The hope is to get 2 170s from Scotrail in the next couple of weeks. 1 will do driver training between Leeds and Nottingham the other will hopefully be parked in York platform 2 for static training along with a 156 for conductors to resign them. The cascade of trains from both GWR and SR should pick up pace soon the only spanner in the plan is the delay on the Bolton electrification so don’t know what the plan is there. As for the Huddersfield to Wakefield link it is still a very popular link at the moment but the journey planners will just send people to Leeds to connect with London and other long distance trains adding 30-60 mins on journey times. The focus seems to be getting the Knottingley to Wakefield line a through route to Leeds rather than maintaining the Huddersfield to Westgate link Interesting that 156s are returning to Yorkshire, any ideas which routes they may work? Regarding the Huddersfield-Wakefield link, for Huddersfield passengers would it not be easier to travel via Manchester, as London services are every 20 minutes? 156s are rumoured for Leeds to Sheffield services as well as others I’d guess. As for the Wakefield service I’m sure if your travelling to Wakefield I’m sure Kirkgate will do for most people especially if the free city bus continues the only people affected are the people with longer distance connections who will be made to go either via Leeds or Manchester. I can’t see many people been financially penalised by having to buy the via Leeds fare

It will just mean Huddersfield to London/Birmingham journeys take longer for people forced to go via Leeds. Maybe GC might benefit from passengers choosing to change at Mirfield instead if the connection is a feasible one?

Just having another peek at the new times (subject to change). Most hours there will be 2 trains an hour between Castleford and Wakefield Kirkgate. 5 minutes apart.

Thanks both for posting those. Times wouldn’t benefit me as they are to be honest. Continue traveling from Garforth.

150122 spotted in Manchester Piccadilly today. Looked like an ex GWR 150.

Interesting comments from the Northern Customer Experience manager in Rail Magazine suggesting they may have to ditch Sprinters sooner than they thought as "customer perceptions" will go up when the new trains arrive.

They are chronically short of stock as it is, so hope they don't withdraw them sooner. Anything is better than nothing!

This is a given, but funding being available to replace the 150s isn't a given. There is only so much you can do with a 150, they will still have those grotty metal framed windows and all the dated interior panelling etc.

The new timetables (valid from 20/21 May 2018) will be finalized on 27 April. This is a change from the proposed date of 24 February, due to various circumstances.

It’s a shame the Manchester Airport services from May onwards don’t stop at Deansgate. That would be a good Metrolink interchange.

I know, I just copied your comment. The current timetable has the Leeds - Manchester Oxford Road trains calling at Deans gate as they are classed as local trains, a bit like the Low Moor stop on the short workings.

There's 8 158s to come from Scotrail. 158870 has also arrived and is being used to train Barrow based crew as the 158s will be working Barrow-Manchester Airport services from May. The 170s will be due any time but again will require crew and maintenance training so would think it could be May until they enter service

The first 170 was due to come a couple of days ago but it snowed so it’s arrival is a little delayed

Depends how good the refurbishment is of the sprinters Well the ones I’ve seen are hardly stunning poor finish and those useless display screens that fail to display anything of any use on them, the only thing ScotFail actually got right was the train refurbishments they were doing though I don’t suppose we will see if those 158’s moving south to us somehow

The first 158 (158845) is currently at Crewe having the next stage of the refurb including new seats and complete strip out inside and hopefully will have a fully functioning PIS system
