I do hope you're right, and the 184 does continue fully end to end. However based on my own observations (I use it from Linthwaite to Oldham, most thursday afternoons), Most passengers get off at Slowit or Marsden, then the bus is virtually empty over Standedge and only starts filling again at Uppermill. There's probably been a few Enviro's on this service now. 33703 was on it all day last friday. Early Morning trips from huddersfield can be busy right through to manchester on weekdays, along with the last 2 trips on an evening

I was on it today 16.40 out of Diggle-only abt 8 or 10 on. It is a good bus for walkers and should be marketed as such

Remember being on the old 365 years ago (about 2002) one weekday at about half 5 from Oldham when it went along the A62 instead of Uppermill (remember seeing a sign at a junction in the middle of nowhere pointing towards Denshaw), I was the only person on downstairs with only a couple upstairs from Oldham. It soon shows how much things change in 10 years I've been on a few late afternoon journeys in recent years that seem popular enough to be commercially viable(just), and they've even got an official stop on the Pennine way presumably because so many people have stopped the bus there. This is a route what's been around a long while, it's useful for Huddersfield/Colne Valley residents who see a need or desire to access Greater Manchester around Oldham/Saddleworth (with a few even using it for Manchester), and is well known. It's safe to say they'd be an outcry if it were axed, especally from Slathwaitr/Marsden residents who I feel are the busiest users of the Yorkshire to GM section. I can't see it going away.

First's proposed changes have been listed in the Forthcoming Changes to the Bus Network documents for the TfGM Committee meeting that'll take place next Friday. Confirmation of the 18 extended to Manchester Royal Infirmary via Piccadilly and Manchester University and 180/184 timetable changes with 180 reduced to hourly and 184 reduced to 3 buses between Uppermill and Manchester and the buses to/from Diggle terminating at Dobcross. Extra 184s between Grotton and Manchester. 415 reduced to every 20 mins between Middleton and Oldham with east-Oldham section of route replaced by 350, which will be re-routed via Greenacres and 81A, which will be extended from Waterhead to Holts via Lees (with journeys towards Manchester also numbered 81A instead of 81). www.transportforgreatermanchestercommittee.gov.uk/download/4444/item_07_forthcoming_changes_to_the_bus_network

The 184 Piccadilly-Huddersfield is now seeing regular workings on a daily basis from the new E400's. The previous branded B9TL's incumbent on this route, Oldhams 373xx are or have been transferred to Pioneer apparently.

Yep, probably about 90% of buses on average on the 180/184 are Enviros with a couple of B9TLs to fill up the allocations. The former 180/184 branded B9s (37381-37388) are now in Tameside on use for the 348 and 350, which have been in service since Monday, although it has been reported that they won't be used on Sunday (and possibly evenings too), as they interwork with other services, so Solos will be used instead. But, I'm sure the B9s will be welcomed in Tameside, as they're now the most modern vehicles in use on First services in the area (except for Oldham-depot Enviros on the 409) with 54-plate Solos the second most modern.

Now Pioneer have some B9TL's, does this mean the Dennis/ELC there are on a one way trip to Barnsley?.

It is an excellent idea to have leather-seated buses on long route 184, so these E400s are most welcome. I have yet to decide whether to ride one in conjunction with Metrolink once it extends to Rochdale, or en route to Leeds to ride other First buses, especially a leather-seated Volvo B9TL!

Given all the new Enviros at Oldham, was a little surprised to see a 12-plate B9TL on the 184 to Huddersfield this morning (0730). 36280 is the bus in question

Thanks for the response. I didn't know Greater Manchester were having any Gemini's. I thought (wrongly) that Leeds were copping the 100 ex-olympic Gem's and Manchester the 96 ex-olympic Enviro's. Just out of interest, How many new Gem's and Enviro's were actually bought new for the olympic's. If there is more than the 196 accounted for here, Then what other area's have received any?. Thanks.

100 of each type were purchased for the Olympics. Some have gone back to the West country, for the Park & Ride they were operating before the Olympics.

Do Manchester still have any step entrance Darts ? No, I believe the last ones were withdrawn earlier last year. they were replaced by newer LF ones brought in from other Manchester depots. The last ones in service were (I think) based at Pioneer and usually on the Ashton/Hey Farm/Oldham batch of services. The R***SBA batch replaced these. And these too are about to be replaced by a number of B9TL's transferred from Oldham.

Just a couple of little questions. When the recent round of transfers/cascades have taken place, Will the Dukinfield based buses(In new livery) have "Pioneer" on the sides, or has the name faded into history?. Secondly, Although the future of Chester&Wirral is very much in doubt i was wondering, should any repaints take place there, Will they gain "Greater Manchester" branding?. I ask because i had a day out in Chester on wednesday (Days out/trips thread). And i noticed all First buses there have Manchester Wallshaw St Oldham legals.

from what i have heard all the 07 B9s at Bury are to move to Pioneer for service changes time Are these being replaced at Bury by newer B9's ex Oldham? Some Oldham B9s have appeared at Bury and Manchester depots recently. Some Citaros have moved back to Oldham at around the same time and now in service in Oldham. Spotted one on the 181 this morning. The Pioneer name is used for Tameside services as a few years ago, there wasn't enough room on the First Manchester licence for them, so they moved the Tameside services onto a new separate licence. First Manchester Ltd is the legal company name for First Greater Manchester (formerly First Manchester) and First Chester & The Wirral. So, the two companies, First GM and First C&W are under one company name. If they ever re-paint buses in Chester & The Wirral, it'll have the Chester or Wirral names on the sides rather than Greater Manchester.
