Tony Salmon, Arriva Yorkshire driver has kindly informed me of the fleet details of the new double deckers. These are Darwen Olympus on Volvo B9TL. The fleet details are as follows: 1800 YJ57 BEO 1801 YJ57 BEU 1801 YJ57 BEU 1803 YJ57 BFO 1804 YJ57 BFP 1805 YJ57 BFU 1806 YJ57 BFV 1807 YJ57 BFX 1808 YJ57 BFY 1809 YJ57 BFZ 1810 YJ57 BGE 1811 YJ57 BGF 1812 YJ57 BGK 1813 YJ57 BPV 1814 YJ57 BPX 1815 YJ57 BPY
Also, before anybody asks who Darwen is, they took over East Lancs and have renamed the business.

Yes, Optare Spectras 700-717 going to Heckmondwike. Hopefully that means we can wave goodby to those awful Dennis Arrows!

I don't mind the Arrows so much, sure they're a bit drab looking but they do the job!
The worst buses Arriva have are the DAF ALX300s. Top speed of 24mph and they go 0-24 in about 1 minute 43 seconds. They are so cringingly slow! 2nd worst are probably the Lances but only because their seats are so unbelievably hard and uncomfortable especially on long journeys.

ALX300 DAFs I think have been nick named Snails. They also creek a lot when going over potholes.
Yes, the Strider seats are uncomfortable, but I find the ones on First's Wright Axcess Flolines awful as you can't exactly sit on them, you have to slouch on them.

First Halifax's Dennis Dart ALX200s are the most horrible, with tiny legroom at the back. Also the low floor Stagecoach DAFs at huddersfield have the same problem. The seats have decreasing legroom the further back you go.
Over to the scannia's, they indeed are awful. The non-corporate ones at Huddersfield (now at leeds are they?) were like that as well.

Just thought I'd let you know that the launch is on the 24th November at Belle Isle Depot, Wakefield. On this day, they are calling themselves awwiva, because Jonathan Ross will host his BBC Radio 2 show from the depot itself.

Two of these have now arrived. They won't enter service yet as AdBlue tanks have yet to be installed at Belle Isle Depot.

I can't believe it! Arriva have set up online publicity to tie in with this investment, and its good too! If only their main bus website was of this standard.

If you have noticed on the 110 site, they call these new buses "the ultimate commuter experience". It's not as great as the 36 let say. But for Arriva it's ultimate having leather seats and a full rear destination!

Are the rest of the batch to be named or is it just this first vehicle to tie in with the publicity. Also how long before the AdBlue gets installed; surely this should be a priority!

saw one of the new B9TLs heading down Marsh Way in Wakefield the other day in Connecting Wakefield and Leeds route branding. It was running private towards Belle Isle depot.

I'm new on here so just looking at previous postings. Just a few things to note: I appear to be the only one who finds the seats on the Alexander Striders comfortable though I do talk of the B10B Striders and not the Lance. They're so comfy the warmth and motion of the bus along with the seats have meant I've really become relaxed and could've nodded off, especially on a long-ish journey from Leeds to Darrington. I've been after some Dennis Arrow's for a while now. Since I understood the Arrows would be going as soon as the new B9TL's arrive, I've been trying to get snaps of them but having an hour in Cleckheaton on Saturday none of them turned up. I only saw one of them inside Heckmondwike depot and it was N802 TPK sandwiched in between a Lance and Volvo Olympian. I took a quick photo from the car which shows the Lance having some serious work carried out - or being stripped of useful parts. arrivayorkshire.fotopic.net/p47364659.html The new B9's look very attractive though I can't help but wonder how long will it take before they're put on a route other than the 110 - say, someone manages to send one up Eastmoor and they come back without much leather left on the seats! Interesting times ahead! Adam

Can't argue with that, the B10B Striders are still a great bus to travel on even though most are nearly 14 years old. hope they stay on the roads for a while yet.

Certainly impressive. Would have been improved with bonded glazing I think, also the route branding in black doesn't quite stand out as much as it perhaps should.

Looks good I saw this as well parked up in Wakefield bus station, agree about the route branding as well it doesn't stand out as much as the other "Connecting" colours, Red, Blue and Green.
