! Daft suggestion.

Well my mum had an awkward experience with the new buses. Waiting on York Road, waiting for the 163/166 buses to Garforth. She was left behind at the stop because a 56 and 40 turned up with the 163 right behind. The 163 left her at the stop and overtook both the 56 and the 40 at York Road.
She had to wait another 15 minutes and board the 403 instead.

The new Sapphire branding is certainly very different. Although, the buses weren't obviously Arriva in the old. This is a bit more bold and direct. Both 110 and 163/6 go near my gaff so I have old and new sparkles. Having seen a plain blue Enviro 400 MMC it's clear that everything on the 189 is stuck on vinyls. I'm wondering if the Sapphires are base pale blue with the front vinyled dark blue, or if that front bit is painted.

Notice that the seats on 189 vehicles carry the MAX branding, despite no official Max branding outside.
Also noticed lack of charging sockets on side bus walls in front of front upstairs seats, unlike the Stagecoach examples.
Nice clean airy interior.
