Not sure I like the tone of some of these opponents of free Town Centre buses. I can't speak for Wakefield, but the Huddersfield one is genuinely needed and largely used by old people who would otherwise have to lug their shopping from the shops, which are all at the bottom end of town, to the bus station, which is at the top. I was also under the impression that it was principally funded by Kirklees MC, not Metro, and that the other services were likewise funded by local councils (hence none in Halifax)

In thae case of the Free buses, i also agree they shouldn't be free and the funding could be better used elsewhere.
Also, Resolution, in virtually all cases, old people would be able to use their free concession passes on other services. In most cases, there are plenty of other services on the same or nearby roads that the free buses use.

The Wakefield Free CITY Bus is the only service providing a direct link between the two railway station forecourts. The only other options go via Wakefield Bus Station and in the case of the 102 requires major roads to be crossed.

I can't see many people needing to travel from Kirkgate station to Westgate, In terms of linking the 2 major poins on the Hallam and Wakefield lines, Barnsley to Doncaster can be reached without the need to go via Wakey. You might get the odd few people each week say needing to travel between Outwood and Woodlesford, or Fitswilliam and Castleford but I'm sure many of those won't be carrying heavy luggage and could easily walk the half mile between stations. Besides, being a bit cheeky here, their's a train at least hourly between the 2 stations!

It'll obviously be the ALX300s they replace. They aren't going to replace MPDs with full sized buses! As the ALX300s are due to be replaced by Pulsar 2s, it makes me wonder what the recent Gemini integrals replaced, particularly if the pre-low-floor Spectras are still in Yorkshire?

The Gemini Integrals replaced the Darts 170-199 plus other odd DAF's and some ALX300's hence the massive number of Garage re-allocations In that case, several routes beyond just the 126 and 127 will have been upgraded to larger buses. I gathered the Ikarus single-deckers had been withdrawn which is good news. In 2009 I deliberately rode route 278 on a Bank Holiday in order to avoid one on a Saturday! Thanks for the update. I am seriously considering getting an Arriva-only ticket to maximise my Arriva buses on my next visit! (The suspension of First route 95 over the Easter Holidays means I can do north Leeds areas later in the year instead).

Various services in Heckmondwike have gone from single deck to double deck The Ikarus are still in use at the moment.

I knew that at least some Olympuses off route 110 had gone to Dewsbury. I have seen a pic of one on route 268 and read, I think here, that they are now the scheduled type on routes 202 and 203. I have been hoping to ride route 128 as I feel it would be quite a scenic route. So maybe it now runs Eclipses instead of Darts? I have been meaning to ride a refurbished MPD!

No 11 was out on the 128 today despite it meant to be withdrawn now Looking at its tax disc on Sunday I noticed it ran out in August! Isn't that when the Pulsars arrive? Perhaps the Ikarus bodied DAFs will be in service until then!

R10 WAL still out and about seen on 128 and 205 this morning Oh dear! I am keen to ride route 128 next week but not if I have to ride an Ikarus. I may do some other ops' buses in north Leeds and find time to ride route 174 for a refurbished MPD from Belle Isle. Other buses such as Gemini integrals on route 110 still interest me. I have heard a rumour that the Geminis on route 110 have high-back seating, unlike the ones at Dewsbury and Heckmondwike. Not sure how true this is but I shall see for myself next week!

The seats one the leather clad ones 1508-1524 are not larger than the than those on the rest of the Geminis just leather covered all the way to top of the seat. The rest of the batch have an built in hand grab around the top of the seat.

I shall see how the day pans out or whether I postpone an "ordinary" one until Newcastle in July for example.

There was one (or two) ALX300s left when I last noticed a few weeks ago, so it's probably that.
