104 (along with 102/3/6-9) originally ordered for Selby for a CATS service, then diverted to Heckmondwike to create CATS X33 Bradford-Sheffield til they were replaced by Spectra's 718-23. But 109 wasn't CATS branded and initially tended to be used on the 259 Dewsbury Bradford service Easiest route to get it back in, if it was needed to cover a run. Lol

Ex Arriva Yorkshire 659 (W659 CWX) seen on 711 today. I wonder how many more of the Ex Arriva B7's either ALX400 or President will see more service with Yorkshire Tiger?

Why were they unpopular and with whom - drivers or passengers, or both? As a passenger I thought they were fine.

I'm almost 100% sure they were ordered for a Wakefield to York service which never happened, so certain am I that I'm sure I saw York on the side branding of the bus. Obviously with the service never materialising they went on the X33

Obviously with the service never materialising they went on the X33 Yeah that's what I recall now. It was supposed to be linking 'shopping centres' of Yorkshire and believe that Castleford (Freeport as was before its name change), York (MacArthur Glen) and Selby (??) were prominent towns featured on the side of the bus. There was actually a picture on Fotopics (remember them ?) that showed them on the side of one bus that was branded before the 12th hour decision was taken to rebrand the X33's I could well be wrong on a lot of this but it is a good few years ago ! IIRC the passenger loadings on the X33's required the use of Deckers at certain times and the Volvos fell far short of the expectations !. I believe they were also rather slow and sluggish on the motorway due to the gearbox configuration ! Penfold

Penfold On Saturdays, the 1000 out of Bradford to Sheffield, had a dupe running just in front as far as Wakefield, which then rang back at 1110 as far as Heckmondwike again as a dupe. Originally, it was any decker available, then Presidents 687/688 were chosen due to them, not having any branding for the 268, these would then do the entire route, instead of just a dupe. One, if not both, had a mobile phone wired in.

Penfold, I think you're right about the out of town shopping centre bits. I always thought it was to go through Leeds on its way to York but that's my hazy memory so I don't think I'd be right there. I do remember fotopic, there were some real gems on there. Pretty sure I remember the picture you speak of too!

One also worked an early 126/7 into Wakefield followed by a 443/4/5/6 from Wakefield to Barnsley before picking up the first X33 working from Barnsley. Not sure if this was worked by the Volvos but was during the early days of the Spectras

On Saturdays, the Spectras ran dead to do first one to Bradford, and also if the service terminated there they ran dead back
