Having done First's fleet I have got stuck into Stagecoach.
DOUBLE DECK
< 400 Volvo Olympians
17 Leyland Olympian tri-axles (others are open toppers or preserved, these 17 are based in Ayrshire for schools only.
9 Dennis Arrow - ex First
The decision to keep the Dennis Arrows is a surprise but I expect these could be replaced at the end of the school year by which time they will be too old for Greater Manchester contracts.
Again as with Arriva and First the Volvo Olympian fleet is liable to take a huge hit this year. I am unsure about the tri-axle Leyland Olympians used for schools but their replacements wont have the same seating capacity.
SINGLE DECK
135 Volvo B10M
15 Dennis Darts-
5 Dennis Javelin- with Highlands
25 Mercedes Benz midibuses
The standard Stagecoach single deck type of the 1990s slowly withers away and will continue to do so. I expect some will see in 2014. 20392 is now officially preserved by Stagecoach, as it was the last B10M to enter service.
The Dennis Darts are an interesting case as some APPEAR to have been reinstated possibly due to the need for Stagecoach to replace ageing fleets it has taken over. The fleet list I obtained the info from says "Depot" or "In Service" . Only seven are" in service", mainly in Aldershot, Basingstoke. I think these are stays of execution. Two other Darts are "preserved".
Five ex Rapsons Dennis Javelin buses still exist in the Highlands, and 25 Mercedes minibuses with steps are still creaking around.
Stagecoach still has some way to go regarding double deck replacement. The only certainty is that more Volvo Olympians and B10Ms will vanish, but not all. this year.
