From Early January a few changes are occurring to the use of FTR's. On Saturdays it is intended that no FTR's will be on the road in a bid to improve reliability and reduce costs. For the remainder of operation, mainly Monday - Friday daytime, if an FTR is taken in the depot then a decker shall be substituted, even if an FTR is spare.
At 9 years old, they are showing their age these changes are intended to improve reliability by allowing more maintence time. These changes are not permanent and the current plans are to reverse these changes when more satisfactory reliability is reached.

I'm sure I will be corrected here but FTR complete with driver and host is booked off, replaced by a decker. Will the decker be one person operated or will it be driver and host? Dependant on the answer couldn't that lead to some interesting options for why the FTR could be booked off.........................................

An interesting question and one that is a real talking at the moment in Bramley. I believe that dependent on Host availibility the decision is situation dependent. For example, spare hosts will be deployed on deckers but if there is a lack of hosts than deckers will be one- man operated.

Just be done with it and get rid of the costly pieces of cr*p. Spending money keeping them on the road is throwing good money after bad. They shouldn't have wasted money doing them up for the 72.

Lower PVRs on Saturdays?
I'm guessing the streetcar vehicles haven't been depreciated yet, as they were so expensive I'm guessing they might be expecting 15 years out of them?

Correct about lower PVR for Bramley on Saturdays due to lower frequencies than during the week. Also correct about the FTR's book value, far too high to scrap. The change of use is intended to improve reliability among the fleet.

The Hess Chassis versions of Wright Streetcar, I had seen a few on the Las Vegas documentary. I think Trevor McDonald should have boarded one for show

I believe the plan is to have all the FTRs withdrawn by April 2016.

Seems a criminal waste of money after all the work refurbishing them. Route 1 between City Square and Holt Park would be perfect for these buses with a host to deal with all the students.

I agree re the money spent on all the refurbishing could be seen as wasted or was it the final attempt with these. However, if First have reach that point where it is now costing them more to keep them on the road that it would if they were to bite the bullet and say enough is enough.

Time for the blue slugs to go in my view. They were always a costly affectation that never really caught on. Will there be Streetdecks or MMCs? Or just displaced B9s?

They are used in Nantes on route 4 a pseudo tram route and do quite well on dedicated bus lanes not guided that go straight over roundabouts. In wy the dwell time at stops is far too long partly because passengers are not allowed to board at any door.

So. Will the hosts be losing there jobs? Not answered I notice.... No plans to withdraw the FTR's by April, all are being MOT'd and long term plans are in place for them. When finally withdrawn, the hosts will be offered alternative employment within the company.

True but this should be done on site and there were sharp edges clearly visible in the condition is was being moved on the public highway.
